Hail: I have been collecting these, returning to Tram, lockpic them, tele them, and get the stuff. Earlier, after i picked the lock, and moved away to cast tele, another player ran up and opened it. "BOOM".

He almost died. What if he would have died? Is that a murder count for me? Does it matter if i picked the lock with the chest on the ground, or i put it in my pack to pick it? Any info please, Thanks.

I believe it's only an issue if you MADE the trapped chest, not if you carried it or picked it yourself.

It'd be the other player's fault for being stupid.

You won't get murder counts from PvM loot chests, and on the opposite side of it, if you are collecting chests or want to look inside a chest, it's a good idea to Telekinesis it FIRST before opening it just to be safe.

I wish he would have. It's sorry ass players like this that take any opportunity they can to "take" from other players that ruin things for others. Maybe next time he'll think twice before opening that chest sitting there on the ground, instead of running up hoping to snag the gold before you can.

Considering 1k gold isn't really worth crap, some people will sink to new lows to get it.

To argue the other side of the point...

I'd suggest unlocking them / dropping them in your home or a more private spot. I saw the same situation you described happen earlier at Luna bank on Lake Austin (maybe the same incident?). And my thought was why is someone dropping a chest here in the middle of the bank... unless they wanted people to blow themselves up on them.

I've always taken that stuff dropped at the bank usually means its donation and free game to newbies, etc...

(assuming the incident you described happened at the bank) If it happened just outside the Moonglow gate, dropping chests there you're just asking for someone to run up and steal them - and in that case they get what they deserve.

I hear what U are saying but maybe this particular player just didn´t know that another player was working the chest... (and no, it wasn´t me
)

Many of us are curious when we see a backpack or bag or chest on the ground with items in it...

Yeah, the chest came from one of the 'blackrock infected' dark wisps. Got one earlier today, but have collected many from regular spawn outside the event.

As to the original post, if you were away from the bank and it was obvious you were picking the lock then I would have laughed if it did kill the snoop. Then again, I make GM Tinkered trapped chest to carry so when I am killed and looted in Fel they go boom.
But as others have said, be aware of the surroundings, I wouldn't drop anything at a bank that I didn't want others to open or just take. If you don't have a house, just walk off to an isolated area.

Now, as we talking about snoops, man am I getting tired of the people going through the rift and just waiting for others to kill the spawn so they can loot when it goes public. I just had someone follow me for 4 minutes while I was solo'ing a daemon, then when it went down he parked himself on the body and waited for it to go public. 3 others later sat there and watched me solo one till i had it under half, then they joined in just long enough to make sure they got looting rights.

Thanks for the answer. I did it at heaven bank as i kept some of the stuff. All the gold, maps, and even made a !00% LRC suit without needing jewlery. It is kind of funny how many of these chest are just left on the ground at the event. Now if i can just get that shadow lord to open it.......

On Lake Austin, you need to be careful with those chests in the spawn area.

I'm the shard Guildmaster for THB, and carry picks with me at all times.

If I see one of those chests on the ground in Moonglow (real or event), I go ahead and pick it, but I don't open it (and can't disarm). This makes it easier for others to loot them, if they take precautions.

So, if you find one and pick it up, and have auto-count resources on in UO Assist, you could blow yourself up by putting it into your pack....

Fair Warning....

hehe. When the chest has not been picked yet it says, "Paragon chest 68 stones" or whatever. After it has been picked, "but still armed with the trap", it says, "Paragon chest, 15 items, 68 stones". Weeeeeee.

I wonder, does the trap count as an item? hehe

I learned that lesson about dungeon chests too. Then when i would work my lockpicking I would notice some people would try and follow me and open the chests. After blowing themselves up from trying to steal my loot, I see OooOooo. One had to be taught a lesson as he thought he would be slick and timed it so as soon as I cast telekinsis he would immediately open the chest and race for the loot. So I stood back, cast it and targeted something else, booom OOooOooo. I may not be able to kill these looters, but I surely don't have to help them to my loot.

No, that's not illegal. However, crafting a box, trapping it with a Tinker, and leaving it in a public place (Like Brit Bank) is illegal and bannable. I once made a Chest and Explosion Trapped it with my Craftsman, then dropped it at Brit Bank with some Lockpicks next to it. Some people tried to open it to find it locked, then tried to pick it, they got blown up and died. People started doing it just for the hell of it and fun. There was like 11 corpses sprawled on/around the box. I went walking off, and some GM popped up and asked me if i had put the box there. I said yeah, and he warned me that placing Trapped Boxes in public places of Tram is illegal and a bannable offense. It's fine in Fel however.
