or the cowardly mob to be exact. It 'seems to me' as if more and more things I'm fighting are turning into cowards once they get hit a couple times. We all know how a bad rat renown is, but the other Large rats do this too. Get way down on hitpoints and Off to the races they Go. Fire Ants are especially bad about this. Seems every time i turn around, I'm having to 'chase' the mob to finish it off, or grab a health-bar and click the crap out of it. Most of then get paragon+ speed as well, unlike Us who get frozen in place w/ that stupid HP/Stamina loss thing they instituted a while back.

Dragons used to just go airborn when they got low, permanently, until their HP went back up - this got fixed when people got tired of waiting to finish the battle.
Is it just me, and this is really a non-issue and working nicely?

and somewhat related, forgotten servants as an example - for a mob that carries no regs, no arcane spell items, and almost no scrolls, cast so many spells (all the normal stuff, plus 10 greater heals)? they have an Infinity of resources, until dead, then all that goes poof?

seems whether Mana or Resources, they should run out at some point?

throught the history of UO, most spell casters have not carried the accurate amount of regs to what spells they cast or skills they are using.

most monsters have always fled, but the things you are mentioning have abnormal health pools. the higher amount of HP on something you're fighting the sooner you will see them fleeing, as most monsters flee at about 20% of their total health.

some advice from personal experience in fighting the things you've mentioned:

  • summons work very nicely because they keep pursuing the monster.
  • being able to deal high amounts of damage, whether it be with enemy of one, slayer property, or just a simple talisman slayer type.
  • throwing or archery is extremely useful to avoid having to chase fleeing enemies
  • peacemaking, discord, and provoke help solve some of these issues as well.

I think we all know that monsters behavior and loot should be entirely reworked to make some sense nowadays. I seriously doubt they have enough resources to think of that (and maybe the system itself is limited in what they could do).

My problem is with magical creatures that spam greater heal when they get within a certain percentage of death. They can heal at almost precisely the same rate that you can deal damage, so you just sit there spinning your wheels for another 5-10 minutes longer than necessary.

It's not more challenging; I'm never in any more danger of dying from this. It's definitely not more fun. It's just an unnecessary waste of time.

pop a L6 map at the hedge maze Ancient Wyrms spawn. My digger is a work in progress. He will have a better suit in time. But the scenario is the same. Get the aw down to 12% or less and it spams GH and flies over the hedge row. Now my EV's and or RC's cant touch it. Now the rub is my mage can mana dump a bit but usually is out of mana right at that critical point.
I know its on me to improve the chr to make it ezier on myself. I wonder who on baja has seen the msg Rascal:AW at hedge maze plz help if you can. Its a challenge when I get 3 on the first spawn.

I hate forgotten servants. irritating waste of time. Lure em away, poison em over n over while the greater beats em down. too insistent to ignore, to repetitive to enjoy.

only time i like em is when they've killed like 6 fairy dragons n still have their gold.

off topic, but i just hate those fool things. just sayin

yes, and the ability to arch cure without being interrupted makes poisoning a bit useless against most of the PvM casters.

I still think it's funny that, in Ultima Online, when you target anything in aggression mode, it comes over and fights you.

Even chickens.

I don't know... it's what I do when I'm getting my butt handed to me!

Maybe it's just a bit more of a realistic UI feature? ;)

@anna anamalous -
I agree with that number being around 20 %, and I'm kinda cool with that, Except, Not when that 20%=1000+ HP. Those 35k hp mobs? - that's 7000 hp, and they're Running Away?
Most all my fighting toons are non-garg/mage/bard, specifically, dexxer - in your face, stand there and fight until you're dead. I don't have time to chase you all over the place, and won't - if you're really a monster, act like it.

since we know they're reading the boards, lets keep bringing up these oversights so as part of the dungeon revamp, at least some things will be fixed in that process.

and Golems. We've been told by Dev's several times the reason we can't do certain actions to them is because they are mindless mechanical devices w/ animate object cast on it. Besides bleeding, they run when near death and heal themselves, how would it even know, sensors and a PC in there?
