Training healing and resist just got a whole lot easier...

My puppy died in Moonglow - I crashed while I was riding him. I went to retrain him and took him to Sphynx where I discorded him and set him on the Sphinx. Everything else trained up fast, except healing. Then suddenly it occurred to me, you can tell your pets to stay, and they won't defend themselves now.

So I told my puppy to stay, and just cast poison on him while he was discorded. I got back his .1 in under a minute. Basically you can use this method to train spell resist on any pet, and healing on cu sidhe. Training both of these just got a whole lot easier - as long as you have access to the discord skill.

Just for grins, I tried letting my cu sidhe stand passively and get pounded on by a couple of rotting corpses in Doom the other night for about five minutes while we were there killing the RCs to try to raise the cu's healing skill. The cu got no healing gains in that time and for some reason the rotting corpses eventually started to take damage. The cu's healing gains resumed when I had it actively start killing the rotting corpses again. I admit that five minutes may have been too short of a trial, especially with a cu that had about 94 healing; however, I was getting mighty bored watching it just stand there.

I wonder if we will see a change in monster AI if a lot of tamers start parking pets like cu sidhe and greater dragons in passive mode in places where they will be targeted by high-end mobs so they are forced to heal themselves. Perhaps monsters will get smart and learn to switch targets after a pet they have targeted doesn't bother to fight back for a particular period of time and yet doesn't die, i.e., when it appears that a stalemate has been reached. Or maybe we'll see monsters start using more area-effect spells or special moves. I'm certainly not advocating for that, but it is something that I am concerned could happen if people park these types of pets in popular hunting places for long periods of time without actually killing anything.

I actually doubt the devs even care if folks train by parking now... else shadow eles would be taking proper damage from pets, and things like golems and satyrs would get looked at too. We're fighting a losing battle. Players just don't seem interested in training anything through normal game play any more. Parking is the new 8x8 lol.

On the up side, training pets through hunting will always be profitable, only you can't really watch the telly while doing it

As to casting on pets who are in passive mode, I have mixed feelings. It's useful and would stop folk from pixie parking and blocking pets illegally to train, but logic would say that a pet would get p'd off if I cast on it for 20 mins! It seems very odd that pets just stand there ignoring you.

Not odd for me. My magic skills are so horrible on my Tamer the pets would probubly enjoy laughing at my feeble attempts to do anything to them. My morphing dog would probubly turn into a Mongbat just to mock me.
