Template advice?

I haven't done a ton of PvM but it's something I'm looking to get into more. I'm trying to build a template that will be devistating in Champ spawns, Doom Gauntlet, Peerless, Travesty and just your basic dungeon crawls...
The templates I've been considering are the following:

Template Idea #1
120 Archery
115 Tactics
115 Anatomy
115 Bushido
105 Chivalry
90 Healing
60 Med

Template Idea #2
120 Archery
115 Tactics
100 Chivalry (Not sure how well this works with Necro because of Negative Karma)
105 Necro
110 Spirit Speak
110 Spellweaving
60 Med

Both templates I'm thinking of being an elf for the +20 Mana which I'm obviously gonna need and try to Max HCI/DCI, DI and build MR and LMC on a the suit as well. I was also thinking it would be good to run with Protection and make sure the suit I built recovered the resists lost to stick around all 70's.
I'd appreciate any advice on template, tactics and/or equipment for PvMing... Thanks!!

I would replace spellweaving on #2 with bushido. You have chiv for healing and curing poison and you can do your forms with necro for mana regen and life leech and you also have Spirit Speak for more healing. Spellweaving would be extremely mana intensive on your template and would be a real problem to use effectively. (IMHO of course!)

Template 1 I would drop Anatomy down to 110 and take Bushido t0 120. The difference in the amount of damage increase favors Bushido. I'd also drop Chiv down to 85 and put the rest into Med. You'll need the additional mana, and you can cast every spell except for Noble Sacrifice at 85.

Template 2 I'd agree with GFY and drop Spellweaving for Bushido. With both Necro and Chiv, SW would be too mana intensive. Again, drop Chiv down to 85 and put the rest into Med, and 120 Bushido.

Here's what I'm running, and I got the template from what I consider to be a sucessful pvpr, spawner on my shard...
120 Anatomy
120 Healing
120 Archery
120 Bushido
120 Tactics
80 Chivalry
40 Focus....

With New haven the way it is, you can train any old skill up to 40, so if you want to pvm, train up necro and go vamp form with jewels, or train up focus for the regen.

Nice bows and armor are a must, dismounting and balanced bows for drinking pots when needed, and spamming Lightning strike...

I've been doing the invasion with this character and love it.

This template you're running is assuming the OP has been playing 4+ years. I'd still up the Chiv to 85 for PvM purposes due solely to the number of failures it takes to get EoO cast in the middle of fighting a Para Balron. Can mean the difference between life and death in a lot of cases, especially since Archers are even more heavily dependant on leech amounts with the recent nerfs.

One thing that was brought up to think about, and would require quite a bit of testing is that turning elf does give an instant 20 mana increase, but a human has a natural 20 in both Focus and Med. So....which gives the upper hand?

I think I've decided to do my template like this...

120 Archery
110 Tactics
115 Bushido (Till I can afford a 120)
105 Necromancy
110 Spirit Speak
90 Chivalry (I'll move 5 points from this to bushido when I get a +20 scroll)
70 Meditation

I appreciate everyones help and any continued advice would be great! Especially tactics against things like dark fathers and some of the bigger baddies.

Looks like a nice template. You might miss resist spells however.

Yeah I was considering that, but I'm gonna test this out first and see how it does. Right now I'm debating on stats what I'm thinking so far is: 90 Str, 110 Dex, and 55 Int and try to build Dex through a few items if I can. I'm open to suggestions or ideas however...

Resist is kind of a toss up right now. I'm thinking about dropping it myself, as for PvM, it's not quite as useful as it is for PvP. I've already dropped it from my dexxer. Once I get his swords worked up a bit more, I'm going to test the trapped box/orange petals/cure pots thing out and see how I do. Hell, I've got GM resist on my archer and Imps poison him left and right. With Chiv, Pots, and Petals, poison shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Connor do you have any advice for base stats? I have 255 total and right now I have it setup with 90 str, 110 dex, and 55 int. (The character is an elf)

Thanks!!

55 int?

I wouldn't go that high unless I had mage or necro in the template. You really want to push your dex as high as possible. 150 is max but unless you have mega dex bonus from items you should got 125 naturally.

You want your dex as high as possible for max swing speed and stamina. You also get 3 second heals at 150 dex. Very good indeed!

I was thinking about that template as well however the lack of resist really bothered me. I use my archer for pvp and pvm so lack of resist is a concern.

On that note what do you do to counter not having resist?

Well my template has Necro and Chiv... So it requires a higher mana pool. While I don't plan to use this template for PvP, though in theory it should hold it's own well in PvP, the temple is built for PvM. To counter act the lack of resist however, I have Vamp form for poisons and also orange petals and chiv at 85 can cure most poisons up to greater poison without much of an issue. Trapped box for para and Chiv can be used to remove other curses when necessary. But trying to figure out the base stats is tough because I know I need a lot of Dex for max swing speed, but I also am going to need a lot of Mana. I have 70 Med built into the template and I also am building an MR suit. But any further advice on stats is appreciated.

Thanks!

Go with 125 real stat points in Dexterity. You can then look for jewels with stat bonuses, along with the Crimson Cincture, Mace & Shield Glasses (Str 10 & Dex 5 + the HLD 30%, WOW I love em), and armor with Stamina, Mana and HP increases on them. I currently have this in real stats:

Str 94
Dex 125
Int 36

With my gear, which I'll be redoing now that I've got all of the cursed Doom arties, with plenty of backups just in case (although in PvM it's rare that you can't get to your corpse, especially when using Honor), my current modified stats are:

Str 112 HP 116
Dex 149 Stam 153
Int 51 Mana 81

I use the Rune Beetle Carapace (2-5mil) as the central piece of the suit, along with either Stormgrip (5mil) or Gauntlets of Nobility (which is cheap even for non cursed ones. I think I paid 2.5mil for a pair for my swordsman). It has MR 3, along with LMC 15% and mana increase of 10. You really can't beat the RBC as a chest piece for any character that uses mana.

Now, I will admit that I've got a bracelet with 20 stat points on it, along with Resist Magic of 12% (I use 10 skill points in Bushido, keeping Resist at 90 on my template) and a DI of 21%, so this bracelet is very high end, and also use the Ring of the Vile for the Dex increase, the HCI when I run low on mana and can't use Lightning Strike, and the Stamina Regen for when I'm low on mana and can't cast Divine Fury.

"On that note what do you do to counter not having resist? "

I'm keeping Resist on my archer because he has the room, however I did just drop it on my swordsman. I'm going to be using Greater Cure pots, Orange Petals and Chiv for poison, and a trapped box (facing east/west for those that don't know) for paralyze. I haven't tried it out yet myself, but a couple of the people I hunt with have done this now and have been very successful with it.

You can use a mage with 0 eval and cast trap spell on pouches with the same results. Make sure the mage trapping the boxes has 0 eval or you'll probably kill yourself when you use em!

How much damage do the pouches do? The box I'm currently using is doing 19, and was made by a low level tinker. Ouch! That's some pinprick!

I have a fisherman/chef with about 60 magery and 0 eval. He makes the trapped pouches for me and I only take about a max of 5 points of damage.

Magery trapped pouches are only good for one use, right?

Just checking.. cause I honestly don't know.
