This new particle effect for fire in EC..

...Has to go.
It's bad enough that I walk around normally decorated houses and get severe lag, now with this update - even though it looks really cool, I cannot walk through my own house with my chosen deco without getting crippling lag. The only lag I ever had in my house in the EC before today was strictly loading the deco and when going through full containers or the stupid moving crate.

This is completely unacceptable, if I want to have a forge in my house, I shouldn't have to be crippled by lag.

I am aware of the option to reduce the particle settings... but particles have only ever given me trouble on corgul... and now this. I shouldn't have to reduce my game settings for one single thing that causes me severe lag that shouldn't. (I don't even know if that would really fix it)

...can't even walk through my own house... *grumble* >.< :cursing:

I very much dislike this patch.

I'm fighting Flame Elems in Shame and not noticing any issues, also no issues at my house which is covered in lighting effects. I'll have to check against the Goblin Alchemists as they do a smaller version of the offending effect.

try with about 20 braziers.
I had 20 braziers key to my deco, but every time they flame up it is completely crippling, i had to remove them all, put them in boxes and still got noticeable lag when my forge - the only item in my house left with a fire effect did it's thing. The forge has also been removed.

I too was fighting flame elementals in Shame after the patch.. And have many braziers and a several forges in one of my houses... I didn't notice any lag... Try rebooting?

Isn't this publish still only on Origin? I haven't noticed a new particle effect on Pacific.

I think its a bug, I put everything back, and I can't seem to duplicate it... the braziers and the forge were flaming up with their particle effect every 3 - 5 seconds or so, after putting everything back they only do that when the house loads now.

Strange.

Update:
I have been able to duplicate the issue.
It is not so much an issue with the items themselves causing lag.

What happens is (at least for me), when I move an item in a very full container, for some reason the braziers and my forge's particle effect is activated. This is lag on top of lag. Container lag for some reason seems to cause the particles to activate which then cause even more lag.

..The whole 3 - 5 second timing thing I described above I realized was basically due to the delay between dragging items out of one container into another. (I was sorting about 50 new items I got from Shame)

Until this issue is resolved, I will have to again remove these items from my house sadly. At least I figured out how to duplicate the issue.

Edit: and yes, I did reboot.

i've had similar issues when all my items are in a storage container. it would take about 30 seconds for a box to open. i don't think it has anything to do with the new patch as this issue was happening for me prior.

The fire particle effect? I've never seen it before the patch.
The container lag issue I have posted about several times.

The container lag issue is made far worse with the fire particle effect issue.
Edit: oh, I discovered how to duplicate the issue when I noticed the fire particle effect activating when I opened up my spellbook and a couple of my full runebooks. The runebooks didn't have as big of a lag issue, so the particle effect was small and almost unnoticeable, when opening the spellbook though the particle effect was fairly intense and caused a significant amount of extra lag for about 2 seconds. After that, I opened a nearly full container and all the braziers and the forge lit up like my house was about to burn down.

not noticing any type of new fire effect, but i may just not notice the difference. where did it say there was a new effect?

definitely no added lag for me, in fact the lag seems even better than normal. i'm running in the highest settings but i only have one large forge in my house.

There was nothing posted anywhere about a new fire effect, but it's there - for me anyways, and obviously I don't care for it :(

EC seems to handle houses terribly as it is. i don't doubt you're having issues with house-related lag. fire effect or not.

This is in the Enhanced Client (as you can see in the title of the thread ;))

Several screenshots I took of this happening, infact every time I took a screenshot the intensity of the effect increased. So that proves that it actually isn't container lag but lag period that causes it. (my client freezes for a split second when taking a screenshot)

The far left image is normal or near normal (obviously).
It definitely looks really cool for sure, but it just adds on to the lag I already have, which is no fun at all.

No problem, I'd absolutely love it if it was a regular effect and didn't cause me more lag.

i put idle animation on and i think i am starting the see the effect. it might look better at night but it's still day. no lag for me though, still only one forge.

i like how there's smoke when you click the bellows.

@ Frodo, This is not the billows effect, the billows effect is completely different.

@ Storm, I had just re-placed it to show what was happening, it was deeded and in a container - as I said above I had to remove all the braziers and the forge as deco to prevent crippling lag. Axing it a 3rd time would do no good.

@ Anna, I do have idle animations on, all settings on high. (It would be redundant for me to put all settings on low, I've tested and get the same amount of lag) I have NOT tested this bug with idle animations turned off, I'll test that out.

Edit: tested idle animations, nothing changed.
Edit 2: Even more interesting; changing the particle settings to Low for particle detail and None for particle filter had absolutely no effect on this either.

That's really weird. None of my forges are doing that in any of my houses. My shoppe has six forges on the ground floor and another one on the second floor. I'm not experiencing that effect at all.

Very strange.

By the way, Grimm, I know you're lurking, if you have any comments, suggestions, questions or ideas on the situation, feel free to speak... (assuming you are free to speak lol)

not sure if this will help but i had some problems with house lag a while back and messed around with my cache settings and that helped a lot ....

Tried half, 1/4, 0, on cache, no effect. I run @ 1024 normally. Lowering it usually makes things worse.

Think yourself lucky you get a particle effect. Tested this last night (I dont use EC but was intrigued) and when I played around with the forge I double clicked and it did the bellows thing then the forge vanished

That happens to my forges in the EC sometimes. They're still there. It's a graphics glitch.

Oh i know its still there, a recall and back makes it reappear. Though I have noticed another little oddity that includes EC and CC. If I click the most southerly end of the forge I get the brighter look from the bellows effect. If i click the northern end its like I'm turning off the light for a few seconds.

I noticed tonight at an EM event that trying to open more than one corpse put severe lag on my computer...

And locked up my pc. I had to shut down UO and relaunch it.

Posting again with the CC/EC bug (?) that causes half the forge to go dark.

Left image is from clicking the north end of the forge - the rest goes dark.

Middle image is the south end of the forge - working as it should

Right image is the normal image
