Does anyone know if GM skill makes any difference from the human 20 jot bonus? Is there any point in using skill points for something that any human can do in one or two tries?
Do you get a bigger tracking radius with higher skill or something?

You certainly don't have a good chance of finding someone with 100 hiding/120 stealth with 20 Tracking. Also you have an even lower chance of revealing them if you try because it is based on Tracking/Detect Hidden skill.

Whether or not you can track another player is decided by looking at your Tracking and Detect Hidden skills and your target's Hiding and Stealth skills. The exact formula looks like this:

% Chance of tracking = (Tracking + Detect Hidden + Random 1-20) / (Hiding + Stealth) * 50

So a player with GM Tracking and Stealth would have about 50% chance of tracking a player with GM Hiding and Stealth.

Players with no Hiding or Stealth can always be tracked with 100% chance.

Necromancers can be a bit harder or easier depending on which form they are in. Vampires always have a minimum of 50, if their Hiding + Stealth is less than 50. The big blue four-armed demon gets a penalty of 20. It's so big it's easier to track. Wraiths and Banshees get a bonus of 20 to their difficulty, if they're below 200.

I know that one time one of my trackers with GM tracking and GM detect hidden kept an OJ on tracking from inside the TB base while they ran to the Brit moongate. The tracking arrow disappeared and I got the "you lost your quarry" message just as a guildmate said in Vent that the person had popped through the moongate. That's not to say that my tracker could pick up someone on tracking within that same radius, but I was a little bit amazed she was able to keep the tracking arrow up for that long. It was someone that we wanted to find and it was helpful to know they were still in the general area. I first picked them up on tracking when they were right outside the base and my tracker was inside.

That's why you have to track monsters..... as well as Players.... rather silly but if you track monsters you can track folk in wolf form.....

But.... I have only 40 tracking and I can track even 120 stealthers.... takes me about 3 tries to get them on tracking but I can do it......

and tracking seems to work allright with 20 or 50 skill just takes you longer to do it successfully


Friend has a stelther whom i tryed tracking took me 5 trys to get him to apear (50 tracking skill) in tracking window though, so more would be better to catch the sneeky ppl.

I don't know if it's just me or not but my GM tracker is more accurate than my JoAT guys. The arrow seems to be right on the money rather than just a general "he's around here somewhere" thing.

GM Tracking makes a big difference with people with Hiding / Stealth. I have GM Tracking and sometimes it takes me 6-7 tries to get someone. It's hard with it and impossible (?) without it.
