The Nearly Perfect Storm (Part Four)

S

Salty Pete

Guest
Three years ago...

His belly was full and his head was spinning from too much drink but his heart was full of joy at seeing his old friends again after a long time at sea. Salty Pete whistled a merry sea shanty as he made his way back to the Vesper dock to look over his latest vessel the newly christened Dirty Orc Too. It was then when Salty started to smell the tell tale signs of an approaching storm.

It was also at that time when old Salty first heard the distinctive sound of a voice crying out for help. Salty knew that sound carried over the ocean and this person could easily be far enough out to sea that they would only be reachable by boat. Salty wasn't big on thinking, but he was a firm believer in following his gut and his gut told him to run to his ship and get under way. Someone out there needed help.

The Dirty Orc Too was off the dock and out to sea in a blink of an old sailor's good eye.

The present...

Salty had been searching the cool dark fog for that voice he thought he had heard for what seemed like only minutes. As the fog cleared Salty was greeted by the sight of bright daylight. Salty rubbed his eyes trying to make sense of what he was seeing. The sun shouldn't be up for another 6 hours by his count.

"Salty Pete!" The woman's voice called. Salty scanned the shoreline and saw a woman mounted on an ethereal horse waving to him. "Long time no see." She said as he pulled within proper hailing distance.

"How long?" He asked suddenly very seriously.

She looked at him with confused stare and then answered, "What, three or four years?"

Salty Pete's mouth dropped open.

To be continued...
