Hear Ye One and All!

Let it be known that many new High Seas ship's Captains are as yet unfamiliar with ship security. Therefore I took it upon myself, and let me assure you at high risk of severe sea sickness, to investigate and test security upon all floating vessels found throughout the lands... errr... seas.

It was noticed that several unsavory fishermen, fish mongers and alchemical type gargoyle characters were loitering around your boats and "casing the joint" so to speak. They have the look of untrustworthy souls. So I double checked all gangplanks and mooring lines to ensure that the ships and boats were found to be secure. When in doubt, I boarded these same ships and boats (mind you, at great personal risk) and secured what goods I could before these cretins absconded with your properties.

Further, seeing as how your boats and ships were not secured against stowaways and illegal boarding, I floated these same vessels some ways off shore to minimize the risk of boarding. Also, what cargo could be removed has been safely stored in a chest to prevent pilfering. Many cannons were found to be irresponsibly left fully loaded and primed and were secured for safety, and removed to be repaired at my shop. Oh and sorry, but your fish seemed to have rotted somewhat, being dead and smelly, and was left behind.

It is to your benefit and the safety of sailors around Sosaria, that you learn to properly secure your gangplanks, weapons and cargo. Please note, that you may retrieve your cargo and weapons at my house upon proof of ownership.

Items available for claim with proper ID, include in no particular order:
80 Lobster Traps
1 Lava Lobster Trap
8 Lava Fishing Poles
1 Row Boat
14 Heavy Cannons
194 Heavy Cannon Balls
40 Light Cannon Balls
120 Heavy Grape Shot
25 Light Grape Shot
110 Matches
12 Swabs
10 Ramrods
72 Heavy Powder Charges
46 Light Powder Charges
132 Fuse Cords
89 Black Powder
500 Leather
250 Spined Leather
300 Horned Leather
1514 Yards of Cloth
2752 Ingots
22,700 Gold

Further, please contact me in advance should you wish your ship's security tested in the future... this recent activity has made me a very busy and exhausted man.

Thank you.

All around the Floating Emporium are these wharf rats who sail around in small boats, just checking every galleon they come across. It's surprising how many folks still haven't set their ship security settings. It doesn't take a moment, folks.

RATS! WHARF RATS! I'll have you know that it was out of the goodness of my heart that I went out of my way to demonstrate to these good people why security is important. Rats indeed!

And, this was just Skara Brae, Jhelom and Brit docks, not the floating docks.

Ungrateful people.

Quite a profit you've made! I once forgot to secure my own ship and fell foul of some enterprising "scouts". Fortunately, they were only able to acquire a couple of light cannons!

And this is why I always double check my security settings before going anywhere :)

Is the do-gooder title available in UO? What are the odds someone actually reads this thread and bothers to claim the garbage they had in their ship? Ever think it wasn't secure because they don't care about worthless trash?

I wondered when I first saw the security settings why they did not default to the highest instead of the lowest glad i checked mine though!

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I sure do appreciate all the time they saved me making those cannon charges... and the gold is a pretty nice little trash, too! I mean... I am just storing it for them.

Say, Jax-boy... if you have any worthless trash like that laying around, just let me know and I'll help you dispose of it.

I'm guessing the OP found his method to be more entertaining, isn't that what this game is all about?

The highest and safest security setting is with all 3 options (Public, Party and Guild..) set on DENY ACCESS, is that correct ?

Honestly, I don't understand the security.

I set my guild to officer and party to crew and public to deny access and no one in my party or guild or guild party can board my vessel unless I change the public access to passenger.

I have switched around the party membership modifies access a little, but for the life of me cannot understand this and what it does.

I tried the public access set to N/A, but found a bag removed the first day and my boat moved so that wasn't it.

Honestly, the developers either have no clue how to code and use logic 'OR' and 'AND' or even 'XOR'. The logic behind the security setting seems obvious, but doesn't work the way the developers think.

On the other hand it is likely just me.

It's not just you. The Developers made it way too complicated. We already had a security system with houses that players understand well. This should have been used rather than creating a new system that doesn't seem logical.

I had mine set for the Public being passengers for a while, because I had nothing of value in my hold, other than fish, and was practically HOPING someone would take some of the 10,000 stone of fish off my hands (Not like I parked at the FE docks longer than it took to get a quest and buy traps, and stayed offshore everywhere else). Not to mention, my deck was starting to look like the showroom of an Athlete's Foot store. As the ship is purely my fishing vessel, it had no need for cannon, nore any of the supplies for them. And, I don't think I'd care if any repair supplies were lost (I've only got 300k in various shades of tailor reward cloth at home, plus lesser amounts of wood) - but then, I don't sail anywhere near pirates, either.

Now, when the ability to make and bust commodity deeds goes live in the next update, security goes up, because then it would be too easy to carry off all those fish.

I have been moving ships left around our already over crowded sea market by instructing the tiller man to take the ship further out to see before jumping back to my own ship.

SEE! Now THAT is being considerate and a genuine public service by making parking spaces for other boats.
