Training with jewelry

Bear with me, it's been a few years and I'm still sorting out whats outdated and what works.

I'm finishing up my thief, who is at 90.3 real stealing. I ate a 110 PS and now I'm off training, my first question is should I equip +stealing items, and do I have to adjust the weight of items for it, or do I keep stealing 9 stone items?

Next, I heard 8x8 is dead, is this true?

It also looks like from what I've been reading that stealing is no longer target based, meaning I can keep stealing the same item over and over, is this correct?

I also seem to remember that you needed players around for better gains, does this still hold true or can I go off in a corner and steal with no one around and still get gains?

Thats it for now, thanks for any help or tips!

The power scroll just increases your skill cap. No reason to put on jewels any more, just keep stealing the appropriate weight for you skill. [ 9 stone to GM, 10 stone after GM. You should be looking for a failure rate of about 50% (+/- 15%) for the best skill gains.]

Yes, 8x8 is dead. The seas are virtually empty.

It also looks like from what I've been reading that stealing is no longer target based, meaning I can keep stealing the same item over and over, is this correct?
Yes, you are correct that has changed too. Just steal the same thing over and over if that is your preference.

You will get better skill gains with NPC's or players around, but it is not required.

Hope that helps,

At high end stealing skill you get the best gains off dungeon stealables, like those in Doom, Yomotsu mines and Fan Dancer Dojo. Just go into those places and steal everything.

As far as weights of items to steal, you do need to steal items that give you 40%-60% success rate for maximum gains; my best gain per attempt was actually around 40%, but after a short while you can see what is best for you.. For me, I found that the Stratics guide was just too low in weight, and at your current skill level I got the best gains from the dungeon stealables I mentioned above and the heavy 15 stone ring mail armor. But adjust the item weight to get 40-60% success and max gains for your current skill.

You will not gain as well from stacks of gold, potions, etc. Stealing from stacks you will often steal only part of the stack and not steal enough to get gains. Steal single items of the appropriate weight instead.

One more reason to play Siege. RoT gains even get awarded if you fail on a steal attempt...la
