From Dan Bragg:

A team of avid Halo fans will be striving to raise as much money as possible for the Special Effect Charity in a multi-day online gaming event, as they work through the entirety of the Halo game series, all streamed, live.

Special Effect is a charity that is dedicated to helping disabled people enjoy gaming in a way that would not be possible without their support. Altering, developing, and adapting games aids people in hospitals, hospices, special schools and more to enhance their quality of life using technology.

“We’re dedicated to using technology to enhance the quality of life of people with disabilities.”

Haloathon is a battle of stamina as a group of gamers attempt to complete the campaigns of the six Halo games in the console series back-to-back. Every second of the event will be streamed live from 7pm BST on the event website at www.haloathon.com.

Viewers can expect to be entertained by not just the gameplay, but also games, competitions, and huge giveaways throughout the event. Haloathon is very focused on making viewer interaction a big part of the fundraiser.

Donations will be made by the viewers through the website, which will go directly to Special Effect. This will contribute towards extending the runtime of the event and qualify the donators for raffles, rewards and other surprise bonuses.

A limited edition, signed and sealed copy of Halo 2 will kick off the run-up to the event this Tuesday at 10pm in the form of an eBay charity auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to Special Effect. This very special collector's item was donated to the team by Vic DeLeon, a level design artist at 343 Industries, and is signed by the Bungie staff who worked on the game, some of whom are now working on Halo 4. The auction will end during Day 2 of the live event going to the highest bidder.
