The Casual Plant Growers Guide

So you got a few plant seeds & you want to try your hand at growing plants without spending alot of time & effort. Thats great! I've had several guild mates ask me questions about the basics of plant growing so I thought I would post them here.
><
1st: You need seeds, you have a few of them or you would not be reading this. If by chanch you don't have seeds you can get them off Boglings & Bogthings they are kind of fun to kill. Boglings give 1 seed, Bogthings give 2 seeds, but they spawn boglings when hurt so go figure how many you can get.
><
2nd: Now you need "Plant Bowls". Nope not any old container will do you have to go to a provisioner & buy "Plant Bowls" they are really expensive at 2gp each.
><
3rd: Now you need dirt. Yeap the plant bowl's you bought are empty and plants can't grow in emptyness, they need dirt. Were the heck do you get dirt? Well you can go kill earth ele's & get fertile dirt which makes your plants grow faster. Or you can just walk away from the provisioner's shop & find a barren spot of land with no grass...yeap thats dirt...& thats what you need to fill your bowl's with, dirt. I myself use regular just off the road dirt as I don't want my plants growing to fast. I want time (as in 2 days) to think before I cross breed them.
><
4th: Double click the plant bowl then target the dirt & it fills the bowl. If it does not fill the bowl go farther away from town. I can get dirt in Brit right next to east bank so this should not be a problem.
><
5th: OK now you got a bowl of hard dirt & a seed. Dang you just can't plant that seed can you? Well ya gotta soften the dirt to plant the seed in it. Get a water pitcher and give the hard dirt 2 drinks. Then double click the seed & target the bowl of dirt. WHoo Hoo! Now the trouble begins!
><><
OK Now you can keep the plant in your backpack or lock it down in your home & it will begin growing & getting sick on you. if you put it in a locked down chest it will suspend it's growth, it will continue to grow in your bank box.
As soon as you have your seed planted in the bowl double click it & give it a Greater Strength potion. Yeap right after you plant it! It increases the plants H.P. & gives it a better chanch of making it. Every day when you log in check your growing plant, if it shows it has a g/strenght potion on it don't give it one, as soon as it shows no g/strenght potion give it one.
Ok so now you lock down your plant. The next day you check it right? It may or may not need water.
><><
On the right side tabs at the top is a water pitcher that's one of the most important things for plant growing! Most plants are killed by over-watering more then anything else, no kidding! The plant owner is the plants worst enemy. Look at it! It's the plants communication system to you! If the plant needs water it will ask for it by displaying a yellow or red (-) minus sign next to the water pitcher. IF it has a yellow or red (+) plus Sign next to the water pitcher the plant is OVER watered. Once a plant is over watered it will usually die. but not always.
><
Ok if it needs a drink give it one. It may also become infested or get a fungus in that case I recommand using the same plant healing tool I use. YOu can find it at:
http://www.uocraft.com/tools_garden_ts.php
I have never had this plant healing calc fail me. You'll notice that sent you to the home page & not directly to the plant healing calc. that's because they also have some other great resources.
><><
If you want to get into cross breeding & such then your more then the casual grower & are getting addicted to plant growing. Welcome aboard!

*stickies this post to the top* /php-bin/shared/images/icons/smile.gif

it's a great starter guide

only one thing I noticed that you might change:
<blockquote><hr>

if you put it in a bank box or locked down chest it will suspend it's growth.

<hr></blockquote>
Plants DO grow in bankboxes /php-bin/shared/images/icons/smile.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

*thinks this saying should be the gardener's motto*:
<blockquote><hr>

The plant owner is the plants worst enemy.

<hr></blockquote>
hahaha - I laughed so hard when I read that lol - because it's sooo true - I've tortured my poor plants (by accident I swear!) more than I can say hehehee

(ps: if anyone wants to add in any tips for new gardeners, feel free to reply to this post)

KittyKat you are correct! I changed the above post. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I also hope it helps the casual growers, not all are as addicted as we are LoL.

Why not add this post to the FAQ? (Which is long over due for updating and organization.)

Rock; This would be *much* easier to read if you added blank lines between paragraphs.

I agree completely /php-bin/shared/images/icons/smile.gif which is probably why I said the EXACT same thing in a post just a day ago or so *smiles*

<blockquote><hr>

Why not add this post to the FAQ?

<hr></blockquote>

I thought about it, but there are a couple of things stopping me.
First that FAQ is old and really needs to just be redone. I feel it's a waste to drop this down in an old faq where people have to dig through old data just to find good stuff, which also brings me to my second reason. I can't *edit* the old FAQ, only add a post to the bottom, which means, again, it'd get lost among the old stuff, and I'm sure you can agree it'd be a shame when this information is helpful to the casual gardener.

--------
In all seriousness, it is my intention by summer to have a new FAQ posted at the top of the forum. It's just a matter of covering the wealth of information that goes wtih gardening - quite time consuming lol.

<font color="purple"><center>ive been growing plants for some time now, but cross-breeding confuses the heck outta me, as i would love to have white plants, but cant seem to figure it out. is there a white seed quest by any chance?? </font>

No quest. The white and black seeds come up on a random number generator that is ... well, aggravating as heck for me, personally. I seem to get lots of black for some reason. I went a year getting black and then in early November I got four whites!! So, the only way is to just keep pollinating tons of plants. Tons and tons and tons of plants.
