Many ppl here are often critical of rares collectors, the amount of gold rares sale for, the fact that people PAY for pixels etc etc etc.

This isn't for you.

For anyone interested in it, I have spent years collecting UO items for my museum and have decided to retire. The first auction ends tonight and I thought some of you might enjoy watching it go down.

This thread will be HEAVILY moderated: please don't troll it.

While I have never really understood the rares community, I have always been fascinated with that particular 'end game'. (*disclaimer* knows there is no real end game)

I have a new heartfelt respect for that community. Some of those folks came through strong for me recently. Just saying.

I have a new heartfelt respect for that community. Some of those folks came through strong for me recently. Just saying.

I've always been fascinated by it too. UO, being a "worldly" game, mimics the interests of real life in this. I mean, the movie "National Treasure" plays into this. It's just fun to know that there are treasures out there in Sosaria that are vast and worth so much. Even though I've never gotten into it due to the costs (game gold and real money), this is one of the key things I've always loved about the world of UO.

Alas, I never "get the good stuff" at events, nor did I know what was going on in rares in the early days. And now, I fear that UO will be going down a road towards other play style even more, so that I may not be here for long.

But for maybe the last time, I'll post my research on what I think would have been the ultimate item to get hands on in UO. And I do this with some sadness.

While I guess those are uncommon, I would not consider them rares.

Server birth rares ? Yes. This stuff? Meh..

Seems most of those items are from the past few years at the oldest.

Server birth rares ? Yes. This stuff? Meh..

Seems most of those items are from the past few years at the oldest.

Considering that the vast majority of server births, the desirable ones anyway, were duped, these "recent" EM items ARE the new rares of this game.

You want scaffolding? Sure, go look at hump-teen websites that sale them. You want any of the items that are in my auction, some of which are "1 of 1"?
Then you need to find a player that owns them. NO other way to obtain.

The people that collect and consider "server births" as the only true rares, well, I do respect their likes/dislikes, but to dismiss the newer EM items as merely "uncommon" is ridiculous.

The new EM items are not rares. Only server births are true rares !! Look at all the em stuff, its just renamed / hued items. They can make up any stupid name and you guys will buy it. I hate how people think EM items are the only thing of value because you can get an exact number count. whoopty dooo !! My sword i crafted is 1 of 1 , its worth 100 mil. Oh wait, i can make flamestrikes come out my ass, tack on another 300 mil to the value !!

How an item made yesterday is worth more than an item over 12 yrs old is beyond me. Then you talk about duping? I hate to tell you but em items are duped and more are duped monthly. Dupe dupe dupe dupe dupe lol.

Point taken. I guess my problem is I associate rares with old.

No one duped my server births, thats for sure.
