I'm trying to figure out how to price stone items and need some suggestions.
I thought I'd use the following formula:
# of stone required * base price for type of stone * (1 + (1.0 - success rate))
Here's what I thought I'd use for the base price for the various types of stone:
1,000 Plain Stone
1,500 Dull Copper
2,000 Shadow Iron
2,500 Copper
3,000 Bronze
3,500 Gold
4,000 Agapite
4,500 Verite
5,000 Valorite
My carpenter has a talisman with a 23% masonry bonus on it.
For the small vases that take 1 stone each and my carpenter has a 100% success chance, the above formula would price each vase the same as the base prices listed above (e.g., a plain stone vase is 1,000 gp and a valorite vase is 5,000 gp). A large vase that takes 3 stones and she also has a 100% success rate would cost 3,000 gp for a plain one and 15,000 gp for a valorite one. Stone chairs take 4 stones and have a 100% success rate, so they would just cost 4 times the base price. Medium stone tables take 6 stones each and have a 93% success chance, so their price range would be 6,420 gp for plain up to 32,100 for valorite. Large stone tables take 9 stones each and have a 73% success chance, so their price range would be 11,430 for plain up to 57,150 for valorite.
The new gargoyle and gryphon statues take 20 stones apiece and my carpenter has a 69% chance to make them. That means plain ones would cost 26,200 gp (1000 * 20 * 1.31); shadow iron would cost 52,400 gp each (2000 * 20 * 1.31); and valorite would cost 131,000 gp each (5000 * 20 * 1.31).
The large gargoyle beds take 100 stones each and have a 100% success chance (whew!), so they would cost 100k for plain up to 500k for valorite.
Any thoughts on the above formula? I can post more example prices later after I get my spreadsheet done, but wanted to see first if I'm just totally off with the base prices and how to factor in the failure rate.
