I was fixing dinner for my family and was feeding fish at my tower on Napa... normal thing to do right?
I am the first to admit we are a quiet shard and alot of the population are not bank sitters. Not saying we dont have some but less sit there these days then in the past.

So far its normal.. till someone pipes up on chat how the people on this shard are rude and a few other things that are not nice to lable players no matter what they havent done.. This person continues to chat about how he is from Atlantic and how bad off Napa is and that its good that the Dev have it on the short list for removal when they trim down the shards..... Napa and many of the shards populations are trimmed down from what we had over the last few years by a flood of books and people from Atlantic shoving how active and busy their shard is and how dead ours is and is set to be removed from the list any time now....

I am sick to death of this. It's not just Napa who is getting people on them touting Atlantic's great player base...
and how the shard they are visiting is dead and shouldbe first iff the list.... I have heard this on Sonoma Napa Origin Baja and even Oceania ...
Its one thing to drop books and give a glowing report of the pvp pvm Atlantic has but to go out of your way to chat it on the shard and give threats of how the shard is being removed soon from the list is down right MEAN.

Now you all know I play 13 to 16 shards when I do run around.... hey I have friends everywhere.. but to see this in general chat and not just on one shard..... I play Atlantic too and find it active enough... but to have someone/ or group of people try this stunt to pull more there is wrong.

Mesanna I have no idea why this person feels he knows more about the Dev shutting down shards then you... when for a fact you have said quite plainly that no shard will go poof.
This though gives the masses pause to think that maybe this person might be on to info that the rest of us have yet to hear of... this starts fear in players.. you need to put your foot down and stop this in its tracks.

I used to play Atlantic and I have to say that the shard doesn't really impress me. Greater numbers do not equal to superior community. Give me six friends over 600 strangers any day.

It's been known for years Atlantic has the most populated shards so it's nothing new. Many before you have complained about general chat with pvpers trash talk and it still goes on so your issue would be classified as no difference. Just Like EM events nothing changes. Not trying to be mean about it but it's the truth. Players wanted GC so you kind of live with the good and bad of it. This happens on all of Mythic general chats in all their MMO's. They dont police it.

Just ignore the Butter's of MMO's and enjoy the game. If the Butter's of general chat come here on Stratics and see posts like this just gives them more fuel to continue doing it. Ignore ftw

We have a loony who drinks in the same Pub as me and he tells everyone every week the Pub is so quite it will be closed down in a few weeks. He tells us the Pub over the road is so busy that there is no way our pub can survive much longer. He says look out the window and see how much fun they are having over there in the busy pub and how quite it is in our Pub. 3 years on and our Pub is still open and the loony in the corner is still telling us, next week this place will be closed.

The moral of the story is no one listens to the loony in the corner, we hear him, but no one listens.

Eh, don't listen to him, he doesn't know much. If there's any chance at all of shards being shut down and consolidated, it's under heavy lockdown; everything Mesanna has said indicates that it's not on the cards in the foreseeable future. Trolls are always going to pretend to have insider knowledge, because there's always people that believe them and it gets a response.

That said, we get this type of thing on Baja's chat too. It's just how things are. A good rule of thumb is, don't believe anything that anybody says about the future of the game unless they're a dev or you know for sure they've got insider knowledge, because nine times out of ten they're lying.

ETA: Also expecting Mesanna to do anything about this is weird. She has no control, legally, over what people say in chat as long as it doesn't violate TOS, which this doesn't. She's said a few times publically that the shards aren't being shut down, that's all that she can do.

Many years ago, when daemons were actually fairly hard to fight, my friend and I used to quite regularly visit the daemons in Fire level 2 on Europa. A pair of dexxers x healing. One morning someone else turned up and ordered us to leave because he wanted to hunt there. Naturally we refused. For some time he threw at us everything he could lure to our position from the rest of the dungeon level - we were well practiced in x healing. Finally he gave up and stood there railing at us. He admitted to luring on us, then went on to tell us that he had more right to the spawn than we did because it was an American game and he was American. He claimed he was related to one of the GMs and that he had arranged to have us removed from the spot so that he could hunt there.
He is a forerunner of the idiots you are encountering in chat now. He, and they, use lies to try to intimidate. Ignore them, as we ignored him. They are, to use the vernacular, full of it.

Help chat is widely and productively used on Europa - Every day I see new and returning players' helped.
I avoid general chat.

Anyone else remember this thread started back in October 2009 by someone who just popped up out of nowhere after a long break from UO, promoting with all her might the idea of global chat in UO? Darned if we didn't have it shoved down our throats within the next couple of weeks after this person appeared and tried to get everyone on board with the idea. And then this person vanished, with a last post made in December 2009. Where did she go after we got the glorious global chat that she wanted so much?!?

Global chat was widely being asked (nay, begged) for back before I took my break in 2006. (And seriously, holding a grudge from over four years ago...?)

One player in ahct is not hard to ignore try doing it at an event with 100s there bein jerks


Atl is the most populas but I would be hard pressed to say one of the best, I so wish i had the peeps i play with with me on one of the quieter shards but alas I started on ATL and will be here when the shards ALL go poof.

Ive played ATL for 15yrs now and we seem to have one of the largest population of idiots.

Unfortunately with a large population comes a large number of the less desirable

I'd also say we have some of the nicest, kindest, and considerate players around

Holding a grudge? Hardly. When chat was first implemented in mid-December 2009, it was a wreck. It wasn't easy to get out of it (many people had their Classic Client configuration set up to not show the menu bar). You could leave chat, but every time you logged in, you were thrust right back into the General-Trammel channel.

When, in an unrelated thread, you can locate a post from four years ago to cast aspersions at someone unable to defend themselves and gripe about long fixed bugs in the initial implementation... yeah, I'd call that holding a grudge. The bits where you hint at some kind of conspiracy and ignore the (inconvenient for your thesis) fact that the playerbase had long been asking for some kind of general chat just adds weight to that impression.

I made this post to show how some idiots are treating others when they come visit other shards...
When I go to another shard I am polite and helpfull.. you make great friends that way.
To throw out to the airwaves that the Dev are shutting down the shard due to no people at the banks or that no one will trade with them is not only ill mannered but down right rude. Napa like other shards who lost a great deal of players due to numerous reasons still has a working player base.. as do most shards of lower population. We are more active in private persuits in game and do talk in chat when someone is in dire need of assistance. Or if they are just in need of a hello. Most times we dont have time to bank sit.
To rally insults and threats is childish....
What is wrong with some who do this is the insane idea that they are right. No one shard is void of idiots.. we all have our loony bin experts....

To tell folks that their shard is on the chopping block and soon will be no more is horrid, and uncalled for. If you cant come for a visit and be nice, please stay on Atlantic...

Petra it reminds me of a few calls I got as a Counselor ... where a pair had lured countless nastys on a few who happen to be at a prime hunting spot and the newcommer was shall we say full of it. No one area in uo is private, and these days there is no need to fight over a place gee wiz the places unused is emence. If I know you, the pair of you offered to have this person join in and they refused I bet.

To note politness and kindness go hand in hand when you come visit any shard remember the players there dont know you... say hello..... make a friend

Bragging about another shard reminds me of one of Aesop's Fables.

That twit can be welcome anytime to demonstrate how to build a superior community, or better yet, if he's so right, he can simply go back to Atlantic where surely a person of his self-professed talents would be appreciated better.

There have been quite a few rude folks bouncing servers. Most I have seen are due to the Valentines gifts or popping into a server and wondering why bank xyz is so empty.

Having a good community on a shard adds quite a bit of humor to the situations. This is one of the "lighter" ones that happened the other day, luck have it I got a screenshot of it! 25991795 is the player wondering where everyone is. My favorite reply was from 27582247.
