The shape of things to come?.

I am still struggling to come to terms with the full import of a sentence in the latest Producers letter, namely 'Last but not least, I am sure everyone has seen an increase in the decay rate of items on the ground, houses, and boats. This is due to a fix we had to put in for a shard crash.

Now as the effects of this 'fix' started to become apparent to some of us shortly after the last patch (Aug 6th) the results of this accelerated decay have been with us for a full week before anyone thinks to let us know?. Surely the introduction of a change of this significant nature warranted some notice to us, the players who would be affected by it?. I am not personally aware of any player who suffered a significant loss but it seems reasonable that some players did, or maybe still will be as it is still with us.

And what about the players who do not use, know about, or read the forums? Until this letter was posted they would have been unaware for a full week of things which might cause them to lose items in various ways.

It would almost seem that the intent was to alienate the player base because if it had been it would have been remarkably successful, It has been said many times that information is the bedrock of good customer relations and lack of it injurious to them.
Ever since I started playing UO we have suffered from a distinct lack of communication. At times it actually improved and it seemed there was light at the end of the tunnel, but it was never sustained.

So we are left with this almost throwaway remark to satisfy the 100 odd posts about the shields, idocs and other associated items made during the last week. Despite one bearing the heading ' *DEVS - Can someone PLEASE explain what is going on with IDOCS' obtaining zero response and ultimately being answered with the sentence from the letter I have quoted. Is this the future?. Can we expect more major unannounced changes to the game? If it is and there are we are surely hastening to the point where we will hear 'Will the last player to leave please turn out the lights'.

I was kinda wondering about that as well. There were people on siege who DID lose their homes to this unspoken change. One of which was lucky enough to have just one person loot their stuff and they got it all back, but I heard of someone else who was not as lucky.

I really believe, it was a mistake, they did not think about players moving house. It really don't matter if it take 1 or 5 days to decay, 3 month after a player stopped paying his account unless you abuse the system with only paying once each 3 month.
To stop the ones only paying for 3 months a year, remove the access to the house after 30 days and put a warning on when you access the house after the payment run out. This way, vendor owner and others with stuff in house, have 30 days to move it. Then the house will still stay for 60 days more but can't be accessed. This way it will people who get a temperery credit card problem, so they do not lose the house but can't be abused of players paying for a second house 3 month a year.

One things for sure, every unprofessional "oops" and "im sorry, too bad, maybe next time or soon" from mesanna and the dev team causes players to lose overall faith in the game as a solid gaming experience. players leave over initial actual losses, and after enough of these oversights and unprofessional, amateur blunders many vets will realize their money just isnt paying for even the basics anymore.

um the ones that lost a house are the ones that pay every 90 days, sorry NO sympathy. Also if you used to place items on the round then change chars / accounts and hope to be able to pick them up before someone comes along or they decay also NO sympathy there are my better safer ways to move items around. NOW if you where actually moving your house or trying to resize it and lost stuff well yeah this really sucks and you have my sympathy :-(

As for a warning that items might decay faster or house decay is going to take a hit yeah that could have been given , but again if you where taking advantage of a system or rolling the dice, well guese what you came up 7 :)

Sad, but on most shards now you can do that at the banks safely :(
