but not a dread mare, as theyre insanely expensive.

im loathe to not use my Cu, but i cant use him with the GD. ive got a bonded mare from years back... will that do?

A GD is a 5 slot pet so you cant have any more with you, not even an ethy or a charger you have to walk :(

Oh he is ! he's way more powerful than a Cu.

But in some situations I still prefer my Cu, as you said, you can ride to safety and save your pet.
And to go to some dangerous places you can just run trough the mobs, when with a GD you have to fight your way trough them.

So it's a very very powerful pet but not always the best choice depending of where you want to go

JD that's a nice trick, thanks :)
Guess it's even easier when you have an ethy or a charger...

So problem solved when you can recall or summon pet in the location where you want to hunt.
Only problem left is when you cant do neither.

Area peace and spam all follow me should help i guess. And anyway a good full trained GD is well worth the difficulty in my opinion :)

Using ninjitsu forms you can walk/run at riding speed while using a GD (e.g. in Llama form)
Yet, you cannot cast spells while in ninjitsu form so there is a trade off.

There is a way to make your pet come to you without using a pet ball. Tell your pet to stay.
Travel to your desired location. Log out and log back in again. When you log in your pet will be with you. As far as I remember, this only works if you log in and out on the same sub-server as the pet is at.

If you need to bring your GD with you through an area full of spawn then tell your GD to "Stop" and the to "Follow me". This will put your pet in a passive mode where it will not defend itself when the spawn attacks it. As long as the pet does not get stuck it will follow you whereever you go. Just tell the pet to "Kill" or "Guard me" to make it defend against the spawn again.

Good advice from Kraken, I was just about to suggest many of the same things.

Being on foot for a tamer can be rough, especially if you do spawns and enter Fellucia. Everyone else is gonna be on horse and you'll be a sitting duck.

Some of the things I've thought of:

1) Race change token to Gargoyle so I can fly, naturally. Just can't ride CU any more to "keep it safe" until you need to use it. Another issue is the equipment - hard to get Gargoyle equipment and they can't use many of the arties you normally might. Still the tradeoff might be worth it.

2) Use Ninjitsu trained to 70 and add a bonus from items for llama form (horse speed). Skill points is the issue here - I run a necro mage tamer so it's a very tight fit, I just don't have the points without sacraficing elsewhere right now.

For tamers doing champ spawns on foot, i:

1) Buy Bolas in housing (must be on foot). They are cheap and you can dismount an opponent easily.

2) My PVP Pet attack macro does 3 things: All Stop, All Follow me, All Kill. I learned the hard way you need all 3. First thing, get the pet to stop fighting mobs. Then get pet to follow you out of wherever it is, and then tell pet to kill a target. This has been really effective for me. Even if the GD is slow, at least it forces a target to have to leave the area or they'll get fried.
