Targeting in 2D

I've been having a problem with targetting in 2D. While in a dungeon, let's say the lizardmen...I'll be faced with a group of three lizardmen...right in front of my character. However, for some stupid %$#@!&$ reason, my character will start shooting (archery) the lizardman WAY in the back off the dang screen while the other three bum-rush me and start hitting my poor archer butt. The funny annoying WTF part is that even in War mode while getting beat on, my character NEVER auto-targets the very aggressive and psychotically blood induced raging homocidal growling lizardfolk that just happen to be EATING ME!

Of course, I'm not completely dumb...as soon as the WTF Targeting aimsfor the lizardman in the back, I start double clicking on the ones in front of me...but with the speed those buggers run at, it takes sometimes four or five double clicks to get them targeted, even while holding Ctrl-Shift...and by that time, hey look, my arm is a stump! Yay!

Is there a setting or a macro or something that will target the CLOSEST bad guy? You know...logical targeting? :coco:

If you were Swords and Paladin I'd suggest Whirlwind attack special ... damages all around you once it goes off.

Drag off the healthbar of the critters. Just click them and drag ... the HP bar will appear. You can dock several together and target the healthbar for the one you want.

There is a targeting system in the 2D client ... I think it's toggle on via macros and has several "target ..." options to choose from. How workable it is I can't tell you - never used it.

Tried to get the health bars, but honestly that is just about as hard as double clicking sometimes. I'll take a look at the macros...maybe there is one that will help.

The problem is that your auto defending. One of the problems with an archer in a large pvm battle field is that you attack monsters that attack you. You'll have to double click the target you want in order to keep firing at it. Pull up the health bar of your target and if your attacked by something else just attack the original target again.

See, thats the part that gets me...I'm auto-defending against the WRONG targets! I can have things beating the crap out of me, and I will "auto-defend" against something off the screen...that doesn't have ranged attacks, so it isn't even really a threat yet.

Ya it's a pain for archers. The way it works when ever your attacked you get to auto defend. The problem is if your fighting X monster and Y monster attacks you'll auto defend Y switching your target.

If I remember right there is a auto defend off/on switch on one of your character gumps. Switch to off and you should be all set. Just be ready to attack if you turn it off.

You can also walk around disarmed so you don't fire off a shot at a random monster before you have a chance to honor him
