1 - How do I make my ship go faster? Saying Unfurl Sail doesn't work.
2 - If a galleon decays, is everything in the hold just blinked out of existence? NOTE: it would be kind of cool to instead move the items to a chest and generate an MiB for it.
3 - Can someone explain the exact differences in abilities for the different access roles (Passenger, Crew, Captain)?
4 - Is there a way to walk something (hireling, non-bonded animal) on your ship, now that there's no gangplank?
5 - I havent done a ship battle yet. Will my pallyarcher fire normally as I'm working the cannon?
6 - Can I mark a rune on the boat so all my characters can use it? Will that work?
7 - How long do matches last?
8 - Can we cook crabs and lobsters?
9 - When someone conquers your ship and boards, can he get the stuff in the hold?
10 - Do incendiary spells harm ships? If not, why?

1 - How do I make my ship go faster? Saying Unfurl Sail doesn't work.

In mouse mode, cursor distance from the ship affects this.. a little. You also have basic voice commands. Slow forward, forward, etc.

2 - If a galleon decays, is everything in the hold just blinked out of existence? NOTE: it would be kind of cool to instead move the items to a chest and generate an MiB for it.

Ships don't decay, per se. They pop into a dry docked state if their hold is empty after 7 days, or at least they did in the beta. Not going to rish losing a ship to test this :p

3 - Can someone explain the exact differences in abilities for the different access roles (Passenger, Crew, Captain)?

Those are a tad self explanitory, really.

4 - Is there a way to walk something (hireling, non-bonded animal) on your ship, now that there's no gangplank?

Dunno, haven't tried. They may ust port with you when you using the mooring rope. Or not.
5 - I havent done a ship battle yet. Will my pallyarcher fire normally as I'm working the cannon?

Yes.

6 - Can I mark a rune on the boat so all my characters can use it? Will that work?

Yes, but a character has to be accessed to the boat first to be able to recall or gate onto it.

7 - How long do matches last?

This appears to be somewhat random, but at least an hour or two.

8 - Can we cook crabs and lobsters?

No, sadly.

9 - When someone conquers your ship and boards, can he get the stuff in the hold?

Only in Fel, or if you have the hold set to public access.

10 - Do incendiary spells harm ships? If not, why?

No. Because there are cannons?

I've only done 1 ship battle in which I fired approx 70 canon shots.
1 match was needed for all 70 shots which makes NO sense.

11. Why don't we have the option to cast vas flam to ignite cannons or fire field to ignite a row of canons?
How about just using a normal torch to ignite a canon? To simple? Not enough of a gold sinking crafting grind in the name of "fun"?
I can dbl click a candelabra, A lantern and lord knows how many other in game items will ignite or explode with NO match required.

10. -- the primary reason would be someone sitting on a rowboat beside your ship, casting fireball on a script over and over until your ship is damaged enough so he can board. And since we know there are people like that, we know this should not happen.

11. hm, yeah, let's allow huge gouts of flame to fly all over your wooden ship. I think anyone that attempts that should have the entire ship burn and sink. Guess they wouldn't do that again, hm?

Fire damaging ships would reflect realism. Perhaps Ive just been served by your post. I do not know whether fire spells actually Damage ships or not. I suspect they do not which makes your post worthless. While I have fire fielded enemy ships to damage the npc's I must now find out if a ship will take damage from a spell.
The vessel has resisted your spell.
How do you find out how much resist a ship has?
Ignore the message and keep casting!

passenger can only enter your ship for travels

crew is same as passenger but additional they can operate cannons and sail the ship

officer same as crew but additional has access to ship hold

captain ..... can do all, same as officer and additional dry dock, get quests etc etc.

Re: #4. Non-bonded pets will board your ship when you board it. I tamed a mongbat, er.. I mean parrot, to test it. Non-bonded pets of course, will not recall to your ship with you, as is normal.

Another question...

If I don't have the High Seas Expansion yet can I be shot at with cannons if i'm cruising around in my normal ship? Either in Fel or Tram?

Thanks!

A couple of corrections:

3 - Can someone explain the exact differences in abilities for the different access roles (Passenger, Crew, Captain)?

Those are a tad self explanitory, really.
PASSENGER: Boarding
CREW: Operating cannons, Piloting the ship
OFFICER: Installing/dismantling cannons, Accessing the cargo hold
CAPTAIN: Dry docking the ship, Changing permissions

6 - Can I mark a rune on the boat so all my characters can use it? Will that work?

Yes, but a character has to be accessed to the boat first to be able to recall or gate onto it.
All characters of the ship owner's account automatically have full access to the boat.

9 - When someone conquers your ship and boards, can he get the stuff in the hold?

Only in Fel, or if you have the hold set to public access.
To my knowledge, if a ship is immobilized, anyone can access it. In Trammel, victors will get the PASSENGER access right, in Felucca they will get the OFFICER access right.

Realism?

1. What you think of a match and what the historical representation in the game is totally different. Guns of all sorts used to have to be ignited via a match which was very slow burning piece of chemically treated cord. There was no open flame. If you have ever captured any NPC ship in the game, you are probably set for the next month with matches.

11. Maybe your Vas Flam aim is not accurate enough to hit a touch hole from 10 feet, or its too strong which knocks your cannon about. Maybe casting firefield on your own wooden decked ship is a recipe for disaster?

It is not a good idea to have open flame around mass quantities of black powder. Torches were not used to ignite canons because of the danger and the possibility that the charge would vent the out of the touch hole, extinguishing the flame and blowing pieces of burning torch all about. Even a match cord would sometimes be extinguished, so both ends were lit so one could be used to reignite the other. You want one of your cannons to blow up without having to use a match? Try loading a charge into it while it is dirty.
