To all Europa's players: put again vendors in your houses...

First, forgive my poor english but I'm from Italy... :)

Coming back in UO from years of absence surely showed me a Sosaria much less crowded.
You can find spot to place houses, streets are nearly empty and life seems all around latest events or Luna.

If no one can do anything to bring back old times, I think that WE can do much to show the lands a bit more living.

Wandering by the lands I've been surprised of how much can do to see a house open to the public and with vendors in it that not only sell the latest arties.
It really adds much to the world.

Since doesn't costs much to put vendors from a role play prospective (and not just with useless deco asking millions for it), please, let's do it!

I think that this would be nice even for the (few) new players.
Try to figure how bad can be a world where you start with 1000 gold coins, filled only of private houses and vendors with items worth millions.

Let's offer again bandages, raw food, leather, ingots.
If many of us will do it again, the world will look surely more living and everyone will gain in this.

Cheers!

I was considering a small workshop fel side selling potions, tinkered stuff (bolas? chicken lizard collars?), and translocation powder. I don't have enough fountains to sell bandies as normal bandies don't seem to sell any more.

There as been a sad decline in vendors at peoples houses and indeed small shops on europa....very sad that people still think the vendors charges are too much???....u've gotta speculate to accumulate.....running a shop with 1-2 vendors frorm your own house is awesome fun and with a few rune drops and good priced items the gold will come pouring in.

Thanks for replying.
And, obviously, I love your idea even more because you plan it on Felucca side (where I live).

When you put it up send me your sextant coordinates, so we'll get in touch.

I know THP, vendors usually consume gold and, often, people do all by their own.

But I think that is senseless just to accumulate gold in banks and not "enjoy the world".

A MMORPG should be more on the latter.

And doing our part in letting the world feel alive could be a good beginning.

Consider also that vendors with standard good (and not absurdely overpriced items) consume very very few gold.

But gives the shop owner a great return in terms of feeling.

Gimme a rough idea then, I know potions sell so my alchemy is useful. How much do Scale Collars, Bolas, and Gorgon Lens sell for? Do any of the engraving tools or is there anything else tinker made that sells?

If you want to sell potions, give Glenora a shout; she's got more orders than she can handle atm!

To be honest, just saying in global I have a few k of 1 type of potion has got an instant response every time. Do think Europa could do with more shops outside of Malas though :)

Put the prices low and the Luna re sellers will just buy you out and put your stuff up at higher prices.

Pots and tinker stuff is all I will be able to do. I bank sit so much because 99% of the time I am doing something and just hitting 'Make Max' on a tool. Not much resource farming for me sir.

I still have the tower at the gate from vesper to buccaneers den which used to be a gold mine when felucca was striving. I could always put up a vendor selling Kegs for acceptable prices. All i would need is a clear idea of fair prices. I still have like 125 empty kegs from "back in the days" that just need a filling. ;)

edit: Wasn't the search site you mentioned using illegal software to update the vendor inventory? I dunno if you should post the URL here.

Scale collars are ... problematic. From taming dozens of battle chickens, and watching/helping others tame many more, you simply don't need the collars. Hatch the egg in a small room so you don't need to run about, and you're just fine. The collars were a nice idea, but I doubt you'll be able to sell any.

Sure.
I'm pretty sure that many of the deeds that are bought from my shop are re-sold for more in other places...
...but that's something I can't stop.

I keep doing my good job and try to spend time dropping runes for my shop especially in Heaven or giving 'em directly when I see young players.

For me is fine that in Luna I can find uber rares at super prices, what is lame is seeing common items or resorces sold for insane ammount of gold.

The main aspect anyway is that we put a little life again in this world, not the gain that we can do from selling.
The pleasure of seeing streets alive with vendors, of beeing able to buy bandies right out of a dungeon, to remember players due to their shop and their specialization.

At least that's my idea...
:)

You're right Kas!
didn't know about it, but edited the link.

I wasn't suggesting using it, was just to prove that a quick search on common items could easily show how insane are many prices...

If you need somewhere safe in Fel to sell from, I have a classic L shape house in Britain guardzone :)

Thankies fer the offer but I got my eyes on a small practical plot. I wouldn't want to rent vendor spots because... Well... I am fickle.... And busy outside of UO... (Open University degree, work full time, own a business in Second Life, and try to have a life with the missus) I might leave UO / let my sub run out any given day, and I would feel like a sod leaving people with empty vendors. Make more sense for me to just have a lil spot somewhere as I don't want things left in my house, and run from that.

Well if you like the idea of living in Ocllo there are a few spots where you could place from a small house to a L Villa.

I would love the idea of turning the "Dying Ocllo" in a new island with vendors.
Could be great from two points of view.
The first is that due to the uneven terrain the places where you can place a house are

Very limited, so won't ever be crowded.
The second is that Occlo is related to new heaven, so it could make sense from the point of view of offering something for new players.

If you find 5 mins of time tomorrow we can meet in game and I can show you the surroundings.

Already know what plot I want, sorry :)

On the subject of Fel vendors, my 2 fave shops ever were in Fel post Trammel arrival. Dreamstone Market owned by Wenchkin off of here, and... I think her name was Tally... Tallys good price store...

Both just sold useful stuff and were always stocked.

I think its a great idea. I used to play Drach but went to Europa when I returned to UO after not playing for two years. It is indeed hard to find normally priced, craftable items... small shops would be nice for starting players who havent got millions in the bank.

OK - since i like the idea and spirit showing in this thread i'd like to hijack it a little bit for some selfish advertisement;-)

I just plaxed a House in the Area of Spiritwood (next to Skara Brae on the Mainland) and
build some kind of mall there with a Book-Library in the top floor.
The Library is the old Vinyamar Library founded and put together by Muldran Skully and it
also holds a memorial of the old ShadowCourt Guild.

The Building is called 'Spiritwood Arcades' and is designed to hold small areas for different
professions incl. Display-Cases with the according items. I myself am not very reliable as a shopkeeper tbh. but i would be glad and more than happy if maybe some people would like
to place Vendors there to sell the according goods. Vendors would be free to place ofc..

By the way - the Building is not far from the RAA Emporium, but its not ment as a challenge
for those kind people since it is not ment as one of those 'you can get everything here'-Shops but more some kind of community location where you can find shopkeepers in the according environment. (Maybe some of the RAA-Members could even see it as a possible add-on location ;-))

Hey Crest, that's absolutely fine this kind of contribution!

If you can, post sextant coordinates and a screen!!
)

@Quazar: Dunno if you look for some specific resource, but I try to keep prices the lowest possible.
If you in need of something special, let us know!

As you can see from the thread, some vendors are still alive and some will be opened soon.

Thanks guys for beeing positive about it!

i was running a "shopping centre" in the old orc fort at the top of umbra road a few months back but with RL could no longerfind the time tostock over 80 vendors but i am in the middle of reopening this place but with a chance for pople to come along and place vendors tryin to make this small spot as lively as i can so if you want to pop over and see how works going then feel free to do so but it is taking me a couple of days to get it all finished so far 1 plot down 5 to go hoping people will want to run vendors here as i have seen a great lack in simple vendors for simple none expencive items
