As I've just recently returned to UO and transferred over to Atlantic from Sonoma, I'm trying to relearn the game, get a footing with gear and skills, and find a proper guild

I DID acquire a Tram tower right next to the Yew gate, so I have a base, but my red is homeless and my bank is empty.

I guess if I am going to stay here I need to acquire a transfer token, do you have to use them on the shard you are coming from or can it be done from either?

Welcome to Atlantic. Spend a little time around New-Haven as that is where many of the recruiting guilds tend to hang out and it is a good place to start making friends.

As to transfer tokens, they must be used on the originating shard.

Originally hailing from the Land of the Knee-Walking Turkeys, the Bob family crossed over the Gallowine River into Sosoria disguised as itinerant grave robbers back when Felucca was sparsely populated by reds speeding around on dial-up. They immediately set themselves to setting up toll booths on the Kings highways and sending the King threatening & suggestive letters.

The salacious nature of these missives caught the eye of Princess Tang, who poutedly demanded of her father that he, "Get me one of those guys!" Much foot-stomping & temper tantrums ensued until the King relented. Unfortunately, the Kings' soldiers only managed to capture the slowest and least suspecting of the Bob family, a young man known as Dead.

...wait. I've said too much already. We'll skip the courtship as more informative of peccadillos than befits a family forum. Obviously, the King decided I was unsuited to rule a Principality and granted me a retail clerkship instead. But thanks to my personal habits of working hard and keeping extensive blackmail notes, I am now co-owner of the Book Store.
