Thinking about making a character here

I would not say I am moving here becuase I am happy on my production shard but at the same time I would like to Siege as something different. I am really intrigued by the ruleset and the fact that it is hard to make money compared to the production shards. I have a few questions though.

1. I know that I am going to be killed quite often. How do you effectivly train skills inbetween dying?

2. With no item insurance, how do you become a decent player while not going broke. I will probably do more dying than the average player as I am not very good at PvP though I would like to learn.

3. How do you get the start-up money to buy things you need to start?

When I first started playing in 2000, I was hopelessly lost for the first couple of months until I met a person who helped me understand skill gains and how to use a crafter to make money to be able to equip another character to actually play. I took the 10k I had and invested in boards and started carpentry and would sell what I made to the vendors to be able to but more wood and keep going. Then once I gm'd I would vendor stuff to earn money. It is my understanding that the NPC's don't buy things like they do on production shards. So how does one start out? If I start a character on here, I want to be as self-sufficient as I can as far as money and gear and what not. I would rather have honest answers that offers to get me started. I do not mean to be rude but I believe in this: "Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime."

Thanks!

Start off with 50 taming, 50 imbue. Sheer sheep for bandies, you should be able to make your self an lrc suit with imbue and be able to unravel the low end crap you will be hunting. 50 tame will allow you to pvm a little quicker; grab yourself 5 wolfs or bears and get to it; imbuing helps here as well as you can add plus tame to your jewels easily. I would also be working hide, stealth, and ninja. You will need to create plus ninja jewels as well atsome point as you can not buy skills here and you need like 20 or 25 start the skill.

NPCs do not buy things. You can make a little cash from running escorts as well.

(about 5 posts down it mentions the NEW guild...useful infoz there ;p)

NEW guild site is at http://www.siegeperilous.net/new/index.php

NEW will help you get on your feet during your first month or so, until you find a guild of your own..

They are a great bunch and will help out with whatever you need, and whatever template you want to play.

Generally, people won't attack players who bare the NEW tag, so you get a slight reprieve from the active PvP scene on Siege :)

Welcome to Siege!

1. You don't die THAT often. Most people in NEW that I talk to die about once a week to a murderer. So very easy to train in-between. Just stay away from the frequented areas by murderers (Luna, blighted grove) and you'll be fine.

2. With no item insurance, the quality of items people utilize are far below that of what prodo shards use. Most of my characters still run around in basic GM armour. Which is also why crafters are in high demand. We constantly replace our stuff.

3. If you're going crafter, don't really need start up money. Grab a pickaxe, dig up your ingots. Start shearing sheep and you've got cloth for tailoring. Need to make gold, since NPCs here do not sell resources like cloth, people buy up cloth very frequently. The cloth trade is very lucrative as bolts of cloth sell for 400-500 gold each. If you really work at it, in 2 weeks just by shearing sheep, you could have 1 mil in gold, your own 18x18 home, and money to decently equip your characters. The economy is harder in the way it requires you to interact with others to really make your gold.

Not sure what template you will be chosing but you really don't need that much gold to get started. At 50's you can kill skeletons pretty easily and they give what, 10-15 gold each? Kill a hundred and you have your first 1,000-1,500 gold, plus probably some crap to wear. Then once you get into the 70s in skills, kill lizardmen, better gold, and sell the spined leather for about 40-50 gold a piece. Once you can sell your first lot of say 1,000 spined leather, you've got 40k-50k gold, enough for a low end weapon and lots of GM leather suits and you're pretty much set from there on out.
