Thoughts about coming back

Hi folks

for some time i am thinking about coming back to UO, espacially to the europe shard.

Its been a long time sine i played uo for the last time. Back then i sold my account (what a shame) and just tried playing it two years ago with a new account ... but without knowing anybody playing, running around without beeing up to date ... well i gave up playing again.

But i thinking about coming back again, now. I am asking myself, if it will be more fun than last time, if i can connect to UO again.

Whats ur opinion? Are there still people out there playing? How could i start again without losing hope?

Please answer and thanks u very much for every suggestion.

Hey hey - sorry there were no replies earlier - normally there would be

I returned in Dec/Jan myself but was in the comfortable situation to still
have my stuff and charakters - but its great to be back. UO and UO Europa
are still around and quite active - even though the population numbers are
dropped a lot since the peak time of UO.

Nevertheless i have witnessed a great helping spirit in game and the new
Players who are entering the game are helped to a great deal if they allow
and accept it and not acting totally annoying towards the helpers

So my answer on your Questions is: Just give it a try - and enter the General chat,
participate there, talk to people and walk around and dont try to solo everything.
Economy is a bit inflated - so your starting gold and the beginner mobs wont give
you a very good starting point - but community will i am sure.

I myself am often in Chat at evenings and will be more than happy to equip you
with the stuff i have available to help you get sorted for a good start.

I've come back from a long time ago recently too, but also to my old characters yet none of my possessions; and I'd say you need to have some sort of goal to enjoy your time back... The world has moved on, and you with it since quite naturally, and expecting UO to hit you like it did all of us back then is unrealistic. Also depending on when you left, there could be up to 3 new land masses, but a lot of the content outside of towns is exceptionally hard for even advanced characters to survive solo, so starting from scratch you aren't going to see it any time soon. Hence you need to have an particular adventure in mind.

As mentioned, there is still an active community on Europa, and the role players flourish as always, so if you plan to socialise, set this as your aim when you arrive... always wanted a large house? 18x18 spots are now easily located, I've seen one IDOC advertised and accidentally walked into another at a pretty large store in the few weeks I've been... possibly even castle sized plots are available in some of the new lands, as I've seen up to Keep sized ones even in Trammel just wandering about. See a particular champion spawn? They are still being hosted, and with global chat it's much easier to arrange one. PvP? This I know nothing about the health of I'm afraid...

However, there is currently a 14 day free trial for UO; and as you are going to be on a new account anyway, why not give it try and see how you feel?

the best advice after you have found your feet, get Stygian abyss expansion and learn the new craftin skill Imbueing amazing you can make what ever weapon you want to kill whatever monsters etc

thank you for all the great answers and "Welcome back, give it try"-shouts.

As for me, i loaded an install file from a Free Shard Server and i am beeing updating (i think this will take awhile), but u absolutly catched me. I'll come back. My goal will be, to have a nice crafter, mage an warrier, like before. A great home in Trammel and hopefully nice people to hunt and have fun with.

I made a little mistake. My first account, or first set of chars were an Catskills, after Europa being introduced, i had a nice living there (Virusk Pikard was my main char, a nice Nox Mage back then, but i never liked playing PvP ... and i think she was called Shivar Reevar, she was a "craftwoman" like nobody ... that were nice times).

My second account, if he is still in the databases of OSI, was on Drachenfalls. I think, i have that i have three chars there, but i am not quite sure. Maybe i have a server change ticket as well, have to see. Europa is still some kind of home to me ...

I'd be very grateful for your wishes to introduce me to UO again. I'll certainly need help, and what more important, i'll hope to see you playing with a little old noob.

But i have a little question. What is that global chat? In my times, we were just using ICQ (mine is 133-48-488 if anybody wants to add me)...

Welcome back !

In New Haven you can find players from the guild HLP that help new and returning players get started. I would also recommend the guild Saor as a pool of knowledge of mostly everything, divided by its members. Take Jack up on his offer as well, he knows Sosaria very well and will probably find you a spot to set down your house pretty fast.

And get on global chat, on Europa we use the general chat for mostly everything. You can ask questions there as well. ICQ is still used, but these days it`s far easier to use the chat function. If you use 2D client you can choose it from the top menu.
