The Papua Enigma

Peregrin raised his tankard to toast his six companions. "Tonight we celebrate the discovery of the century and profit for all!" Peregrin smiled at Allen, the butcher's son. Allen ignored Peregrin and the other merchants as he sat nervously at the end of the table cleaning his fingernails with a dagger.

Peregrin cast a greedy glance at his prize, a heavy iron chest lined with lead, as he sipped at his ale. Smirking at his drunken companions, Peregrin yelled, "More ale now!" The rattan doors of the Inn shattered as they were suddenly torn off their hinges.

A deafening inhuman hiss echoed through the Papua Inn followed by screams. Allen shut his eyes and forced himself to stay still as blood splattered over him. Allen heard the sound of bone and flesh being ripped apart by sharp teeth and gnarled hands. Then Allen heard the sound of the heavy iron chest being dragged across the log floor and into the soft dirt outside. When he was certain the creature had returned to the swamp, Allen opened his eyes. Peregrin and his companions were dead.

Note: The Mayor of Papua is asking for hunters and detectives to help him track down the creature that attacked the Papua Inn and killed the merchants. Meeting place Bank of Papua, Trammel on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 7:00 PM EST.

How did this event go? Did detectives get anything exciting to do?

I have the EM site and the Stratics EM forum on my RSS feed, and this feed doesn't always update. I just saw this when I hit "Reload Live Bookmark" on Firefox. What am i doing wrong?

Not sure why it didn't update for you; I do know that Eris has the next part scheduled for next Saturday at 7:00 PM EST; it is on the calender.

I make it a point to check the boards and the EM site, and time and time again, I end up missing the notices. That's two sites right there.
I see now you want an email list. Ok, I'll bite. But what if I don't really check the emails on Sat or Sunday?
What's next? Facebook? Twitter?
I'm just one person... imagine the thousands that don't know to check for this stuff. And, no, word of mouth is not ideal.

It's EA/M's fault. They really need to fix the login screen to let the EM's advertise the upcoming events PER SHARD. As you skim the shards, have an event notice next to them. Otherwise, the EM's are beating their heads against the wall

The turn out was relatively small given Atlantic is the most populated shard.

A. I believe the vast majority of the player base does not read Stratics and even fewer venture from UHall onto shard specific and even fewer check the EM site.

The glowing lanterns, etc. strategically placed about in advance that say time & place of events w/web address seem to work best imho.

B. Also on the topic of communications - I've opted to turn my Help & General Chatter OFF as it's gotten cluttered with juvenile smack for the most part - which is sad cause I think there was good opportunity to provide help to those in need - I just can't deal anymore with the perceived 97% crap in between real needs opportunity of 3%.

My small circle of friends who play & other casual acquaintances I talk to really never read Stratics Forums or have been to the UOEM site & keep Chat off.

The small turnout is no surprise considering I am one that DOES read stratics and checks the EM sites/forums and still miss these messages.
The strategic lanterns that the EM's place are fail. Some lanterns are there way past the event, therefore I do not bother checking.

Suggestions:
1)If there was a town crier at the banks that the EM's can place that bark out messages about the events then that would get attention.
2)At login screen, as you hover mouse over the shards, have a tooltip of events pop up.
3)Announce these things on the UOHerald so that people that cancelled their accounts can check the main site for In Game Events. Might even encourage someone to reactivate to partake.
