Transferring resources

I have 1 character that is my miner, and another which is my smith. Both are GM. Most likely not the ideal setup I know, but I just reactivated my old account from 10 years ago so thats what I got :p

Whats the easiest way to move ingots from my miner to my blacksmith? I dont own a house and do not belong to a guild.

Is there a mail system? Some other secure way to transfer stuff?

A commodity deed will let you move large quantities at once, but with only one account/computer - and no house, there is really no secure way to do it.

Even on Atlantic, there are available small house plots that you can place really cheap that will solve the problem for you. If you do not want a house, then it's time to start making friends! :)

No I want a house, just not sure about inflation/etc in the past 10 years :)

I was a wealthy merchant when I left in 1999, but my 300,000 gold prob aint worth spit nowadays :p

Assuming I can find a small plot of land, how much will a basic (small square) house cost me for a deed/etc?

We don't use house deeds anymore, but housing tools. I think you buy them from the real estate NPC, or one of the ones that hang around the carpenter shops. You can place a small plot for around 40k probably. It will cost more to build walls and put floors in etc, so you can just leave it bare to start and add on later when you have more cash.

BTW when you save up a bit more money you can buy a soulstone fragment token (the token, not the fragment as they are account bound), you can use this token to make a fragment which you can use to transfer skills between characters on the same account. It has five uses, so use it with care.

They run for about 400-800k depending on the shard (atl might be pricier).

Ahh very cool. TY for the info!

Are mining/blacksmithing still profitable trades nowadays?

PS - you say floors/walls cost extra? But I still can have a plot of land I call my own with a secure chest I can use to safely transfer stuff correct?

To clarify this some what.

There are still the classic houses, that come premade just as you remember, except the Large Patio no longer has aForge and Anvil.

There are also customizable houses, these can range from 8x8x1 to 18x18x3. In all cases the roof is usable, so it is like a 4th floor.

You probably could find several more or less ... deserted places in most all towns EXCEPT Luna to transfer the Commodity Deed.

You didn't specify which Shard your on, but I suspect you could get a Commodity deed for the Ingots at the bank in Britain, Trinsic, certainly Serpents Hold, Bucanners Cove, drop it on the floor and log the other character in and no one will have come by to pick it up.

You could also buy a Cheap boat, place it and drop one of the two keys. Once both characters have keys the Boat Deck (unlimited items and weight) and hold (125 items and 400 stones) are basically secure.

The Nu'Jelm Bank is great for this. :)

I am on Atlantic.

Do you think there is a chance I can find a spot to place a house in Felucca?

I have not scouted Atlantic thoroughly but I would be surprised if you could not place a house in Felucca or Trammel or Mala.

To get to Mala, enter any Moon Gate select Malas and oh Say go to Luna. Then just kind of mosey around, as I said I would be surprised if you could not find a house spot.

Most towns are so empty now you can just drop off the resources in an unused building like the butcher's or town hall, log off in the tavern and log on your other character to collect.

Long ago before I had a house, I used to log both characters in the same room in the inn. The character with the goods places the transferring items in a bag behind a wall so that it can only be seen with circle of transparency. Then log that one out and the other in real quickly and pick up the bag. When the inns were busy then I would find a place outside of the inn where you can't see the bag except with the circle of transparency. However I also found that in doing so I would find numerous other bags of items probably intended to be transfered similarly or it could have been I had a benefactor giving me gifts. LOL I would wait to see if anyone came to collect the bag and no one would so I took them. Man that's some memories. I prefered to have a friend to give stuff to but had to wait till they were on to do it so I would just do the transfers by myself. The items may have seemed like a fortune in those days are nothing by todays standards.

Back in the beginning when the world was ... busy, I had Runes Marked to places in dungeons that had low to no MoB's and had NOTHING of interest to anyone and would transfer bags there.

Then I got a boat and got everyone a Key by similar means.

That made things a lot easier.

Until I had enough gold for my first house, I had two boats. One parked in the Moonglow Harbor (tghe Main residence) and one parked at the Nu'Jelm Bank. Not like Nu'Jelm has ever been a hot bed of players. :) Anywho, the Nu'Jelm bank can be accessed from the boat and has an Inn right across the sidewalk from the bank.

that only works with multiple UO accounts, miss uo...

if you try to log into the same account twice, the older instance is terminated, no matter what machine or window instance it was logged in from.

before commodity deeds, whn I wanted to transfer big/heavy loads I parked the boat along side of the Serpent's Hold bank where you could access your bank box rt from the boat,,, much safer/easier this way

The Serpents Hold Bank on Great Lakes was my Primary Boat Bank spot (that nice little water side nook) another on Sonoma was the Skara Brae(?) Bank. Another seldom used but I did use it was the Buccaneers Cove Bank. For those that might ask why so many different spots, well back when the world was new, the Oceans of Britannia were full of boats, the Harbors of towns were so full you could not sail into town, you would end up needing to park the boat shore side some where and run into town. When they made it possible to Dock your boat by dbl clicking the Teller Man that relieved a lot of pain of a lot of people.

But in the end Nu'jelm became the spot, just very very low people traffic and 100% access to the banker always. I had a nice map that would take you from my Trinsic Homes Group to Nu'jelm Bank and from the Nu'Jelm Bank to the Trinsic Home Group. I kind of remember, as in it may no longer be that way, that you could give the map to the Teller Man and start him off on his journey and then recall off the boat and do other things while the boat was in route. If it was there when you thought it should be, then recall onto the boat and restart the journey.
