My current build is this, base skills, without taking into account my items.

104 taming, 100 vet, 96 resist, 100 eval int, 100 magery, 100 med, 100 animal lore.

The magery side of things doesn't seem to useful, and it's using up 300 points, if I could replace it with something more useful then I could also drop the resist so i'd have 400 points to spend elsewhere.

I want to have a good shot at getting artis in dungeon doom and being able to kill the toughest stuff in the game, what could I replace the magery skills in my tamer build with to achieve that? I was thinking archery skills, like tactics, anatomy, archery and healing, but what about the new skills? Bushido? Chiv? I hear good things about those skills but don't really know much about them so I don't know if I should drop the healing and take Bushido aswell or what.

One last thing to bear in my mind, I have a friend who is also a tamer/mage and I hunt with her a lot, this means my template can afford to be different than a normal soloer when you take into account I will often be duoing with her.

The main issue I think is damage, if I can lose the magery related skills and resist from this build to hugely increase my damage, could someone please help me figure out a template for it.

From what I've seen, most people running tamer/archer templates are using it for pvp.
To deal interesting damages versus monsters this way, you'll have to use some chivalry (for "Enemy of one" and "Consecrate weapon" 85 points are enough), and maybe add some bushido (the more the better) to hit more often and have a better chance at criticals.

Another popular template is the disco tamer : 120 music/120 disco, using discordance will lower your target's stats, making it much easyer to kill. In this case you'll have to keep some magery to travel around.

Hi, i am using this template currently.
And its quite fun, he is even pretty good in the most peerless fights, with a mare/beetle combo.

120 Archery
100 Tactics
100 Taming
110 Lore
100 Taming
110 Vet
70 Chival

you have 110 points free, so you can go either with meditation and good dmg/slayer bows or you can switch in 110 anatomy and go for mana leech weapons.
Both works fine. As i am planning to go more often to the Dark Father, i am currently running 110 meditation and use there the Mischief Maker and the Night Reaper for the demon/undead slayer.

But you must consider, that youre then very item dependant. And you will sacrifice youre luck suit for youre dmg suite.

You could drop Eval and just use Magery for healing in tough peerless fights and the vital invis.

But i like the archer template!

best regards

Edit:
Disco Tamers are pretty good imho, but raising discordance sucks so bad

Carful here. I know when you change off your magery for "something better" you will miss your invisi spell alot. I run a warrior tamer and love it but for 1st few weeks I sorly missed that spell. So be carfull that you dont end up hating it and carry some invisi pots!

One of the other problems is you cannot gate anymore, which makes taming new pets tricky.

I've came up with two builds but i'm not sure which is better.

100 taming
100 animal lore
110 vet
120 archery
100 tactics
100 anatomy
70 chiv

Or

100 taming
100 animal lore
110 vet
120 archery
100 tactics
100 bushido
70 chiv

2nd one needs a lot of mana but can that be made up for with lots of + mana regen items? Also no anatomy means 30% less damage however with bushido i'll be able to use lightning strike and perfection, i've never even tried bushido or chiv before so i don't know which of these will work best.

It really depends what you want to do with your tamer template. I'll give 3 templates that I know pretty well. (one is mine and the others are friends)

I run a tamer mage. I like the mage part for offensive spells and extra healing when I'm fighting a tuffer monster. (succubuss paragons are a B*TCH) I can tame just about anything using lead taming or para taming.

My friend has a Bard tamer and switches out peace and disco. He uses peace for taming (this works very well) and disco for hunting. (swapping out each with soul stones) The disco is very effective for lowering monsters defense making them easier for your pets to kill.

Friend #2 has a Mage tamer also but uses him more for pvp. He is 120 mage, eval, med, resist, taming, lore. He has very good control and with his full mage skills and pets makes for a deadly combination.

Hey mookin1......keep your magery and get yourself a nice mage wep bow then!!
Best of both worlds!!

Taming
Lore
Vet
Magery (archery)
Tacs
Chiv
Med

This works great for me, and can rock peerless even when pet is down with the flu!!!

i am also building a tamer/archer, first time tamer and i thought poisoning was hard to raise

120 archery (100 real, hunters)
120 taming (85 real, ring/braclet/tali)
110 lore
110 vet
110 tact
110 bush
80 chiv

Very item dependant, but so far so good...taming only 79 real still gaining...any suggesetions?

I find a bushido archer tamer rocks
100 archery(headdress)
taming (110 with items is good)
100-110 lore
100 vet
tactics
chiv

Dont need a luck suit/ well can put some luck on suit but honoring the monster can give you up to 1000 luck at 10th level perfection. Once you kill a monster with it honored you gain back mana and hp (mana leech still needed)
65-80 chiv is good for the EoO/Dispel Evil/Concwep/divine fury

bushido of course - Lightning strike/Counter attack etc
get a suit with a good combo of LMC/mana increase / regen/stam inc
stats like 90-100 110-120 and 20-30

I thought that if you attack a creature with honor you had to solo it. That you couldn't attack it with pets or summons.

My Archer is an Archer/Tamer/Samurai/Paladine and he does fairly well, but is more for "show" than to be effective. I chose Taming so he could ride a Reptalon, but sinse the Reptalon in KR no longer fly I might drop his 110 Taming and 100 Lore completly. An Archer/Discord looks like it's highly effective, but after training Discord on my Tamer I won't bother with that tediouse skill for a long time...
