Having just finished watching the 2012 DVD about half an hour ago though, the part about "great matter must rise" makes me think about volcanoes. Big ones. Which makes me think about the new one on the Isle of Fire, the Underworld, the Abyss, Ter Mur, the Void....

Be funny if the volcano created massive lag so we couldn't play for weeks. Oh wait, we already had a storyline like that, it was called Age of Shadows.

As long as we get some "I survived the volcano" T-Shirts, and the EM employs someone named "Joe" to defeat the volcano, etc., etc..

Yes you are able to find all of the books so far in Fel. This last book poses a problem though.

Hmm... very good question. No idea though.

Well I figured if they have it set up on Siege for the players red and blue there they would have it set up for the reds on the all the shards to do the quest also.
LOL No idea if any reds would be interested in the quest, You never know I just figured all the 1st 6 books were located in locations for both facets you would think the 7th one would be to.

I question the intepretation of 'grav' as 'energy'. I believe it should be 'field'.
I translate it as. 'Remove the protective field and let the walls rise'
(Grav is used for 'field' in poison, fire and paralyse field, Ylem is used in 'wall of stone')

I went where you indicated and found the book.

Read it. Went to the Guard and got the bag with an item as prize.

Then, I logged with another character, went to the SAME book spot and the book was no longer there.

Gone, nothing. Which means, I was unable to claim the prize with my 2nd character.

What gives ? How do i get the book back so that I can claim the reward with also my other characters ??

I'm pretty terrible at the RP/storylines (although, while the concept of two Ricardos might not bother me, the second Coil in the Stygian Abyss does bother me). I thought Ricardo was dead on Chesapeake, honestly.

‘Nes’ is the gargl word for 'requires, must, has to'. (gargl is the proper name for the gargoyle language)

It’s not a standard word of power, but they've been broadening those in the last few years with more latin-esque words (the Crimson Dragon's spells, the Slasher's, the Stygian's, etc.)

While it doesn't entirely make sense that a gargl word is in the spell, it does imply a connection to Ter Mur prior to the Gem of Immortality's destruction centuries ago... It could also imply that Ter Mur may also be the missing Sosarian continent called 'The Lands of the Dark Unknown'. However, Malas could also fit the bill for The Lands of the Dark Unknown as the Ultima cannon was never very clear on where the gargoyle lands truly were - whether they were on the same planet or a different one entirely.

The other two missing continents have already turned up as 'facets': Tokuno is the 'Lands of the Feudal Lords,' while Ilshenar is 'The Lands of Danger & Despair' (also known as Serpent Isle) all squished together.

I'm beginning to wonder how many people have been reading the books they have been getting clues to find.

Annoyingly since the books can't apparently be copied by the inscription skill in game, I had to type up a set and paste the text into books, so there may be a few typos - please shout out and correct any you spot! - but they read pretty much like this.....


Me Research, Volume 1

This be me research regardin the combination ta open Lord British's fabled Vault.
Me research has been sailing against the wind so far, but I believe the vault to be requiring words o' power.
I record the first here, it be 'An'.

Me Research, Volume 2

This be me second secret hiding place o' me research into the words what will open Lord British's Vault.
I be thinking this vault be somewhere in his royal castle. I can only imagine the treasures that await me thar, it makes me giddy to think on it and I must put those thoughts aside.
Me precious second word o' power be 'sanct'.

Me Research, Volume 3

I have discovered that one o' the great treasures of Lord British's Vault be the crystal that Minax used to be in both Felucca and Trammel at the same time.
This be of great interest to me. I can think o' many an improper use fer it.
It is not known if I can use it to be in two places in Trammel at the same time. I look forward to finding out.
I also now know the third word o' power for the key to the vault is 'grav'.

Me Research, Volume 4

I marvel at these magic locations that are somehow connected to this lamp, they be the perfect hiding place. I, Ricardo, did not make them. I have just discovered them.
They be the perfect hiding places because no one can find them but me and me wonderful lamp.
The fourth word o' power be 'vas'.

Me Research, Volume 5

I believe that the location o' the vault is somewhere in the royal throne room. It be kind of obvious, putting it there, but I imagine it to be the highest security place in the palace. I look forward to finding out.
I have discovered the fifth word o' power be 'Ylem'.

Ricardo's Great Research, Vol. 6

I did some poking around in the palace last night with these words o' power.
It seems I am still missing something. I believe that one or more objects are required. I believe I must be holding something when I speak the words o' power. I do not yet know what but I will find out.
The sixth word o' power 'tis a word I ne'er seen before, the word be 'nes'.

Me Research, Volume 7

I have discovered more about the Crystal of Duplicity. I 'ad to pay good stolen money for this information so I be recording it here.
It seems that Minax herself stole the crystal from Magincia, back before it was destroyed. I didn't know she had it in her.
It seems it was hid somewhere in Magincia by someone. I must learn more of this story.
The seventh and final word o' power is 'uus'.



No idea why the drastic title change on Volume 6....


Edit - Ignore that last question, I'm an idiot ... as Martyna has spotted, the book 'titles' when you mouse over the books are not the same as the 'title' written in the books, and I'd only noticed the 'external' title on one of them

it's another botched quest. if you recall in where the book is, it'll be invis'd, you have to go 1-2 screens(usually not far) away & come back, i had the same thing.

Word of Power: NES

Ricardo's book records that this is a word he hasn't seen before. How are we determining its meaning? I see RaDian translates it as "must." RaDian, where did you find the translation? Thanks!

I see other Ultima scholars have responded... just wanted to add that the reason for the leap to gargl (gargish... I like gargish!!! hehe) for words like NES is because the remainder of them, save for a couple of strange ones, are all rooted in gargl.

Ylem is the gargl Ailem (matter, thing), rather than Ilem (we/us).
Corp is gargl Korp... just a bit of a different spelling.

Sometimes you have to go on a treasure hunt for the words... like IN AGLO CORP YLEM -- corpse skin -- In (make) Aglo Corp (Death) Ylem (Matter)... so what's this "aglo" thing anyway? If you look to gargl, you'll have a hard time finding it (maybe), but it's there, not in spelling, but pronunciation. A{O is the gargl word pronounced "aglo," and means "armor."

You can totally ignore Chivalry (latin) and Spellweaving (elvish), but Necromancy, Magery, and Mysticism all have their roots right in the language of the Gargoyles themselves.
