The Serpent in the Fog

Glorfindel

Adventurer
UNLEASHED
Dusk is where the world begins to say goodnight. Where the hues grow deeper often in gold and orange but even purple, red and grey. The hue's intensitys give way to the blackness and the drops of pearl in the sky and below in the trees the gentle evening breezes of summer. The Ranger's edge is that dusk is the way to begin. To track a human or a beast it requires great concentration, stanima and complete understanding of the environment. To track a human one must take detailed notes of everything of potential significance. If spoor is found, move from target or sign to sign that you find. If no spoor is found move to rougher terrain until it appears. Consider the patterns of behavior the target would display. Observe what is not quite right with the environment what is out of context such as broken or bent green branches or brush moved aside. Look for rocks that have been overturned, broken spider webs. Be watchful of the spoor of animals, they often will rush away from a human moving through. A woman's step is lighter then a man's but also a man running would leave more space in between and the toe will be much deeper. Look for soil that has been thrown about by the bottoms of shoes or boots. An experinced tracker can learn so much by the heelstrike and pushoff of a target, their speed their gait. The Ranger's edge is that this is how you track a human. It is an entirely different thing to track this class of Kuge, as in "Sekke" and he knew this only from the monk's description of the insignia on his sash. His "studies" he called it as a young man in Makato Jima were finally paying off in some strange way he laughed to himself, his mercurial father would have mocked him over it without hesitation.

Lanthrael wrapped his worn brown cloak and hood tightly around him as he left northern Britain. For him to retrace the thief's path would require intense focus and concentration. Moving through Britain and then the Salty Dog. A host of patrons there donning steel tunics and blue cloaks hearing he was a traveler from Yew spouted off a great deal of horrific accusations about past Yew lords and the like. Truly awful schemes that perhaps he as the Captain of Yew would need to give serious attention. He would listen to the stories told in his youth from his father about the days of old in Yew. The stories of knights and rangers, empires and armies clashing. The endless faceless armies of the undead, the chilling screams of orc hordes laying waste to farms and crops, burning homesteads as they pillaged. That is why he came to Yew instead of Skara Brae like his father, he wanted to seek his own standing within the great City of Justice. But these accusations against Yew must wait for a time. If he could not gain any ground by dawn he might likely not catch this thief or come close to even knowing his direction. He left quickly and out into the dark eastern part of the city. It was quiet this late. He moved slowly retracing what he knew and could read and out onto the Great Northern Road and nothing. Standing looking out onto the dark open road ahead there was no hint no trace. The Ranger's edge was lost.
