The good players of UO.

For the vast majority of my UO life, I stayed pretty much confined to Siege and Legends and maintained a shack on Atlantic for buying and selling trips. Just did not have much interest in the other shards. Then I started getting shard shields the first two one for Atlantic and One for Legends to eliminate the cost of buying transfers to go cross shard shopping.

So I kept collecting shields each year and tossing them in a box until I got the idea to start visiting these other shards. Since that time I have met some great folks on the other shards. On my latest excursion I opted to Pacific and a player here on stratics offered to help me out and asked if there was anything I needed. Since I am still about a week out from claiming a Pacific shield, I can't or rather won't transfer gold or gear. So I said a basic LRC suit would be great. I meet the player (And I won;t name him, if he wants to that is cool.) and he dumps a turn in mage suit and 10,000,000 gold on me. For the record I always consider things folks give me on a new shard as loans and either pay it back or pay it forward once I am set up.

The first thing I always do on a new shard is GM inscription, Which usually involves a couple of weeks of killing ettins in new haven, doing endless escorts and keeping the scrolls and regs bought up to 999 and after a month am usually 100 mage, eval and inscription. And of course looking for loot pieces with MI and LRC. Thanks to the loan from this player. I was able to buy a few key pieces for a scribe suit, rune beetle carapace and a compassions eye ring and place the 2 houses slotted for Pacific. Yeah the Tsuki Garden and the Vesper Ants LOL and decided to put a 3rd one up in the wind maze since the spot was open (What can I say I like small strategic house locations that offer training and resources right off the porch :) )

Instead of a month in Haven running escorts and killing ettins and buying scrolls and regs as I could afford them, I was able to buy up 80,000 scrolls, and 60k of each reg the first day and two days later hit 100 inscription. Why inscription? It is one of the most tedious and a skill I hate to train as well as being on the expensive side for a new character. But from 0-50 bought up and noob quest trained up, and then 50-100 scribed up I burned 42,000 scrolls (The fast way is to make spell books as soon as you can, it is not the efficient or cheap way :) ) The downside is my necro and mage are only 55 and 59. Inscription is handy as you can make the scrolls, runebooks, spell books and get a little more mojo with a mage. The Scribe suit I was able to put together with max MR and enough MI to bring me up to 220 mana and a decent amount of LMC will let me house train mage and necro up fast now. And while killing tsuki wolves with blade spirits is not real efficient......... They give enough good majors to start piecing together suits and jewels for the next character I will build a Melee T Hunter and enough scrolls left to get him to 95 Cart. LOL Lock picking is lock picking and there just ain't a fast way to GM it :) Well pinks but I am cheap Azz :)

Anyway on my travels to new lands and shards I have met some great folks that will go out of their way to help people new to their shard get set up and running. Particularly on LS, Chessy and now Pacific. I am sure there are decent folks on the other shards but one like Origin, GL and Atl I already had fully developed characters and a little bit of gold on, so it was not like starting fresh on them :) The only problem I am having on Pacific is it is on the edge of my lag zone and it is hit or miss if things will run great and smooth or choppy and slow.

What makes UO great has never been the Devs, the graphics, new content or the long list of other stuff people like to pancake in their strawberry pudding about.......... It has always been the communities on each shard and common love of the game in general. I find this sentiment the strongest on the lower population shards.

Yeah the last time someone asked for an LRC suit I logged onto my T-Hunter and gave them the sorc suit I was wearing...had to go get another one lol....but that's what we do right? It's just pixels after all and the gratitude of a would-be long term player and friend is far more valuable :)

Hehe the award for most helpful player has to go to Bealank :) Or rather that hole in her pack........ I have transferred some stuff that fell out of her pack to another player on Atl and think her packs generosity was overwhelming to the receiver. Legends is lucky to have such a fine person. Seen many others help out Cough like Vic ;) Larisa, Skett, Freja, Tanager, and others too many to list. There are indeed some real greedy A holes in the game and people that will take advantage.......But there are far more good and honest people, that like Larisa will give you the suit off their back to help out and then argue with you when you try to give them something in return ;)
