It's obtained by planting a green thorn in ice and then taming the resulting ice serpent. Sorry, the only reason it's rare is not many people do it.

Used a pack of them to mess with friends. When you have multiple ones they all appear as just one. Train them up all the way and they can wreak havoc poisioning folks, add a lil necro to it and you can hit lethal pois. Fun to mess with friends but not too swift in a battle.
