Thinking of Returning.

Hail everyone.

After countless hours spent in Eve Online, LOTRO, and well, many many other MMO's, I've been thinking about returning home. I originally started playing UO back in 1999, and would be on again off again for over 10 years(I have a bad case of MMOADD.) I'm thinking it's time to settle down and rather than play a game, become part of a community and just have fun doing whatever I want to do. What better game than UO?

There's only one problem. I've made several accounts, mainly for alt use, or to let someone play the trial and if they liked it, I was willing to pay for them. When I log in to the account manager, all of these accounts are listed.

I last played last year, and instead of using my already completed character, I made a new one. I could have sworn I made a new account for him, but I'm not sure.

I guess to make a long story short(too late) is there any way I can call EA/Mythic and have them look at the characters and last log in time for the accounts? The Account Management only displays the date created

Having to start over wouldn't be such a problem because I do enjoy the work of building my character, but playing over the years, I have accumulated millions of gold, and gear, which when I played last year, I just transferred it all over to my new character. Again I'm almost certain I made a new account for the character last year, but only one account is listed as being "Retail." The other accounts say "Trial."

Any who, just wondering if there's a way to find my character from last year.

There is a Return to Britannia planned to begin "soon" and will last for about 30 days. During this time, inactive accounts become active and can play for free with a few restrictions, such as can't place a house. That should give you a chance to review all your characters on different accounts. Once you decide which you want, you can pay the subscription to activate it.

I recall that years back there was a UO official web site where one could find all existing characters on a given shard by name, it was time back and cannot remember the details.... does it still exist ?

I think you're talking about "MyUo" which doesn't exist, but has been stated it'll be brought back eventually.

However, it only showed characters who logged in within 30 days of your search.

Luckily I remembered the name of the character I was using. Now I have to hope that I can call support, give them the name, and they can give me the account used. They should be able to pull it up hopefully. I had one account that was suspended for two days, and in the email, it listed the account AND the character name. Apparently the name of the character was slang, which I was not aware of lol. So I know they have to have a database of accounts and corresponding characters.

Hopefully this narrows it down and makes it easier. Call/email with the character name, and ask for the account it's under, then bam, I'm back in.

Worst case scenario, I have to start all over with a new character. Really, losing the gear is all I'm concerned about. Years of work to get everything would suck, but, it it what it is.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you can't get that info without providing a lot more information than you've indicated, e.g. full name, last credit card used, last credit card used.

I would also hope that as a matter of need-to-know security, your standard billing rep can't see character names. That's just not information they need. The e-mail you received could have listed the character's name because of a GM's note.

Oh believe me, I'm sure I will need to provide personal information. The card I previously used has since expired but I know at least the last 4 digits, the billing address, name, etc.

Generally they SHOULD have access to this information. Everything you do with your account in anything is usually saved. I had a similar issue in LOTRO. After a robbery I had to unsubscribe for roughly a year. When I got a new computer and logged back in I couldn't find my character. I figured it was deleted but after a call to support, and providing proof I was the account owner, they found my character on ANOTHER account. I was logging into my alt account the entire time, forgetting I had another account.

For security reasons, I've got all the information I need to provide to prove I am the account owner. I've already emailed support, and gave them my last month of play on the account.

I guess I could wait until the Return to Britannia promotion, and skim through every account I have until I find it.

As I said, it's about need-to-know. Why would someone in billing need that access? Even if it's to recover an account, knowing a character is no evidence of ownership.

Now, account support is something different, but with UO that's a different group, and e-mail only as far as I know.

Right, but I've never said I was specifically looking for the Billing Department. Billing department and Account management are two separate things. It's more of a customer service issue I have rather than Billing. I'm not a subscribed customer so Billing in no way can help me.

I'm well aware that I will need to prove I am the account holder by providing personal name, address, billing address, card used(at least the last 4 digits.) And I definitely hope everyone else is aware of that. My question was simply to ask if anyone knows if EA/Mythic can/will be able to look this up. Just because I had this issue successfully resolved in a separate game, doesn't mean EA/Mythic will be able to resolve it, or want to.

I know, but since you mentioned phone contact, that would be the billing reps (who can help with certain things even if there's no active subscription). Now with how EA's split responsibilities between them and account support, well, hopefully there's a reasonable way you can prove you are who you are, and a reasonably high standard they'll require. But this is the first I've heard of someone giving a character name and asking which account it's on.

Well like you stated before, it does require more than just, "Heeeey, yeeeeah, I used to play a year ago but can't remember which account my character was on. Here's the character name."

lol, if I heard of someone actually obtaining said information with just THIS, I'd take all of my billing information down and find a new game.

I now see where your point is coming from. When I said "Call EA" I really meant just contact them, primarily through email. That was bad wording on my choice. I was just being simple, and wasn't expecting anyone to take it more technical. No offense to you at all, because I'm pretty much the exact same way lol.

Atlantic. Ever since 1999, Atlantic has been my home. I have made characters on other shards. Back when I first started(I was 13) I randomly picked a shard, not knowing that each shard was designed for various parts of the world and their time zones.

Regardless of whether or not I can get this character recovered, I'd like to stay in Atlantic. The gear and the gold I had would be rough to replace easily. Hunter's Headdress, Crimson Cincture, Runed Beetle Carapace, and a lot of really good gear to help my ABC Wraith. Maybe everything I had is easier to come by these days(especially what named items I had,) and the gear could just be imbued now.

I've emailed support and provided the most information I could give them. Guess now we wait and see. Due to things going on, I don't want to use my card for a bunch of accounts, just to hunt down a character. Unless I find it on the first try, it's just a waste of money.

Zog, don't be surprised by anything they do. Many years ago, when I first started playing UO, I bought an account on eBay (back when they allowed the sale of such items). I happily played this account for several years, as well as starting two other accounts myself. I logged on one evening on my second account to find a character from my first account rifling through the chests in my Malas house. Freaking out, I immediately banned the character from the house. Almost immediately ANOTHER character from that account showed up, so I cleared my co-owners list. Come to find out that the original owner of the account, who had apparently left the game for WoW, had decided to return. Now he claimed the account had been hacked and stolen, gave them his old credit card information, and EA/Mythic, in their infinite wisdom, reset the password and gave him the account, even though I'd been paying for the account for probably five years at that time. I called and got the account frozen, but it took over a month, and a LOT of hassle, including them telling me they may just permanently freeze the account, before I received that account back. I never trust them anymore in the account management/billing department. Perhaps Broadsword will be better, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Experiences such as yours is what prompted EA to institute a system to verify (for a price) any legitimate account ownership transfer. Thereafter, if an account was sold using the approved system, it couldn't be reclaimed later by the seller aka original owner.

Sadly it's a different computer. The entire thing got ruined when my little nephew accidentally spilled a drink onto the entire tower.

Also, I could never get into the EC. Even when the 3D client first came out, I stuck with the Classic. Hell, to this day I sill use the old MIDI files, just converted to MP3. However I believe that even with the CC, it still keeps track of your accounts in the User Data folder.

Yes, I know. I just thought it was worth mentioning since the situation described by the poster is not something that can happen these days (as far as I know).

I know of a similar situation. My daughter sold her account long ago on ebay. A few years later she decided she wanted to play again. She intended to offer to buy her original account back but couldn't find the person she had sold it to, so she decided to call EA to see if they could put her in touch with the guy who had bought it. The person she spoke with checked (she still had all the account info), and he informed her that the account was inactive and unpaid and had been so for quite some time. He asked her if she wanted it back and she said sure. It wasn't a happy reunion with her old characters, though. Much had changed... including her favorite mage, which had become red. Anyway, she quit again and has no time for it these days. And no doubt EA would not be so accommodating today.

I would go with the retail account since trail accounts do not last to where you can build characters up, and accumulate millions of gold, and gear. Since you have not mentioned looking under features so I will mention under features tab shows you what accounts are flagged trail or retail you scroll down the boxed list. good luck

Argh, did that thief steal anything substantial? EA's inconsistency is really disturbing. I've heard that ownership has been determined by the credit card used for at least the last few months. Presumably that's to prevent someone from stealing a login, entering a new credit card, then claiming to have bought the account. It doesn't sound like EA has any formal policies, though, and there's always the incompetent phone rep who wouldn't follow the policy anyway. What kind of a story did that idiot at EA swallow to give the account back?

Well, EA should not have done that, then or now. Fortunately that player didn't appear to want to return, but for all we know, he might want to this coming RTB. Maybe he did try to return already, contacting EA Billing himself only to find out they couldn't help him. By all rights it was still his account.

That was incredibly poor security on EA's part, when you think about it. What could she have provided but the account name? The billing info would have been too old, especially since she acknowledged she sold the account. The e-mail address on file would have been different. That's too much of an opening into what Aibal experienced.

Well I was going to ask if you still had access to the HD the file on uo assist keeps a file of character names and server theey are on. Per account Name.
So I opt before you even try the phone route which I have heard is long gone... Mesanna did say the end of may RtB would begin. If you know your passwords and account names wait and do the shuffle and find the right account. Welcome back btw,

No. It was truly a lucky situation. I happened to get on my second account, and logged in to see the character in my second house (it's a sick feeling seeing YOUR character controlled by someone else). He was transferring things from chests there to my Keep held by the other account. He got some stuff moved before I banned all co-owners. He had already undone co-owners on my keep so I couldn't get into it to retrieve any items. The sick feeling in my stomach was the fact that he had control of most of my assets. That first account held the most developed and kitted characters, keep, rares, the tamer with my best (and rarest) pets, most of my gold, etc. etc. Fortunately, I called EA immediately, got a service rep who froze the account, and a friend of mine was talking to him at my keep and got him to log off to check another character, at which point he could not get back on. Another lucky score with the service rep, as they were literally in their last ten minutes of work before quitting time, at which point it would have been the next day before I could do anything.

Then began the emails back and forth, over a 4-5 week period, at which time they stated that because of the dispute, they couldn't tell who's account it was, and they might freeze it permanently. I actually got to a level 4-5 person on the phone to get it straightened out, but I didn't get THAT far before threatening to get a lawyer involved because EA, by THEIR own policy, stated that my having the current credit card on file, for several YEARS made me the owner. They finally unfroze the account and gave it back to me. If I had lost that account I would have left the game. The sad thing was that it had to get that far in the first place......

It was a definite mistake on the part of the person she spoke to at EA. And I agree that regardless of how the account was sold (it was before they instituted their safe method of transfer) it should have remained in the possession of the buyer. I think situations such as this illustrate how security has improved, in spite of how much we all hate the new account management system for other reasons.

I am officially back. I was sitting around last night and the account I used just suddenly popped in my head. Never heard from support, but I did email them to let them know I got it all figured out. Think I might even give the EC a whirl, but I'm sure I'll be sticking with the CC.

Sad to see Atlantic is as quiet as it is right now. Perhaps it's just the time. Regardless, I intend on staying this time around. Just sad to see my favorite MMO so quiet.

The General Chat is a good help to look out for hunting buddies.
Just turn it on when you log into UO, setting it up for General Chat (there is more chats available and players can even create their own...), and to write just need to use the "," comma key.

By the way, when you try out the Enhanced Client try it out together with Pinco's UIs (there is a Forum on Stratics with all details about them...), they are quite handy....
