The "What would be the problem if..." thread

This is the thread for small things in the game which irritate you, and which have no good reason for existing. Stuff that's been around for years and most people barely notice anymore. For example...

* What would be the problem if I could use honor on an enemy that has already taken damage? Not being able to get perfection on an enemy because it cast strength on itself as soon as it spawned is just irritating.

* What would be the problem if more than one person could honor an enemy? I can't think of any other situation in the game where only 1 person in a group is allowed to use an ability on a boss.

* What would be the problem if we got rid of opposition groups for slayers? Do I really need to eat 90 point hits from fire demons in the abyss because I dared to try using an elemental slayer on the elementals? This was always a lame mechanic.

Keep it to simple things. No "What would be the problem if they implemented my 40-page proposal for a pet-breeding system?" or stuff like that.

- Wish they'd finally fix the Zealot of Khaldun Knight and Summoner loot tables. Now, when you kill them in their final form, they just have skeletal knight / mage loot instead of their actual Zealot loot table. This is pre-AoS, so 7 years and running.

- Wish they'd fix the party health bars in the classic client from messing up when a new player joins or someone in the party leaves, all the bars suddenly get stuck on top of eachother. I guess everone's gotten used to it.

Wait a minute. I thought this was gotten rid of. Can someone who really knows let us know? :fight:

You DO take extra damage from mobs if you hold/wear a slayer of their opposing group.

Timeouts longer than 10 seconds on skill or item usage. I think they fixed most of them in the past year or two, but every once in a while I get one it seems. Mostly this affects those mis-targetting or changing their mind in the middle of a crafting action.

Costs/purchase prices of most npc items have no bearing on anything at all. At the very least they should be repriced based on their components, though I'd like all items to have some base price actually based on their components and attributes. I had liked the route they were going with commodity pricing until folks had to go break the system.

IT was deactivated with AoS.

It was RE-activated with Mondain's Legacy.

I had to retire my newbie-paladin-quest Undead/Repond double slayer, as a result.

how about leaving the white tubs in

and just trying to make the game a little less complex ?

What would be the problem if they dropped a publicly useable white cloth dye tub in the Luna/Brit/whatever tailor shop of every shard? :D

What would be the problem if a player could never receive more than 200 base damage (60 damage at 70 resist) in any one hit? AFAIK health-based fire breath already works this way, so that paragon dragons and such don't one-shot anymore.

What would be the problem if a slayer would kill a monster with one hit? Why all the hassle with dangerous fights?

Sorry, couldn't help being cynical. ;)

Getting one-shotted because monsters need to do 453985398 damage or tamers won't have to vet enough to feel "challenged" is bullcrap.

I'd like magery damages to be brought in line with other combat skills.

Its getting annoying to be a 120 Magery, 120 Eval Init, 100 Inscrip, 50+ SDI mage using a slayer and doing 20-40 damage with an ebolt or a flamestrike. Especially while I hear friends titter in Vent about 190+ damage armor ignores going off in quick sucession.

Most of the new monsters, especially EM event and high-level abyss spawn) all seem to be geared towards melee chars and leave the mages out in the cold.

Only having TWO cold based spells (both of which SUCK) isn't much of a help either.

Magery needs a serious balance pass.

1. Made GM worth something again.
2. Eliminated player stamina drop when nearing death, this wasn't always like this.
3. Eliminated increased speed movement when close to death for monsters.
4. Eliminated the increased (25-30%?) monster dci when they are close to death.
5. Made monsters follow the same casting rules as players, not spam 6(or more) spells like a machine gun.
6. Eliminated most trash in loot (or loot table review).
7. Increased packy weight capacity.
8. Had Higher ore combining in backpack.
9. Had above GM skills benefit as a bonus, not a norm
10. Gave our tames paragon speed in following us

Agree, double-tap casting is simply poor game mechanics.

Mobs casting (ahem...Liches/Lich lords and the occassional Orc Mage) Flamestrike-Flamestrike in less time that it took you to read this is simply exceptionally substandard game mechanics.

As long as they also put one in a nonfaction town in Fel.

Agreed. At least you can get them untangled, though, if you hold down the Alt key while you drag the bars apart from each other.

1 People complaining about things in a 13 year old 2d game. hehe, joking, kinda

2 The new "events" that people go to only to get an item to sell for millions of gold.

3 The potion / enhance potion system (especially after imbuing)

4 PVP magery; one of the first classes in the game cant kill ****e without necro or mysticism. IMO just increase pvp sdi increase cap

5 Faction points system. -ive always said this could easily be fixed without revamping factions entirely by simply reseting points every couple weeks, and not being able to transfer points.

6 Super Dragons

7 monster loot weapons not able to have max imbue weight, making them worthless

8 Not enough incentive to pvm in fel. Could be easily solved with double or triple arty and essence drop (if abyss were put into fel also) Would revitalize fel for those other than miners / lumberjacks.

No. Too vague. I want specific mechanical changes. I want the sort of changes someone could theoretically code and test in an hour.

Not "Make GM meaningful again!" and "Make people PVM in Felucca!" and "Make candy taste as good as it did when I was six!"

Look at the stuff in my OP. Most of it has to do with changing things that could be expressed in a single line of logic.

Whatever bit of code states "If target health < max health then honorable = false" should go away!

That's a suggestion. Simple and explicitly direct. My purpose with this thread is to farm simple quality-of-life enhancements that would make players happy AND would not require any substantial development resources. Because someone who knows has told me they read everything on this forum.

I agree with the "force monsters to play the same game we do" response.

That's the biggest thing that annoys me in ANY video game; when the developers run out of ideas and just beef up or allow the antagonists to do things you can't, without a recourse, instead of actually coding strategy and thought.

As for other fixies:

The long standing stack limit. Which they then added to commodity deeds. Why not make commodity deeds go up to 1 million and allow us to add/subtract from them? We know they have 1M gold checks, so we know they can code numbers above 65536.

Pretty much no new story content IN GAME. Instead we get new books that have nothing to do with the history of the past 13 years or any of the major events we've had. Why aren't there hundreds of little books describing: player towns (who cares if they are different shards, it's a story); major events; journals from important characters; news blurbs from the old BNN turned into books.... Their response would probably be that the players can do that --- but it is helpful for players to have an outside arbiter of what is "real" history. I keep being very disappointed that we have to read about things outside of the game for 90%+ of the content added.

QUOTED FROM ABOVE:

What you want and get are very different on open forums.

Additionally, this was you OP.

"This is the thread for small things in the game which irritate you, and which have no good reason for existing. Stuff that's been around for years and most people barely notice anymore."

People have done exactly that.

I recommend you either be entirely more specific in future posts or accept peoples responses as they (correctly) reply.

So to you I write; "No. (OP) Too vague."

you need to take an sql or database class before you say things like this.

a 16 bit small unsigned integer has a ceiling of 65,535 which equals to 216 − 1
a 16 bit small signed integer allows for − 32,768 to 32,767,

when you create a table in a database you general have to set the data type that the individual members will be. Once this is done you are out of options on changing the data size other then unloading the table removing the existing table and redefining the table. Now while this might not seem like a big deal consider the fact that every item in uo has to have some database entry somewhere, thats millions upon millions of records and tables you would have to pull apart to do that. Even such a small change costs tons of man hours and cash.

Yeah, keep posting worthless garbage like "Gosh, wouldn't it be nice if there weren't any bugs?" and "Hey developers, figure out some sort of way to make GM skills meaningful, once you figure out what I even mean by that!" I'm sure their eyes don't just glaze over when they see that sort of crap.
