If there is to be a future Classic Server,I would ask the Devs to look very closely at loot drops. Specifically gold being found on feral beasts such as hell cats, for example. Gold being found on non-humanoid,non-dragon npc's doesn't make sense.Eliminate that from the loot drop and the economy would be the better for it.

I've always felt that this should be the way. Animals and monsters that don't use money or have some other reasoning for carrying it should offer skins and other parts for reward.

Same thing with weapons and other items, by the way.

You should let them agree to create one first, it won't hurt so bad later if they say no.

Without having the creatures having a 'lair', there is a chance they could have some of that stuff as incidental because they in theory could have killed previous travelers, etc.

I dunno magical animals are hoarders, so because they might not be able to use gold it doesn't mean they don't want it in their possession,

It make some sense for orcs to have gold, for example. Even if they are non-human, they are intelligent (not very, but you get the point). The same could be said for liches...but why would a wraith have gold? Or a hell cat? Or a skeleton.

NuSair makes a good point though. The 'loot' on the creatures could represent what they have picked up from killing other travellers. Actually, some creatures will loot your corpse now (demons and liches do this for sure)...

...does anyone know if you kill a creature that has looted a player if that stuff still drops as loot since instanced looting began? It has been so long since I bothered to loot things like liches and demons, I don't even know! (yes, the game economy is THAT broken) :)

I agree, but when you take away their gold, and if they don't give hides, theres no point in hunting a large majority of things.

you can still get other drops from the monsters, and I really like the idea of lessening the gold drops. even if we keep it where pretty much everything drops gold, I'd like to see that amount lessened.

Or maybe if you still want a "point" in hunting something for it's gold, make only maybe 1 in 5 of them drop some, so if you want to be lazy and farm skeletons then you will have to accept that being lazy will cost you. And skeletons are great for new players because they die easily and drop a couple thing sthat are useful to a new player.

I LOVE seeing this, it means that you can not deny that players want a classic shard, and if you want us to go away, we will do so happily... onto our classic server when it's born ;)

I've actually tried doing this. Unfortunately, the same 15-20 people keep bumping the topics to the top.
Is your scroll wheel broken so that you can't scroll past the most active topics?

Take a skeleton, for example:

A skeleton should drop whatever weapon it is carrying, and some bones as loot. That should be about it.

Players could collect the bones to sell them, or to make bone armor out of them. They could also sell, keep, or smelt down weapon.

Some skeletons have wooden shields...they could drop those too.

Certain creatures, like lizardmen, should drop weapons, and provide hides.

I don't think it would be overly complicated to tie the graphic (Item ID) that the server 'spawns' to the loot table to make the two coincide, but then again, with the new instanced corpses...I am probably wrong.

Well, amongst some of my "classic" memories, I do recall a certain group of "urks" on Great Lakes who would take offence at the suggestion they weren't intelligent. ;)

Normal punishment for such behaviour towards an "urk" would have been the removal of the offending "hoomie" head and it's display somewhere.

In fact, before I left Great Lakes for Europa last year (due to poor internet access at the time) there was one of those original player-orcs still around by the name of Oog Blac... great bloke and still spoke in orcish :)

I often wished they had made orcs a playable race before elves or gargoyles.

The Orcs were on LS also, they never broke character and did an amazging job of RPing. I still give them props

We had the Stormreaver Orc Clan on Atlantic. They were awesome! My guild always left them alone out of respect, even though they would on rare occassion attack an innocent player. The difference was, they were doing it as part of their RP, and not just to get 'pHaT LoOtZ' or whatever.

How does a wolf carry around gold and a long spear?

Yeah, because let's face it, the economy is in shambles because of those damn Hell cat and Troll farmers....

*sighs* My point is that gold should only be found on a few select NPC's. Why would any feral beast even have gold on them...and where would they even keep it?

NPC's that should carry gold and other "shinies":

Brigands
Gyptsies
All dragon type because of their hoarding instinct
All humanoids such as ettins, orcs, trolls, and "savages"
Evil mages
All Liches

LoL right. Gold farming is not what increase the gold in the UO it was the dev and the dupes. So I thing the little bit of gold these thiongs give seemingly a weak feral beast would probably take at least 15 minutes for a solo player to kill. Remmeber where thinking classic terms. The highest armor is gm. Getting GM armor it's going be a while. The first Gm smith won't pop up on that shard for probably almost half a year to a year. I doubt the classic shard will last 10 years from now without any change any upgrade any difference to build up enough gold in the whole shard to even dent the difficulty in just getting the first boat.
In order for the shard to remain classic it cannot get any updates. So 10 years from now you be playing a over 2 decades old game with graphics and so forth paying maybe 20 a month factoring inflation. Anyway classic shard would be nice side experiment for a little while.

There's no reason that a "classic" shard would have to use classic graphics. Maybe the devs could use the engine that was to be UO2?
