The Problem With Casca

Let us explore a hypothetical situation: You make your way through the dungeon of Rebus to save Casca. You run past the undead, and then past the daemons and balrons, shouting passwords as you go. You then run up the stairs and discover that someone has lured a paragon ogre lord and a paragon troglodyte into the entrance hall. Immediately upon your entrance these two fearsome creatures kill you in one mighty, combined blow. You then make your way down to Casca's prison where someone is nice enough to resurrect you. You then requip yourself, acquire the note from Casca, and discover that some of your belongings remained on your corpse.

You then head back upstairs and attempt to reacquire your belongings. You fail. The paragon ogre lord loots something from your second corpse. You make your way back down to Casca where someone again resurrects you. It is now that you discover that the note from Casca is not blessed, because it is the object that the paragon ogre lord looted from your body.

You attempt numerous times to retrieve it, but short of finding some way of committing genocide against the entire dungeon, it is not going to happen. You then wait until the next day, quite certain that the server merely needs to reset, deleting the note, and the paragon ogre lord that holds it, and allowing you to claim it again. You return to Casca the next day, and again attempt to claim the note from him. You discover that you are boned.

In short: This is not a hypothetical situation.

All one can do when he or she dies in the rooms is to abandon their corpse.

Therefore, we cannot carry anything of value with us during this dangerous journey.

Fortunately, even if you have only one character on your account, you can make new ones and run down to claim another 5 notes. So, all is not lost. I managed to make it unscathed with a 76hp character wearing a 60s resist suit. Bring a greater cure potion....

You might also be comforted to hear that the note is now blessed, so that others will not experience this same frustration.

Good to hear the notes are to be blessed now,

I took over 15 characters down there.... and many of them made it through unscathed..... which totally boggles my mind.... especially my very wimpy mage who barely has the magery to get off an invis..... baffles my mind.... but a good warrior I have in an all 70's suit died instantly..... how weird is that?????

being on dial up I make it to the first nasty monsters room and my game freezes and i'm dead...thank god there are people standing to rez you at the end or i'd never make it though to get any points. One ALichLord is hard enough but 3 or 5 and a paragon on top...thats just insane.

In case anyone is interested I discovered yesterday that you can complete the quest even if dead.

Just say "help", you get the note then use the "I'm stuck" option to escape with the note. That way you can enter the fortress carrying nothing so you lose nothing, plus it allows non-combat characters to complete with ease and you don't need any one to rez you at the end.

When you rez the note will stay on you and you can claim your prize.
