Hello everyone I have a question about titles. At the moment my title is "Master Stoic". I was wondering what does stoic be? Shouldn't it say tamer considering I am a Tamer/Mage?

Thanks!

your titile will say whatever the highest skill you have's corresponding name. I'm guessing you're 90-99 meditation? (or is master 80-89? anyone? its been awhile).
I think focus is also "stoic".

Oh oh, I'm 91.6 focus and about 64 Meditation. Is there anyway to lower focus?

Quickest way to lower focus would be to dump it onto a soulstone. Other than that you'll have to set it to down [v] and wait until your other skills force it lower. This will only happen if you're at your 700/720 cap though.

If you really don't want to keep the title a minute longer, set focus to down and train any 2 or 3 skills to 25/30-ish at trainers to force it down. Although this will give you a different title you'll be left with 2 or 3 'dead' skills that you'll need to lower at some point.

Bear in mind Med & Focus are the two quickest raising skills in the game, so you'll probably find the 'stoic' title will disappear when you dump focus, only to re-appear again when Med inevitably overtakes your other skills

Is focus a needed skill?

It depends entirely on the character you are building. For a Paladin focus is good to have. But assuming you are making a tamer, focus is not needed.

You don't need to start again though. If it were me I'd just leave my title as stoic. Infact when starting a new character I leave both Med & Focus on up and only set it down when I'm at my cap and need room for the 'real' skills on my template.

If you really want to start over, then locking skills wont cause any problems. It just means that without focus you mana & stamina regen rate will be slower.

Well Since I am only 59.2 Taming on my current character and fairly low mage I think I will restart. The character I play at the moment was my first ever so I'm still trying to figure things out;p. I actually have one more question then I'll leave you alone :$! Are there any benefits to being an elf when it comes to taming & magic?

Well let me start by saying that a Tamer/Mage is a great character to start with, so good choice there

I wouldn't restart though, not when you already have those points in Taming. There's no need to restart, remember there aren't any 'fixed' classes in UO so it doesn't matter how many different skills you have in your template, just keep training as you are with Taming/Lore/Vet & Magery/Eval/Med and you'll be fine.

As for being an Elf, yeah imho they are slightly better suited to being a Mage/Tamer for two reasons, 1. You get more mana than humans, always handy for a Mage, and 2. Only Elves can tame the Cu Sidhe. But you'll be a long time before you are taming a Cu, so don't feel you have to go Elf. If you prefer human then you'll get on just as well.

Don't worry too much about being Elf or Human though as no matter what you pick, you can change your race in-game after you start, so you're never stuck with which one you choose.

Alrighty, well thanks for for all the help Frodo, I really appreciate it, also to others who have helped. One of the main reasons I wanted to start over is I don't particularly like this accounts name
so a fresh start would be good for me I think
