Training Magery, Intel not rising

So I'm training magery on a character, intel is set to raise and dexterity and strength are set to lower.

I've gained 10.0 pts in Magery but not a single stat gain.

???

Is your eval int raising too? I know I've always gained better with eval in than magery. Also it could just be that gaining to 10 just didn't set off a gain yet so it may just be way too soon to tell, RNG is a ***** sometimes.

Well, I've gone from 50.0 Magery to 60.0 on a crafter. Don't have eval int though maybe I'll set it to raise and see what happens.

Ooh, I thought you meant you raised from 0-10. Another odd note I've found is that gaining on the lower end seems to raise stats faster. Of course that may just be a kind of "wives-tale" thing as the lower you are the more rapid you gain in a smaller time slot.

Ok, well another goofy UO anomaly. I'm training using spell channeling mage weapons so I can cast low-level spells.

Anyway, with a mage weapon -29, I was casting circle 3 spell Bless. Never got a stat gain. So I switch to telekinesis and get a stat gain right away. Weird.

See??

You dont do the 10 up 10 down method?

Stat gains are a 1/20 chance of increase everytime you sucessfully gain a skill point, usually it only takes me about 2-3 hours to max out my stats.

Yah I usually do but I only had 14.0 points in magery I wanted to gain and I was only trying to raise intelligence by 5 pts so I figured I could make it. After 10.0 pts and no gains I was like wtf. I guess bless spell screws with the stats. Different spell, same level worked just fine in the last 4.0 pts.

Why did you need the INT on crafter, other than to recall? You might want to consider going to a Mage NPC next time and then buy a Magical Wizards Hat for 11 gp, which will raise your INT +5 at the expense of 5 STR/5 DEX.

Cuz his INT was so low he couldn't even get two gate travel off. Was getting irritating with unbonded packies and I didn't wanna change his suit with mana increase and he didn't really need 75 dex. Now that I think about it again, he doesn't really need hardly any dex I should just raise INT up 20 or 30 more.

I always just recall using +14 Magery ring but I added another +20 Magery but was hit by limited mana.

Ah ok. What I ended up doing for my crafter is I have +13/+13 jewels and a +11 mage book (37 total magery) and you can recall (with quite a few fails) w/ just skill items like that :) but yeah doesn't solve pack problem :/ ... once I got fire beetle though I found I needed packs less often

Yeah I was using my miner for IDOCing and I picked up a couple extra packies.

It's funny cuz once I had the mana thing solved the constant fizzles trying to cast gate travel got annoying too.

I ended up raising Magery to 70.0 instead of 64.0 and then added +36 in ring/bracelet/spellbook combo to get to 106.0 modified skill.

All because I'm too impatient. In a few more days the dumb things will be bonded anyway. LoL.

It's a common misconception that you have to gain in skill to gain in stats.

All you really have to do is have the skills set upwards (if you've reached your 720 skill cap) just set everything upward and set your stats up/down depending what you want and just do anything and you'll see your stats change.

If I remember right, stat gains are pretty much "timer" based, ie. rise only after x number of attempts in x amount of time, then start over with that same formula.

Yep, this is correct. If all your skills are locked you can't gain stat.

Well you used to be only able to gain a certain amount of stat per day. They changed it several years ago to be unlimited stat gains. Siege may still have limitations, I dunno.

According to uoguide and Stratics it says you have a 1 in 20 chance of a stat gain when you gain, or could gain, in skill.
