I've had an account for almost 17 years from October 1997. Every year or so I log in and try to get anything going with a group. Every time I've failed miserably. Most of the time, I just take a look at my house and then log out for weeks at a time. I only really have the client installed for a few months a year.
They key to any MMO is the guilds. You remove the guilds, the social structure of the game and you have nothing.
What I see happening is you have a bunch of tiny groups of players in little guilds. And, they aren't interested in letting anyone else join their guild. Frankly, there is no really incentive for them to have anyone to join their guilds.
And, for that reason UO will continue to fail. I really like the game play and I even like the graphics. I like the housing. There's been massive numbers of great changes to the game. But for me, the game is NOT A MMO. I feel sad for the current state of the game. The players who seem to want the game to grow are the same people who simply DO NOT INCLUDE OTHERS WITH THEIR GROUPS.
