The Incubator: A Pet Rez Idea

Responding to an earlier thread about npc pet rezzes, I had an idea. Of course, like most half-baked ideas that happen right after a terrible night at work, it grew into a monster.

How about we introduce a house add-on for rezzing pets? In my sleep-starved, work-addled brain, this has become an idea that could benefit a number of character professions.

I was thinking it could be some sort of an incubator. Lore-wise, incubators were first used by both the ancient egyptians and chinese, and the idea was adopted in the 12th century in western europe; thus, such a device could concievably be present in uo's setting. And like early and modern incubators, such a device would require advanced skill and sophisticated ingredients both to use and to operate.

First off, it would be craftable, and require a number of rare ingredients, much like the current hitching post replica. I thought it would be best as a tinkered item, both as it is a machine and there will be glass included. The ingredients could range from relatively mundane-- like power crystals and clockwork assemblies-- to truly exotic-- like animal pheremones (again) and maybe a unique type of sea glass obtained by fishing-- and would require the input of several different professions. And that would just be to construct it.

Once you have an incubator should require a few things to make it work. First it would need "medecine" to heal the pet, maybe a potion craftable by an alchemist. Second, it would have to be "programmed" by a vet. Both of these could be rpe-arranged by the owner, if they're smart, and each of these would have to be done every time its used. And finally, it would take time for the machine to do its job, the amount of time determined by the skill of the alchemist who made the medecine and the skill of the vet who programmed the machine.

Because creating the incubator would require the efforts of players from a variety of disciplines, it would stimulate the player economy at least and encourage player interaction at best. It would create a better market for tinkers, alchemists, fishermen (who would enjoy the added benefit of finally having another consumable to retrieve) and any others involved in procuring the ingredients and components. Making it necessary for someone with vetting to program the machine will mean that people will still have to either train up vet (without having to keep it on their char) or find vets to pre-program. Basing the time for rezzing on the skill of the vet means that evena low-level character, if they're patient, could use the machine. Rezzing on your own or finding someone to rez for you will always be preferable because it is instant and less labor-intensive, , but people could still get a rez in a pinch, if they planned ahead.

Reading all this, I really think its probably entirely too complicated. And the fact that I put so much thought into this is actually more of an embarrassment than a triumph, lol. But I'm bored n nobody's home and its late and work was rough, so I let my mind wander, as it usually does, into UO. =)

What do you think?

I like your idea, it's very creative! :)

Might be a bit complicated though.

Made me think of an idea too...a pet rez stone/bauble/trinket. It could be craftable by Tinkers with a bit of Animal Lore. Perhaps it would need to be charged with a Vet's healing potion. You would use up a certain number of charges for each kind of pet.

That could just be 'regular' pets or not...either is fine with me. I love rezzing other player's pets...sometimes I chill at the bank just for that purpose. :)

Sounds overly complicated.

How about we just let NPC veterinary's rez pets .... but with a 0.5 loss in pet skill points per rez as opposed to the 0.1 player rezzed skill loss? That way at least people will still look for a tamer to rez their pets before resorting to the NPC.

If you make it -0.5 instead of -0.1 it might lead to some very nerf'd pets.

Considering it will mainly be used by warriors for their swampie or samurai's for their hiryu's, and these guy dont train their pets anyway, I wouldnt take long for a swampie especially to be at 0/0/0/0 skills. I like to get my tamers to gm my pets before i transfer them.

I was thinking, make it cost alot, but my sampire can pull in 60k in 30mins, that wouldnt really tax me at all. And new players would be heavily penalised.

Maybe give it temporary stat loss for a time period similar to using the discord skill on it. This would make it harder to go back figting straight away perhaps (always more exciting anyways), but not penalise over time.

No. Go find a tamer :( We don't want people getting easy pet resses !
Who is this "we"? I dont recall being asked anything? Is we you and your guild? You and your friends? Who is "we"?

I have two accounts, tamers on each, so pet res isint a big deal to me, but I dont recall any kind of consensus or random poll from EA or players to ask me if I wanted npc resses. I even asked people in my guild, I assume they would be a part of "we", they never got asked how they feel.

So, who is "we" exactly?

Wow, relax.

If it makes you feel any better "we" is Seven and I. I enjoy helping other players out with pet rezzes. So when he said 'we' he was talking about himself and me.

Feel better now?

Well, when he said

No. We don't want people getting easy pet resses !
I kinda figured "we" would mean more than just him and one friend. Also, the tone in which I read it, insinuated that the "We" portion of that statement meant the "We" would get what they wanted.

Now that I know "We" is a wee two people, I know that the suggestions for easier pet resses for non-tamers is not written in stone as of yet.

Dont mind me, Im PMS'ing today.
