im getting 'could not create directory' problems and losing all macros at log of etc. whats the cure?

my dad gets this every now and then, and from what i can tell the only way to cure it, is if possible to log into another account.
Either that or wait and it usually sorts itself out eventually.
It looks like for some reason at times (on some machines) the files go "read only" which causes the problem, and even copying them back (and changing them back from read only) doesn't work as they keep turning back to "read only".

i had this yesterday on second account. logging into first account, then back into second did the trick
