Trade quests?

Let's see if I can get an answer on an old part of the game while everybody's on TC with the new stuff :)
Is there any advantage of doing the trade quest with a character who needs 4 or 5 items to fill the quest rather than a newer character who only needs one item?
I'm talking about the tram quests. I ride when the quest doesn't require sailing and gate when it does.
I've not seen a difference - I got my two guild signs when I first started doing them - and it seems to me my five-item character and my single-item character both get the same rewards. So why bother doing the quests with the five-item character?
(I did use search and didn't see an answer to this question)

The "Resource" Rewards scale based on the # Of items you recieve, but beyond that there is no point.

I wish they would of made it reset daily

Resource reward scale? You mean, for example, I might get 1 white pearl with a single-item character and am more likely to get 5 white pearls with a five-item character?

My 5 item chars routinely get scales :yell:

The chars who have gotten me the most signs were noobs with 1 or 2 item trades...go figure

The number of different items you have to get directly affects the quantity you get when the reward is stackable resources. This is especially noticeable if you are using the moongates.

For example, if you use the moongates and are rewarded with something like frostwood boards, you would get 20 boards for a one-line quest, 40 for a two-line quest, 60 for a three-line quest, 80 for a four-line quest, and 100 for a five-line quest.

If you don't use the moongates, then your reward will be considerably more than I just listed. For example, for a one-line quest, you might get 96 boards by not using a moongate instead of just the 20 you get if you used a moongate.

I cannot say that I've noticed much difference in the value of SoTs based on the number of lines that were in the trade quest. If you are trying to build up the balance in the treasury of the city where you start your quests, the amount rewarded seems to be based on number of lines in the quest, number of ambushers killed, whether you used the moongate, and actual distance covered while running, except that you shoud note that really really dragging out the running of one quest by going in a really roundabout way doesn't get any more gold from the city of origin than if you ran more or less in the straightest, shortest lines possible.

Me too, Uriah. I got my two signs when I first started doing the quests. I'm thinking of always using a single-item character for these quests, since the chances for the signs and pink scrolls appear to me to be the same

OK, that's good to know. So the tradeoff is between the chance of more resources with five-item quests and the guarantee of more pink scrolls over time and more chances at signs and books with the faster single-item quests.

Using moongates, the amount of stackable resources rewarded per number of lines in the quest seems to be as follows:

1-Line Quests:

20 Leather, boards, dragon scales, or ingots
2 Large gems from mining/fishing/lumberjacking (e.g., perfect emeralds, white pearls)
2 Magical residue, enchanted essence, or relic fragments
2 Parasitic plant (and maybe luminescent fungi?)

2-Line Quests: Multiply above amounts by 2.
3-Line Quests: Multiply above amounts by 3, except for magical residue, or relic fragments. Those seem to be capped at 5 for 3-, 4-, and 5-line quests.
4-Line Quests: Multiply above amounts by 4, except for magical residue, or relic fragments. Those seem to be capped at 5 for 3-, 4-, and 5-line quests.
5-Line Quests: Multiply above amounts by 5, except for magical residue, or relic fragments. Those seem to be capped at 5 for 3-, 4-, and 5-line quests.

If you don't use the moongates, the amount you get of the stackable resources will be more than shown above, although I'm not certain about this for the residue, essence, or relic fragments. Can't find a good example in my notes for receiving any of those on a quest run without using moongates.

Getting two signs right off the bat could just be the RNG working in your favor. Maybe some kind of "beginner's luck" to lure you into doing the quests plus using a character that just seems to be inherently lucky instead of one that seems to be cursed with drab luck no matter what it does. :)

Assuming you use a moongate to complete the trade quests, it is 10K per item that is donated into the city treasury.

1 Item = 10K and 5 Items = 50K.

That is the advantage to the city.

I hate how some NPCs have 0 items for sale now in the EC, beyond annoying.
