[Magery] the dreaded macros question

I have always played a dexxer, I'm ready to play a mage. macro set ups, yes I said it! I'm needing some advice for where to set the "main spells". Here is my template:
120 mage, eval, resist, med... 100 poison, inscribe. maxed at 710, last 30 points are not that important right now.

I have my fields so far on f1-f4, heals and cures set to 123 and to target self.
I'm not entirely cordinated enough to use the whole keyboard. I'm also struggling with the whole target next attack last target anything, lol. any help would be appreciated. alts and ctrl and shift, I would prefer not to have another button involved if I don't have to.

PvP or PvM?

PvP: move all your main spells onto your numeric keypad (harm, curse, poison, cure, heal, lightning.....)

Use UOAssist to target last and target self. IMHO its best o set the mouse wheel to target self/last.

PvM, it does not realy matter as long as you remember where each key is. That said you got to know your keypad inside out for both PvM & PvP. You need to be able to cast spells without looking at the keyboard that why teh numeric keypad is best.

I like my heals on the f1 row and shift alternatives for buffs + utilities;
below that i put my first circle spells; anything higher then 5th i usually have a shift alternative on a corresponding key for easy combos; last row is my field spells and a shift alternative for summons; it takes a lil while to get used to ; just gotta play around with it and learn what spells ur going to be most commonly be reaching for and put them into a comfortable location

I do not use F keys, I use 1-0, q-u, a-j, z-n and then Crt+ most of those keys. I am right handed so I can see a leftie having an advantage because I would def. use that little key pad if I could.

I think the most important thing for macros is to set up a flow. An example of what I mean by this is would be if you use explosion and energy bolt a lot for a combo, it would make sense to have these 2 keys close to each other. If you have f1 and then crt + c that seems like a far reach and just doesn't "flow". But if you did r and f keys are explosion and energy bolt that would make a combo go together smooth. I also try to group my differnt types of spells, all of my heals/cures/res's are in same area, all my summons in another, fields, etc etc.

I was never satisfied with macros until I got the following setup:

This is the mouse I use. It has 12 buttons on the left, two buttons on the top left by the left click button. The two on top I use as mount dismount, then the 12 on the side I use for consumables.

And I use...

I use the little button above the D pad and set it to control, so that doubles the amount of keys I have for boththe mouse buttons and the nostromo.

It took about 3 weeks to really get comfortable (I used regular keyboard macros for 11 years), but now I have buttons for EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. I'm talking macros for mana phasing orbs, talismans to remove curses, heal wands, bolas, teleport rings, macro to equip an invis item, conflags, invis pots, supernovas, shurikens, etc, etc.

Highly recommend if you've got a little extra cash to blow.

I was about to buy that mouse but I'm too thumb heavy when controling my mouse so I went with the imperator. I just imagined casting spells and then accidentally hitting a macro and messing everything up.

I almost bought that pad but keep debating.

(Really I only do that while running I'll usually do ALT + SHIFT + A and use evalint on a target to get it stored as my last target prior to casting, unless I've got a spell primed)

Same question here: there are many uo built-in macros related to Target. What is the definition of each?

All I want is this:
- When running around in a gang fight, with many people on the same screen
- I launch Fireball
- I click my mouse to launch UOA last target
- I want the spell to go to random enemy. HOW?

Assuming my LastTarget is no longer on my screen, I still want the spell to hit another enemy nearby, but dragging HP bar is not quite possible when running.

SelectNearest Hostile or Mobile? I tried and nothing happened. Spell didnt go off to mob.

Targeting is very easy with the mouse wheel...

For example I'm using:
Wheel Down -> target next
Central Mouse Button -> target nearest
CTRL + Wheel UP -> target current

Ctril and Ctrl+shift! for heals and pots!

you are crazy.. Although you are one of the few people i've seen like me that doesn't run "Target Self" on the mouse wheel down scroll (i have it in the center of my heal/cure macros)

Speaking of which... you know if they ever "fixed" the mouse wheel scrolling last target spam issue in the enhanced client? Just curious, haven't looked in months. From my talks with whatever dev it was working on it, we found that when you scrolled the wheel, it would register as "many clicks" so instead of going:

Explosion
mouse wheel scroll - last target
Flamestrike
mouse wheel scroll - last target

It would register as:

Explosion
mouse wheel scroll - last target
mouse wheel scroll - last target
mouse wheel scroll - last target
Flamestrike


Thus "spamming out". You would see the power words for flamestrike, but never get a cursor up.


I run most of my offense on my F keys/some on number keys. Heal is ` target self is 1 cure is 2 arch cure is 3, g-heal is q. etc... i run a similiar setup for dexers. i have alot of the "alt" macros on my logitech keyboards g-keys (cast spell trigger, stat pots, etc). Most of my wall/dispell/etc macros are on random letters on my keyboard. My pots are Alt+ z, x, c, v etc.



But honestly... macros.... while I would love to go with the setup lynk runs, I also realize that you could pretty much have macros all over the keyboard in no specific order and be just fine once you learned their locations.

I use legacy targetting in EC rather than hotbar targetting.
