Understanding runic hammers...

Am I understanding blacksmithing correctly here?

Let's say for instance, I am a Legendary Blacksmith with GM Arms Lore.

I make a set of Ringmail armor. The "base" resists for it are: 3 3 1 5 3. (based on http://www.uoguide.com/Armor). I use valorite ore to make the Ringmail, so the following points are added to my resists: 4 0 3 3 3, for a total piece showing resists of 7 3 4 8 6.

Now, since I'm legendary, with GM arms lore. Let's assume I made it exceptionally. 20 additional resist points get spread amongst those numbers, correct?

I think I've figured it out correctly this far. But, now, lets say I use a Valorite Hammer on that armor piece.

A valorite runic hammer has 5 minimal/maximum Properties, 85% minimum intensity, and 100% maximum intensity. Only thing is... I'm not sure I know what that all means. LOL. Can using a valorite runic hammer also increase resistances? If so, to what degree?

It'd be nice if someone could provide to samples or examples of what using a valorite runic hammer MIGHT do in my example with the RingMail piece.

Sorry for the noob questions.

Lets say for instance, all the elemental resists (phy, fire, energy etc.) have a max of 25 on each piece of armor. So in theory, if you are using a valorite hammer it would yield the minimum and maximum percentage to a certain resist (or multiple resists if the RNG hit just right). So it is possible all be it highly unlikely that you could craft an armor piece with a valorite hammer and have all 5 of the runic bonuses go towards resist numbers. But if it did happen, you would have a piece of armor with 85%-100% max resist on each different resist type. Understand? It's more likely to happen that you will craft something that is mage armor or have physical reflect or something like that along with maybe a resist bump.

If you need a picture i have some examples from an aggy hammer that i burned on ringmail armor arm pieces.

Okay... so of the 5 runic bonuses, it's possible that 3 might go to resists and maybe 1 to luck and the 1 to Reflect Physical Damage? (I'm just using that as an example).

PS - RNG stands for... ?

Also... If you have an Ancient Hammer +30, and your Blacksmithing skill is , for example, 100.0. Is it capped at 120 then? Or, for example, if you're legendary skill, is there ANY reason to use an ancient hammer?

RNG stands for the dreaded Random Number Generator. You are correct as far as the runic bonuses go. More often than not you will get runic bonuses in something other than the resists. Don't know why this is just blame it on the RNG!!! And i would definitely recommend usin an ancient smith hammer even when you reach 120 smithy. The ASH stacks on top of your skill, so especially if you need to enhance something that is already good (like a relic type piece of armor) i would definitely use at least a +30 ASH if not a +60 for maximum chance to not break the piece.

Having GM Arms Lore doesn't add 20 additional resists points. It adds 5 points randomly, 8 points on Siege and Mugen shards.

A Valorite runic hammer would give you five rolls to determine which property will be added then each roll is rolled again to determine the intensity. You could roll SSI, HCI, DCI, etc and even resists. There are some different properties for armor or weapons. It is possible for all five rolls for example on an armor piece to roll resists all five rolls. The intensity would be rolled and applies and you'd likely have a very high resist piece.

Normal tools crafting exceptional add 15 base Additional resists, scattered randomly, plus the Arms Lore bonus (up to +5 on most shards, +8 on Siege)

Runic Tools crafting exceptional only adds SIX Additional resists, plus the Arms Lore bonus.
