Tokuno: Am I doing it wrong?

So my plan of action for the current ToT goes somewhat like this.

1) Enter Tokuno.
2) Kill everything.

I've killed about a hundred assorted monsters so far (not counting, you know, barnyard animals and the like). Someone told me to keep to the lower-level spawn, so I've been doing bake kitsunes, yomotsu, hiryus and so on. I haven't recieved a single minor artefact yet.

So I was wondering, am I doing this correctly? Is there something I need to do first? Do I just keep going until I get something?

Thank you.

Did you do the tot quest to receive arties first?

Haha, I'm messing with you. Just kill stuff. When you kill a monster it's fame counts towards your chance to get a tot. So say you kill 10 succubi, thats like 220k fame or something along those lines. And say (these are made up numbers just FYI) at 0% accrued fame your chance of a drop is 1/100 but at 200k accrued fame it is 1/10. So now you can go kill tons of small stuff very quickly and each one will give you a 1/10 shot at getting a ToT.

Once you get a tot drop it starts all over (the accrued fame bit, so now you're back to 1/100 chance of a drop). So the very best way that I know of is to kill high end for fame then low end for chances, which is why the fan dancer dojo demon room with all those little horde minions and such is so popular. Of course some people with uber templates and kill certain tough monsters very quickly and will just plow through them and get drops. So if there's something you know you can kill quickly that is a tough monster that might be a good thing for you to tackle.

A hundred monsters isn't that much, especially if they're low-level. While I generally average a drop every 15 minutes, I've gone as long as 45 minutes between drops, even at top killing speed, which is about 6 4k-fame monsters a minute (so I guess that works out to nearly 300 monsters).

Also, I'd stay away from hiryus & lesser hiryus -- I haven't had much luck with them, and I had one guildie who claims he killed them for 4 hours without a drop. Do the champ spawn, earth elementals, tsuki wolves, rune beetles, or pretty much anything in fan dancer dojo.

Like Sarsmi said, try farming the high-end mobs for apprx 20 mins to get your base chance up (your mileage may vary depending of what and how fast you kill, guestimate, when you gathered 20k from daemons), then kill lots of weak mobs to force a drop.

If it doesn't work, try using a different char.

This is my friends system, I tried it. 8 out of 10 times it seems to work.

* kill high level critters, ie; tsuki wolves. accumulate 12k in gold. (why, I don't know)

* then head off to waste, kill low level, beetles, undead, orcs......

* within 10 minutes, a drop.

On my sixth try doing this, at 5AM this past sunday, I got my mempo.
It was also drop # 163.

Prior to trying this, I was going well over an hour at times trying to get a drop. Imagine going an hour and a half only to have yet another useless minor sit there and laugh at you?

Give it a try, can't hurt.

How to do it.

KILL 10 - 20 rune beetles.
You might get a drop but this is to pump fame.

If you do get a drop start over and kill 10-20 rune beetles

THEN go to tokuno champ spawn. Cast EV and Earthquake. If your not a mage get a sword that does area damage.

Work the spawn once from start to finish.

You will get 2-3 arties everytime this way.

You can bypass the rune beetle part of this and still get 2-4 arties every time (got 5 once, but it was early and only a few other people were there).

But Rune beetles do pass the time between champs nicely, and it's only a few second run from the beetle spawn tot he champ spawn.

I find luck helps. It's why I do ToT on my tamer as opposed to other chars. (Who could do better, but don't have the luck suits).

I also found mixing it up in the same place helps. If you could say, find a place that has say, something that's fairly tough running around with something that dies in a couple shots.. I find these places are the best. (Like a mongbat spawning with skeletons, but further up the fame scale for both)

If I can fill my pack to 50k gold, I'll generally get 2-3 minors before I have to bank.

Grab a char that can do good area dmg, and go kill LOW lvl critters which you can kill like 100 in 5 mins. I mean things you 1 hit kill with one wither. Or go to Tokuno Champ spawn and keep making area dmg.

With like 600 luck, I hunted about 30 mins Tsuki Wolves and I got one.
IMO, just kill whatever you can kill the faster with a good respawn and near each other. Don't try what's too risky or take longer to kill just because it has higher fame, go where you're efficient.

As someone already stated, 100 is nothing... I've been doing the champ spawn exclusively for my minors. If I get there at the start, I am getting 4-5 a shot. Mostly 4 but about 5% of the time I get 5.

EQ, wither, or whatever area damage method is your friend. The more you kill, the more chances you have to get one. My understanding is the ToT system is two fold: for every monster, you get a check... and then you get a point system based upon monster fame.

I got my mempo off second level spawn:thumbsup: I've also come to a spawn waiting for it to start, hit a sheep, and got a minor:danceb:

I haven't really figured it out. I've been hacking and slashing rev lions and onis and drop them pretty quick but have very few tots. But, I have a friend that was going through the same thing and then she had several drops within an hour. I think the points counter is off.

Like everyone has said, high-fame monsters will do the trick. I haven't really noticed anyone doing them in any pattern or order... so I'm thinking its more of a hack-n-slash method :D

I personaly just got back on about 5 days ago and im up to 97 minors and about 50 dyes, I honor everything for a luck bonus fame farm rotting corpses, demons, or sucubis, I kill 15 or them and then slaughter lesser mobs, get a drop 80% of the time every 10 min or so but,,, I have had a spell with the rng that had me go from 0 fame to lord title without a drop.

All this "high fame monsters get you more drops" is absolute bull, i've gotten over 150 drops and a mempo from earth ellies and dull copper ellies in the mines! And i got my first mempo from a horde minion, i was getting drops every 15-20 minutes in the yomatsu mines :D

it does not matter what drop you get, fame just increase your chances of a drop till you get a drop.

but with the rng having a very large and very unknown range I have killed 2 skeletons and got a drop back too back and hunted succies for an hour and got nothing.

still I say my best odds are killing a high fame mob for 10 or 15 min then mass murdering easly mobs.

The dull copper/earth elemental spot in the Mines seems to defy the high fame thing, you are correct about that. I read somewhere else that old world (non-tokuno) creatures give better results for drops than tokuno monsters -- might be why daemons, elementals, succubi work so well, but Rune Beetles work pretty good too so who knows.

If you are only getting 3-4 drops per hour, then you may want to re-think your comment. The drop-rate on Daemons and Succubi is 6-8 per hour. You'd probably have around 300 drops by now if you'd go for the High-Fame mobs.

hmm I wonder if EA even knows the real numbers for this, the rng seems all over the place sometimes, ill check into lizzies but I get good results with revenent lions and they are tokuno, about a drop every 15-20 min

It's not exactly about high fame vs. low fame. It's about fame per second -- if you can kill 100 1k fame mobs a minute, you're doing better than someone who is killing 5 15k fame mobs a minute. Find a sweet spot and you'll do the best -- daemons are an obvious choice, but they tend to be well camped.

I agree, why everyone like the succies, they can F you up if your not paying attention but, I kill them in 3 to 4 hits so they die as fast as a deamon, but offer less saftey.

I know its a lore thing but why do they make it tokuno only still, ppl are fighting over good spots while the rest of the game is empty lol

Whats with orc killers though? They dont spawn near as fast as it would require to get a good drop rate. Just to auto defend whilest crapping or what?

lol sorry , im done :p

Honestly the best way seems to be doing the champ spawn. In between go do beetles or something close by if you wish, but come back to the spawn. Seems to be on auto mode atm so Boss dies 15 minutes later spawns popping again.

Each run I end up with 5-6 Minor/Pigments and around 60k. You also may get some pink scrolls to, which is an added bonus, I was all happy because I've managed to get 2 .5 Taming scrolls and 1 .5 Mage scroll. Not only that but you get a shot at a replica from the boss (I got the Pacify Replica :( ).

So far Me and the wife have hundreds of the minor arties (Seriously lol, I mean hundreds) tons of Pigments. 2 mempo's a few Replica's etc etc. So yeah champ spawn would be your best bet in my opinion.

Totally disagree, 4mempos in under 200drops.

All from demons, add to this that over half of my drops are dyes!

@The gray ghost: What template do you use for the champ?
I go as a Mage Weaver

Magery
Eval Int
Med
Focus
SW
Resist Spells.

I pretty much just alernate between Essence of Wind and Earthquake and of course drop EV's. When the Champ is out, I keep EV's on him and hitting with spells as much as I can while making sure I don't run out of mana before he hits 30% for WoD spam lol.

Suit has

1200+ Luck
LRC 100
LMC 40
SDI 35%
FC4/FCR6
MR 8

Wife goes as a Necro Mage Weaver

Magery
Eval
Necro
SS
Med
SW

The wife tends to get more drops than I do per run though lol. Wraith form + Essence of Wind + wither + Earth Quake + EV's + WoD. She doesn't run out of Mana :( .
