All your pet needs to raise magery is an opponent to cast on, it's just not the fastest skill to raise. If you can disco your pet that will help him gain a bit faster, but in all honesty I've trained most of my pets without a bard, simply through normal hunting.

What I do is try to team up my casting pet with another so he can take turns being first to attack. I've found that the first pet attacking a mob will really blast his med away, so to avoid one pet having no med when I want him casting steadily, I alternate which pet I attack with first. The supporting pets always seem to regen mana while fighting :)

I visit the Yamotsu mines and allow my pet to cast on a shadow element. There is a way to force your pet to only attack with spells, as long as another pet is tanking the elly. This method works especially quickly, because your pet will be able to cast indefinitely without a delay between targets. Here's the secret:

1) Cast a line of energy fields between your pet and the shadow element, so that your pet is not able to reach its target.
2) Tell your pet to "kill" and target the shadow element. Unable to reach the elly with its physical attacks, it will begin casting.
3) Tell your to "stay." When the energy fields disappear, your pet will remain stationary, continually using its mana supply.

I'm not aware of any faster way to train a pet's magery, meditation, and evaluating intelligence.

another good way is to go to swoop and get swoop stuck on rocks then attack it yomatsu mines seems better to the fact that you dont kill the shadow ele!! learned something new

That's what I do too when I am using multiple pets. If I'm just using one pet such as a greater dragon, I try to occasionally linger a bit over a corpse to give it time to regen mana. I also don't use sending bags very often with my tamers since learning that the casting pets seem to benefit from taking an occasional break just as much as I do! Feeding them once in a while even though their loyalty rating may indicate it's not necessary also seems to help, although I know many people swear they never feed their pets.

I don't disco when training magery because I believe that the hit on meditation skill actually slows mana regen and slows magery gains. Also, some nice ideas here, but honestly, the FASTEST way I've found to train magery on pets is to drop guild and blue train them with another pet. Obviously that doesn't work with a gdrag that has lost a lot of skill through death, but it rocks for the 2-3 slot pets where you can have two out together. Tell them to guard you, magic arrow each one, and away you go.

I use the swoop method, but theres only one swoop, so if he's taken the energy field trick is good to know.

but where do you go if you dont have SA?

It doesn't matter what your pet is casting on - so you can be anywhere. Just look for something that takes a wee bit of time to kill but not so long that your pet is casting when he has no mana left. Rotting corpses are good as they don't do a lot of damage beside the poison, and you'll be able to finish melee skills off on them and make money at the same time.
