This Seems a Little Harsh...

My newest Tamer had 97.8 Taming, 108.5 Lore & 93.3 Vet. So we made 18 attempts to Tame Bulls (53.6% chance of success) and 54 attempts to Tame Gaman (58.4% chance of success).

After all that effort, my newest Tamer gained 0.3 Lore, 0.2 Vet and guess how much Taming??? Absolute ZERO, NONE, NADA, NIL, not one gd or ggs gain!

Hey, better than six months of waiting for that single "GGS" gain.

Otherwise, it does seem a bit harsh. Just hang in there and be patient. It's really not that bad. I used to do hourly sessions every single day, and for the most part, I think it helped. Those hourly sessions weren't really bad either, but it all depends as to whether you have enough time or not.

Your succes chance is too low. As far i know best gains are between 70% and 80% succes chance. You failing too much at 53%

I always kept that in mind when working on skills, works also for crafting.

Bulls are fine to tame at at your level, but it's still too early for gamans.

This page will help when wondering what to work on.

Another good idea is to lock everything but animal taming when you're training this skill, to concentrate on raising it. You'll have plenty of time and oportunities to gain in vet and animal lore while actualy playing.

Eating a PS can help too. If you're capped at 100 your skill between 90 and 100 will raise slowly, so eat at least a 110 scroll. I recently raised peacemaking and this made a huge difference in gains frequency.

This is the guide I use. http://www.strangeworld.com/uo/prc/prc.php?Section=taming_gain It's a bit old, but it's always worth trying different critters. Try and go for animals that spawn in higher quantities, otherwise you'll be spending too long hunting down the next tame. Don't make it more tedious than necessary

I favour greater harts at Healer's Grove around that area. Or you can put on jewellery, and go work the cu sidhe spawn. I got so bored taming just for gains, that I figured it would be more pleasant to gain while finding coloured pups for my friends.

Sometimes I wear jewels that bring my taming skill over the cap, so there is nothing more to gain. In those cases when I gain there is no report of "gain 0.1 in taming" but there is the companion report, "lost 0.1 in Med."

It's possible that you actually got the taming gain but didn't see it on the screen.

Thats why i tame for the Zoo. I tame a Unicorn and then donate it to the Zoo and then recall back to tame another one.

Like this i got some pieces of Zoo armor while working on Taming.

Because of the guild I'm in that participates in factions on a lot of shards, I've been working on characters on many shards. I currently have 16 tamers that I'm working on. A few of them were started with 50 taming skill but most started at 85 taming. I started tracking their gains in a spreadsheet starting in January and so far have gotten over 558 taming gains among those characters. A lot of days I only try for one taming gain per character, but on other days I do more on specific characters and sometimes will just tame with that character only for one to three hours straight or as long as I can stand it. I've found that it definitely pays to keep multiple sets of taming jewelry on your character so you can experiment with taming different critters. Donating to the zoo also helps, although it will be many months if not years until it pays off in my case. Haha.
