I searched this subject and found no help. I have UO run off of Wine but when I try loading UO Assist or UOAM or UO Cartographer they crash. Some guilds I have played with in the past would insist that they can see my "dot" on screen to know where I and their other members are. Plus UOAM provides good in-game chat.

Anyone know how to correct this? The crashes? Riht now i'm using an old Dell Dimension 2400 with 512mb of RAM. It's my only XP machine and I'm going to see if I can buy a new PC (Windows 8, Dell Inspiron 660s desktop) or stick a new hard drive with Windows 7 installed into my Dell Dimension e520 which is the Ubuntu box for now.

I run classic with wine. I found uoam and uoassist to both be so unstable that I stopped trying.

The UO: Stygian Abyss (Enhanced Client) when installed with Crossover reports as Gold, so it should be doable. The Classic Client has problems though, and will probably never be stable.

Classic is 100% stable for me. Uoam and uoassist are the broken bits... Its annoying, but you learn to live without.

I've never had trouble running UO in Linux tbh. Classic has always been perfect and runs best, Enhanced is as good as it ever was in Windows. I don't use Ubuntu, but I'm mostly on Ubuntu based distros like Mint so you should certainly be able to get UOAM to run. UOA has gone from running perfectly to not at all, I'm not sure if it'll install on this latest version of Ubuntu, I haven't tried installing it on my newest installations. It might be possible to bully it into working, but I adapted to not using assist instead lol.

I'd suggest looking at that page that Petra linked to and double check you've got all the extra fonts and other stuff installed. The WineHQ page for UO might have other suggestions too.

Are you seeing any errors when it crashes?

I dunno, every PC I`ve built in the last 10 years came from TigerDirect. Still running a quad core I put together 5 years ago. I do compare before I buy and very rarely do I find a site with lower pricing than Tiger.
Just been my xperience.

Newegg and Amazon are the most used and have the most reviews, usually, so it's good to do research at both, as well as Tiger Direct thereafter.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/

Tiger Direct tends to have more sales for refurbished items than Newegg does for new items, and I found I ended up buying about 70% of my current computer from Newegg and the rest from Amazon. For example, a coupon provided by Newegg afforded me the cheapest Windows 7 at the time, $85. Back to school savings--online or brick and mortar--are a great time to shop (Aug.-Sept.).

One thing I'd say, though, is do not get the Hover Hound Firefox add-on, as it caused issues or had spyware for me. Hover Hound is supposed to compare Newegg to Amazon. Not worth it. Camel is great for Amazon though, as I suggested the other day.

Oh well. I ordered a Kensington SSD drive which is 60GB (cost sixty dollars) because I thought the cheapest thing to do was get a new hard drive, put XP on it, and just live in the past. I have 33 steam games to look forward to.

I would have gotten a SATA 80 GB or so regular hard drive but none of the stores I checked had any. I'm gonna put in a secondary hard drive eventually but I have lots of files archived in loose hard drives. Next month I"m getting a "BlacX" device which looks like a toaster but serves as a kinda external mounting thing for two hard drives. I had one before but that was stolen as well. Right now (I must be crazy) I have a laptop hard drive in my desktop that is 160 GB. It connected to the wires perfectly. I might sneak that into the blank slot under my DVD-RW drive so I'll have three hard drives in this machine.

Where'd I get a laptop hard drive? It came from my PS3. I took this one out, put in a 250 GB one. The PS3 was also stolen.

EDIT: That wasn't so hard. I had an extra SATA cable in the closet and indeed there was a loose power bracket hanging near the empty slot. So I've got the 80GB in, a 160 GB, and I'm going to use the secondary hard drive space to fit in an internal hard drive I'm gonna archive necessary files from. Pictures, word docs, stuff. I'm getting a lot of mileage from this computer. I was having an insecure phase when I'd say "I can't play Sleeping Dogs on this thing" and consider getting whole new PC or upgrading.

I've had great luck running UO and UOAssist in a Windows 7 VMWare image on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS system. I have a decent performing system so the VM is no sweat. I've gone as far as running CoD: Modern Warfare 2 in my Windows 7 VM but the native graphics support was very glitchy and suffered from low FPS.

XP again. ... I'm glad that I was able to redeem my boxed copy of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition on Steam. Then I searched my email for messages regarding this snafu I had buying Batman: Arkham Asylum & B:AC from Gamefly. (Two years ago they beta'd a computer games download service and they acquired their catalog from buying Direct2Drive.)

Anyway, I already owned these games on OnLive but that doesn't run while I'm downloading. The unlock codes were accepted by Steam & awesomely B:AC was upgraded to GOTY. I might of originally purchased GOTY for B:AA but it wasn't on sale for Arkham City. So anyway, I have to start from scratch as far as game saves are concerned.
