UI changing at each login...

Howdy folks, I'm returning after be away for many, many years. I'm using the EC, log in, change the things into a position I'm comfortable with, and after playing, logging off. I log back in a few hours later, and everything is in a different location. The music I turned off, is back on again. It's not limited to those few things.

So what am I doing wrong, what am I forgetting?

Is your virus program allowing changes. You are doing nothing wrong.

I always log out and not use the X.

Thanks guys, for whatever reason this time SOME of the UI remained the same. Yeah, I'm watching those locked and unlocked places. Stuff under options, like turning off the music is resetting and anything I put on the action bars all goes away at each logoff, but until I get this figured out, can't see myself spending the time to get it setup my way.

I have to be in a safe place to log out and have my UI save?? I hope I'm misunderstanding that.

I played with Pinco's yesterday, and I just got error after error. I remember that UI from back in the day. After messing with it for awhile, trying to do the stuff it said to alter, I gave up. I removed all of it, did a reset of the comp, no real changes except as noted above...grrrrrr.

Ya if you were to have crashed, the same thing happens, So if you make a bunch of changes, log off correctly to save the changes.

Are you using Windows? Are you able to access C:\Users\[Your Windows Account Name]\Documents\EA Games\Ultima Online Stygian Abyss\User Data

Is this happening across characters or UO or even Windows users?

You need to run the EC as administrator. If you still have issues make sure Microsoft OneDrive is either disabled or you are keeping a local copy of the EA Games folder on your computer. By default OneDrive sync's your Documents folder up to the cloud which contains the EA Games folder where all your profiles are located. The client can't handle loading them from a cloud drive.

That is what is in 'my docs', but it's empty, nothing in any of the folders except the next folder in the path. I do not use the cloud at all.

Seems to be happening to all 7 toons on baja and the 3 on atlantic.
I always open the menu and close with it, I have not always been in a safe spot, but since it was brought to my attention, I'm not logging off at an inn.

Just logged in, using 'run as admin', made up a quick macro, moved a few items on screen, made sure everything was 'locked' down, turned off music, logged off properly, at an inn.

Logged back in 10 minutes later, half the locked widgets were now unlocked and had moved. Music was active, macros were gone.

Frustrating as hell.

What OS are you using? OneDrive is turned on by default in Windows 11 and often can be on in Windows 10. And most people don't even realize it's enabled. Have you verified you do not see the OneDrive icon in your lower right corner system tray? And when you messed around with Pinco's you said you reset the computer. What exactly did you do? You have to delete the EA Games folder in Documents along with uninstalling the client and manually deleting the folders. Uninstalling often does not get rid of some config related files.

Windows 11
No One Drive icons (no cloud icons from any other service either), and I'm not logged into a microsoft acct (thats one of the reasons it's not used, truly dislike One Drive).

Used the "System Recovery", "Fix problems using Windows Update" preserve files. This was after I went thru and uninstalled anything that had to do with UO, and yeah, I then went back and did some manual removal as well.

What is it that actually would be added to the Ultima Online Stygian Abyss file?

@Mac I don't use EC but I have seen on the forums that if you used pincos, you can't just not use it. You have to re install UO.

I did reinstall. I removed anything and everything that had to do with UO, to include Pinco's. then used the repair tool I spoke about above, then reinstalled UO. Did it work....I say Nay Nay, and then I looked for an all you can eat buffet (the words of John Pinette).

Turn off your virus program. Only open UO and change 1 or two things. Log out and see if it saves. That would rule out the virus program.

Just logging out anywhere saves it.

It's very important that you don't post your real folder names from this point. They are sensitive information.

Yes, that is where the client looks for your game settings. From that folder you should see your UO account name. In that folder you should see the shards you have characters on. And in those shard folders you should see character documents. Those character documents can be opened by right clicking and "Open With" and choosing something like Notepad. You don't have to do that. It's just an FYI. Those are the files that save your UI settings and Macros.

If you're not seeing files in your User Data folder it's because you don't have access. When you open UO next time, right click the icon and choose "Run as Administrator". Change a setting in the game and then log out using the exit command in the game from the UI menu. Don't just close the game with the X.
Then log back in as Administrator again. Verify if your setting stayed.

If not, then I suspect a Antivirus is preventing the editing of files. If you have an antivirus, let me know. There's usually steps you can take to mark an application as safe.

That's the exact same spot. If you were to click on the address bar it would show you the path C:\Users\Documents\ before it. Windows now masks that part with "This PC"

C:\Users\#Your Windows Login# is the exact same as "This PC".

OP probably has an antivirus blocking the creation of files by this application. That's my next best guess.

I'm genuinely curious what it turns out to be if you have verified it's not a MS OneDrive issue. I've had about 11 people recently with Windows 11 having this exact same issue and it turned out to be OneDrive in every case. On an off chance is your local Windows account a limited user and not an administrator?

I don't use one drive, but I have heard Windows 11 tries to make people use it.

If one drive is on, does it want to save game changes to one drive instead of the correct hard drive spot?

Howdy folks.....Had a thread open over in UO Forums and TimSt there had a suggestion. He said to go to Ransomeware to allow access, below is my thanks to him.

@TimSt, Thank you, that did the trick. Went to Settings, did a search for Ransomware, opened the Allow an app through controlled folder access, and there we have it. Allowed client.exe and UOSA.exe.

Yea, don't turn off Windows Defender. That one is fine. Windows Defender is actually amazing.
