The Perfect Catch 22

This morning we encountered scripting or other illegal behavior at an IDOC. Before my husband's and mine astonished eyes, objects and chests began flying through the air and across the screen and vanishing. No one but our characters were visible on the screen. There was a another character visible previously--but they had vanished while this was happening. Now I know if you are hiding and grabbing things you become visible. Plus things were flying from different parts of the screen, so someone has obviously mastered the art of being in several places at once or grown 18 by 18 tentacles.

Now I am pretty fast at grabbing things--but not only was the invisible person faster, they were grabbing for more than 1 person could carry.

And since they had no packies how did they haul off all of this loot?

When we reported this, the GM said we need a target.

Well how can we report an invisible target??

Other people at IDOCs have reported similar events and unresponsive GMs.

The perfect scam. Officer I would like to report a crime--but the perpetrator was invisible.

And yes I do know that I won't get everything at an IDOC. But this was a bit much

sorry, but doesnt sound like a script to me at all. You can stay invis and grab stuff all day long. The only time it makes you visible is when you loot something off a corpse. But picking stuff up off the ground or even out off chests on the ground does not reveal you. You could have been surounded by 20 stealtheers and simply not known it. I always attend IDOCs on my stealther.

One of the options when reporting is to select from a list of nearby players. Of course this does not work if there are multiple unknown people at the IDOC.

Maybe--but picking things up lifts them up--it does not make them fly from one end of the screen to another. And there was also the little issue of weight.

umm so there were several hidden people there? seriously if your paging gms over this stuff no wonder they take so long, objects will fly across the screen when hidden people change equipment and what you saw was probably this or several people hidden while you stood there thinking omg cheats instead of getting what you could!

As stated you can be hidden and pick things up all day long. It doesn't reveal you.

Also sometimes because of a glitch in the game, when people sort through things or pick things up and move them (even from their banks) it appears to be "flying through the air"

Please for the LOVE OF GOD people... stop assuming everyone is cheating!

PS. Any IDOCer worth his weight does it on a stealther. A dozen people standing around a house kinda tips off non idocers to the fact that the house is going to fall.

If I go to an idoc in fel I go on my stealther.

And yes, whenever you sort stuff or loot items and can easily appear as items floating in air. It's not uncommon to see this happening at the bank when someone is sorting through a lot of items.

I agree with others who say that stuff flies through the air sometimes. I also notice the stuff moving really fast.

There were probably a bunch of hidden people there. You can grab stuff, fill water pitchers, and tend plants whil hidden.

We all know you can pick stuff up, tend plants, scribe, etc while hidden.
But don't discount this story too quickly, we also all know there are a lot of hinky things going on ingame. Stuff moving in air, sure no problem. Across screen? Sounds kinda odd and worth a look if you can get anyone to listen.

Just my thoughts

Is this what UO has come to? Blame everything on scripting without even knowing the basic rules of gameplay? Yes you can grab things and remain hidden. You can craft and remain hidden, you can even move and remain hidden, It's called Stealth, look it up sometime, it's on the skill list.

Items moving through the air and across the screen is common when hidden people pickup objects, visible people too in crowded areas. It's the clients way of handling heavy item transfers in a small area. If you did peerless in big groups and such you'd see this as a common occurrence.

You can pick up an place down as much stuff as you want in stealth. you only reveal when you loot a corpse.

This is why this board is full of whiners... everything is always scripting here. cant explain it due to a lack of knowledge of simple game mechanics = OMG someone is scripting.

Easily discounted. game mechanics. across the screen means move ment of different positions of hidden character or of the one observing it across the screen. As The items fell in the floor at different locations hiden character must move in order to get them all. Bag of sending to grab all the items.

OP jump to conclusions and seems like a player that needs more time playing other aspect in the game and learn more about mechanics and the game itself other than playstyle he plays before making accusations and tying up GM time.

There is a way to move everything across the screen at once. Place and then cancel a house.

This piles everything under the house sign.

If you were at the other end of the property it would appear that everything disappeared.

I don't get the Title, oh, and to be silly like the other posters that didn't read the entire thread before replying, You can lift items while hidden. :mf_prop:

You can only drag 1 item per second in this game. If someone hasnt found a way around that, dragging stuff from ground to ur backpack is atleast as fast as using a script...

When someone is actively moving items they can be seen falling from top center screen to player. When the less then honest program moves items they fall at an angle from top left to center. Best example was when the fletcher quest was hot and loads players there. The players that didn't take the exact same path everytime handled objects fell verticle. Those on the rail objects went across screen.

The cloak is another dead giveaway when someone is on the rail. After the player stops moving it hangs in the air for a bit before falling to back.

Personally, I think that IDOCs should happen randomly without the House sign displaying anything, and, the code should be such that nowhere in the data stream it could be detected that a House has fallen anywhere. Noone should know it, period.

Bottom line is, I think that only those who bump into a fallen house by accident should be able to loot it. No more warnings, no more data stream to detect fallen houses, nothing of such any longer.

Only random bumping into it by chance and sheer accident.

What do you mean data stream to detect houses? So when will the owner know or his friend know when his house is about to fall?

Exactly... Popps please just shh. The system is designed for the house owner, not really for IDOCs.

The script kiddies use that, just run thru the area until they hear the beep, idoc logged. Faster than clicking on signs
