Taming Needed for Ridgebacks

Everything I have been able to find on Stratics and UO Guide says that you can tame ridgebacks at 83.1. I am a little over that now and have been taming for over 3 hours without one successful tame. Im not talking about gains. I mean that for 3 hours I have followed the same ridgeback around trying to tame it and never succeeded. Any advice? Has the required level change or am I just having Legendary bad luck here?

Some times people will tame a mob and release it with the expectations that another will tame it .... up to five times.

Each time this occurs, the to tame value is increased.

When a mob has proven tough to tame and I am there to skill up, I just kill it and move on.

As a side note, if you are below 85, I would just go on over to the Jeholm(sp) Bull Pits and tame the bulls.

Kill a ridgeback and ensure you're trying with a fresh one. Remember too, if you're near the minimum taming skill, it will mean you fail a lot. And sometimes even with the appropriate skill you find a pet which is more stubborn. Try other ridgebacks if one isn't taming after 10 or so attempts. If that doesn't work, Healer's Grove great harts are a good quick way to raise your skill at that level. Tame harts then kill them on the healers and you should have a better chance at taming with some gains under your belt.

Thanks for advice. I have gone and raised my taming to 85.1 and killed both ridgebacks. Working on taming a fresh one now and still no luck. Any other advice?

Other than the obvious option of equiping some taming jewels or training some more, I'm not sure what else to suggest. Having never tried taming a ridgie at that level, I'm not sure at what point it would be straightforward to tame one.

The other option if you just want a ridgeback, is to ask a tamer to tame and transfer to you.

Sorry I can't be of more help,it's ages since I tried taming ridgies at that level to know what skill would get you a successful tame in less than 3 hours :(

I went to the Ridgeback Pool when I was in the low 100's.

I am assuming your real Taming skill is 85.1. If not then changing the +Taming to keep you in the 80 to 85 range and doing the bulls work.

If you are 85.1 Real, then as Wenchy mentioned, then get Jewelry to up your skill.

Not that it is affecting anything but what is (well shouldn't) your lore?

Well, 83.1 is the minimum taming requirement, meaning you have 0.2% of taming it. At 85.1 skill, you have 4% chance of taming one, which means it'll take a really long time. You'll need a lot of patience and just hope the RNG God likes you.

If you want to take less time to tame a ridgeback, do something to get your taming up, either by jewelry or training your skill up.
