Thinking of switching

The sims online (which is no more I know) has no longer become fun for me. I know many of you out there feel the same. I have been playing this game off and on for over 5 years and what we are going through is tough. I have been thinking the same thing most of you have... why pay for a game that is in Beta? Every time a fix comes out, more problem show up. It is becoming harder and harder to justify to myself to pay $9.99 a month to a game that is no longer fun.

Now, I know what everyone is thinking. If we all walk away and go to a free account, the game will go away since the dev team will fail at making this game profitable. I hate to say it, but a game that is not in playable shape right now is not something that people should pay for. I love this game and always will but when the frustrations outway the enjoyment, I think it is time to pack it in and hope for the best.

I think this post is mostly for me to vent a bit and possibly stave off cancelling my account but it is also something to show the dev team that players are getting upset with everthing that is going on. I am not one of these who say "DEV TEAM!!! WHAT'S GOING ON???". But, I know they are on here from time to time and I hope they just read this.

Same here. I am getting frustrated. We have 5 accounts and have been playing for 5 years. seems to be a waste of time, money and effort on it when we can not enjoy it. I am just venting also. it would be nice to hear a response.. like.. I am sorry Rpsky3, we were able to look into this for you and found your homes and missing items. or something.. (i know that is asking a miracle.. but i can hope!) lol

I agree hun. I hardly play anymore either - because of the game instability, the changes that are whimsically implemented that appear to be driven by Luc's mood that day, the old dull & boring 2D graphics, the socialistic-style of economic governing, as well as the lack of player control - the game just isn't 'doing it' for me anymore.. I'm also not playing because we just adopted a 7 week old puppy and hubby & I have had no sleep the last few days, and we just bought a new house and are moving in June, so life's been hectic lately lol... Yep - I plan on getting rid of a majority of my accounts, rares, etc., since there's no use in continuing paying a subscription for a game that is unfortunately no longer fun and stimulating... Believe me, I wish it still was, since I'm a die-hard simmer.. but think I'll probably go back to playing Sims 2 - at least there I have total creative and economic control, and the graphics are a helluvalot better lol....

Every day I ask myself why I haven't pulled the plug. It comes down to sentimentality. I've been a member of the community so long it seems weird to delete my connections.

My frustration with the lava lamp game has put the frosting on the cake. The game is obviously being crafted for the power users, or at least for people who have much more time to spend in game than I do. If we don't have the time to hustle all the game pieces oh boy -- we get a nonfunctioning white lamp. A white lava lamp is as close as a kick in the teeth as one can get for a founder gift! ("Here. Your participation is appreciated. I am giving you this boring white lamp that does nothing. Enjoy. Wasn't it fun to play?")

It is also clear that my decision to support Test Center by having all of my best migrate to TC3-- which I did after conferring with devs in the Pub -- was really stupid. In all the years I've played. not only did Test Center get to test the game features, but in all ways Test Center had the same opportunity and identical game play to the production cities. TC3 is a ghetto. New features (the periodic skill rate increases, for instance) bypass TC3, and the Lava Game is just another example. I never minded that Test Center was often quiet -- in many ways it suited me! -- and I had no idea that TC3 would be so different from EA Land.

The emphasis on money has turned me off, as well. I have done the job tracks and money houses until I'm sick of them. This game is more a drudgery than anything else. I have a casino -- what fun we always had! I will never have enough money to offer cash prizes again. I had thought of running non-gambling games, as I used to do, but meh, unless I can miraculously find more hours to play I will never have enough money to award even small prizes.

The fact that TC3 is a neglected city, paired with the problems you and others have highlighted, and my own lack of time to invest heavily in playing, are pushing me closer to the exit each day. Ennui prevents me from taking the final step, but soon...soon.

If there is a game anyone wants to recommend to me, send me a PM. I'm out there looking for a new 'home.'

I love change as much as the rest of us here. For years nothing changed in this game. Now that it is, I am very excited. By the way, did you miss the part in my post where I stated i was venting? Is it wrong if we are not all happy go lucky little cheerleaders for the game? I am finally realizing what I read in a post is absolutely correct. Mind you, this is from memory so I may not quote it quite right but, "If you aren't a cheerleader for the game, no one listens to you.".

, and the fact that there are so many of them now its gonna be hard for you to avoid them all the time...

This game was pure stress when i was paying for it but now i am a free player i just play for an hour or so every other day....the game is getting repetative and boring.....

Switch to free and you will be glad you did

It is not so much the fact that we have to constantly read opinions of people who are unhappy that bothers me. It's the fact that you feel "everyone" is thinking the same. This is totally untrue. I suspect it is your circle of friends that are unhappy. Or perhaps misery loves company so you seek out others that are just as unhappy as you are.

I am still having a great time playing the game and find I get money's worth of entertainment.

As for the "many" that you keep finding that are unhappy, I can find you just as many that are happy.

This post has no constructive criticism or ideas to improve game play. If you have no idea what it is you need to make yourself happy then it is time for you take a break.

Duncan, I can understand the frustration, believe me I can.....but you hit the nail on the head. If everybody just cancels their subscription, converting to a free account, then eventually *nobody* will have a game to play, so if nothing else if I were in your shoes I'd be reticent to close my account because of that reason alone. I would suggest to you a brief break, where you don't *close* your account, but maybe just not log in for a week or so, finding other interests in the meantime....stuff that is free if you can't afford to subscribe to anything else while keeping your EAL subscription current. Club Pogo has 5 day and I think even a 2 week free trial, and then is only $40 for an entire year's subscription, and that is what I do alot while my sims are skilling. I really think if you diversify your interests for a little while you can stave off this case of burnout because it doesn't seem like you are deeply burnt out, just getting a little restless, so that would be my advice. Nothing says we have to log in the game for 8 hours a day, or even have to log in the game at all each day to keep our account(s) current.

1. Fix the log in issues so everyone who wants to play can. I know this hasn't happened for alot of people, but I still hear some who can't log in.

2. Fix the lag. Again, we know why it is happening now. AV was merging. But, giving people a heads up would have been a good thing. I have a feeling most people would have understood. But not knowing has landed us to this point.

3. Lava Card Game. Give a game that everyone (paying accounts) can take part in. Now you see them-Now you don't game cards are not good. I never got my game cards for the 2nd round and I have given up.

4. Balance the economy. Job tracks are fine for making money (Bot factory seems the best so far) but lowering jam payouts to $10 is not good. Take into account the price of land and items in game are way over priced... it would make anyone discouraged.

These are things that have been talked about repeatedly here but no resolution or even a hint that these issues are on their list to be looked at. I appreciate everything the dev team has done so far... but they are also only human. Mistakes can and will be made. I just want to see some kind of statement that they know these issues exsist and they are looking into it.

<font color=blue>The majority of login issues are caused by players themselves not launching game properly or getting most recent updates when bypassing the game lauch icon located in their TSOpatch folders. Anytime there is and update in process whether it be hardware or new version of the game eveyrone runs to scream and yell about not being able to login. Too many people try to login when the city is not even active. I believe the dev team has worked very hard on the network to resolve login issues where they can. They have even posted </font color=blue>Known Login Issues <font color=blue>on the official website.</font color=blue>

The problem lies in the way these arguements are presented and/or received.

We have a tendency to try to trivialize those opinions (and, by extension, the poster) with which we don't agree.
Sarcasm, ridicule, and other derisive commentary can turn a perfectly legitimate complaint or compliment into a war of words.

If we want to stop the blatant "naysaying" and "cheerleading", then we must learn to respect the opinions of others instead of finding fault with every syllable they type.

No one is holding a gun to anyone's head.

If players can not tolerate the 'work in progress', then I respect their right to decide to quit until the game is more fully complete.

I don't know about anyone else, but I really would like to say what I'd like to...but I'm better than that. It's not the 'cheerleaders' fault if you are not happy with the game.

I'm happy with the game and where it is in development. That's MY opinion. MY opinion is important to me and so I'll just keep playing and keep enjoying.

I guess you can go to a Free account! I'm pretty sure TSO/EA Land has been saved from the dreaded cancellation we all feared, At least for now.

If you play on a free account at least you can still play and maybe decide to subscribe again when EA Land becomes more stable.

Why can't people post their 'opinions' without attaching some kind of derogatory statement about others...like..."those cheerleaders....yada yada yada..."

I could more readily intelligently discuss things without having already had my opinions discounted just because I would fall into the 'cheerleader' mode simply because I choose to overlook the 'obvious' problems and just try to enjoy the game as much as I can?

Let me tell you a long story:

A year ago, I had my doubts. I have had my ups and downs with this game. I actually had my favorite sim LOST for over 6 months. LOST during a botched move, part of my programming was stuck in FF the other in AV. I couldn't get anyone to help me and I was to the point of hanking my credit card payments....over 1 missing sim. (It was one of my faves!) (Delete it and start over? NO WAY!!! I'd quit first. I decided to be patient and just keep plugging away.)

Parizad came along and said if I was patient, she'd see if she could get a dev to help me. And after a few weeks, a dev came along and saved my sim. (I'll always love that Dev!)

My main problem at the beginning with all this was 'information'. I wanted information. What was the future? What were the plans? What would we have saved? Etc.

I was a true 'thorne' in the side from the day Luc landed here and started talking of 'changing' the game. I just wanted to know that there was some reason to stick with the game.

Over time, intentions have been made very clear and information is actually in abundance. We have unequalled access to devs unlike any other online game in history.

And now that we are nearing completion of Stage 2...(and probably the toughest state) merging the cities....even though there are problems, I'm more confident than ever that the product being created is something I want to be a part of.

And thus I stay.

Others may not be able to content with the changes. So be it, maybe they need to step back and let it go. Why in the world would someone play a game that is nothing but source of annoyance for them?

Speaking as a long time gamer, more than as a TSO fan, I do not feel *anyone* should cling to a game they no longer enjoy....whether it is on line or off, free or paid. The gaming world is *huge*, with countless possibilities for play, everything from Pogo to WoW, SL to Toontown.....and I won't even try to cover all the options in offline PC and console play........no one should feel stuck with just what is on their computer at the moment, even if they have been playing it for 5 years.

That being said.....I don't really think this is about what game to play or pay for, as much as it is about battle fatigue with all the upheaval and uncertainty, including the most dreaded thing of all.....change in game play.

If you are looking for reassurance that others feel the same stress, I think you can take it as a given....we are *all* feeling the stress.

But not everyone wants to deal with it by having a good pancake session.....some want to deal with it by having a good cry or a good laugh or a good fight......and that seems to be where the ugliest flame wars begin on this forum, when we turn on each other for not sharing our way of handling the situation.

Instead of making it about the stress......we make it about 'cheerleaders' and 'complainers'....and beat each other bloody over labels.

So yeah, my best advice, is go play a different game....take a break and decide if this one, has anything left to offer you, after you have put a little time and distance between yourself and the stress.

While saying that though, you have to point the finger also at yourself. If you were doing that with this post, then I agree with you 247%, because that is something we all (yes including myself here) have been guilty of....sometimes even seeing a posters name and discounting it is derivitive dribble before we even read it, and then responding as if it was that without even giving credit that the poster does have valid points. We've all seen that happen here, and we've all been guilty of it at least once during our posting tenure. It is definitely something that I know I need to work hard at not doing.

I have posted that it is getting frustrating and that i get to the point that i want to cancel my 5 accounts. I AM entitled to state my own opinion, just like everyone else on the boards. The boards, as I was stating in my previous post, is for anyone to post good or bad. We can come here and post a bug, a problem or something good. I did not once attack you or name call you or anything. I was a "cheerleader" for BV.. along with some of the best of them. We lost that battle, played until we could no longer play with the bugs in the game. But I was just stating how much trouble I have been having with the game since they made EALand and started the merging. This is the place to post such things. If anyone does not like it, then don't read it. It is a post about the problems in the game, you chose to jump in and try to make us change our minds and be more positive about it. You want me to be positive.. fine.. I am positive that this game is not going so well for me and my sim..

I guess I can agree with you there. The laughs and cries don't bother me so much....this *is* a loss and therefore *will* be a grieving process for every single one of us that were around the *old* way long enough to get used to it, but its just very hard and draining to read SO many of the 'pancakes and fighting' ways of coping, particularly the fighting. I don't see how anything constructive can come from fighting with each other, hurling sarcastic comments instead of just not commenting and stuff like that....I don't see how that is cathartic to help ANYBODY get through their grieving process, where I can see how laughing about it, and crying about it both could be cathartic. We all feel better sometimes after a good cry.....sometimes even finding out that we had more pent up than we thought we did. Same goes with laughter.....laughter is the best medicine. But how does making someone else around you (the collective you) as miserable as you are somehow make you feel better? It makes me feel WORSE when I know that I have inadvertently hurt somebody else's feelings with my words or actions, so I guess I just don't understand how that can be therapeutic or cathartic in anyway.

The Simmy's never worked as designed or intended, in any of the two-three years I played, but they were coveted anyway. Will a lava lamp do the same? It's unknown to me without seeing one, but the thing better be two stories tall and stand out like a sore thumb on a crowded property to retain much merit, IMO.

I cancelled my subscription today, just before coming to the boards. Those of you who new me back in my TSO days can certainly comment to my creativity, and level of enojoyment Diana and I shared for this game,and also provided to this game. The last week or so that I have spent looking around EA Land, does not imbue into me some righteous feeling that things in EA Land are going to be much, if any, different than they were in any TSO city. Those who have the cash to purchase whatever dollar commodity is determined will still have an advantage over those who do not. The only measure of difference there is who is recieving the real dollar profit.

You can pay for a month of membership, skill your lil simmy behind off, cancel your paid subscription and retain the skill with locks. Do that for two months and the second month just work the job tracks or objects that you have maxed. The third month you build your home, cancel your paid subscription, then sit back and play the game.

My ultimate point is this; the game mechanic, in itself has not changed. This pattern of play in the past created millionaire sims, in EA Land it will create the new 'millionaire' avatar, in that what was once worth a million, is worth a hundred thousand. The gameplay hasn't changed, and as long as the flawed mechanic is in place, the game will remain static. I personally have never purchased a simolean from any third party, and absolutely will not purchase one from EA, but there <u>will</u> be those who do. There will always be those whom have more than the other, and in a year this Land will be the same as the cities that came before.

I cancelled my subscription today for that reason. I have been there, and done that, and found in it a lack of enjoyment to suit <u>my</u> style of gameplay. It was not for me.

This game mechanic was never hard to figure out, those that will/can use all the benefits it offers will always be around, and those who can't/won't will continue to have their overall enjoyment decreased.

I can still play for free, but doubt that I will.

The bottom line being this, no one can determine what you enjoy, only you can make that decision, if EA Land isn't it, then maybe it is time you looked around. If you enjoyed TSO then you will enjoy EA Land. Change always comes at the sacrifice of something, and in an electronic world where the slightest change to line # 6578 of the code effects lines 70100 thru 75000, we should expect some rough patches of change. (There is nothing different with the problems being experienced here than what a player would experience in any on-line game out today going thru a change).

Well, for one. Beta is "what's going on." I understand this is a venting post, but I am tired of the whining. You may call me a Cheerleader, but atleast I am positive about the game I pay for. The Devs understand the frustration of the players, have you thought about their frustration? They have to fix these bugs and when people complain about how awful it is, it doesn't help much. I have learned this from Lee. We are all a community, we all have to work through this together and keep in mind we are still in Beta.

[/ QUOTE ]That is very true; however, this isn't a problem unique to EA-Land. This is true of every goal-oriented MMORPG, and something that EA-Land, Lineage, Everquest, Ultima Online, etc. all have in common: Those that have the time and/or money will always have an advantage over those who don't.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not in-game all that often. These days, I'm doing good being able to spend an hour or two a few times a week. Because of this, I don't torture myself over goals I know I cannot reasonably reach. I log on to play around with the other sims and have fun. I'm the one who is sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories on a busy skill lot. I'm the one putting on the Spanish costume dress and sombrero and dancing around in money houses. I'm the reason nobody puts rocket launchers indoors anymore.

The point is, if everyone would just reconcile their goals with the realities of their lives (how much time they can spend in game), I think we'd have far, far fewer disenchanted players clogging the forums with "hey look at me - I'm not happy and I'm taking my toys and going home" threads.

I can't afford to eat filet mignon every night. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying hot dogs and Top Ramen. I know what I can afford, and I don't beat myself up over what I can't. The same goes with how much time I can afford to spend in game.

Me thinks you focus on the negative so much. To the point where you are taking people to task for insults like "cheerleader" who haven't even used the insult against you.

For the life of me, I do not understand either side here.

If you don't like "cheerleaders", pass their posts over or put them on ignore, and if you don't like "whiners" pass over their posts or put them on ignore.

The problem here isn't the whiners and cheerleaders. The problem here are those who focus on those two types of poster more than is healthy. Those who apparently think they are entitled to try and force others to see things their way or to STFU.

enjoy the card game and

custom content is great. just can't wait to see what else they will think of next.
