"This is not at all the sort of thing I saw happening Nemira, and I am sure that this will all come to a bad end."
Sitting on the steps of Connemara Aedon regarded the large swallow-tailed Kite who was casually preening her feathers. He often had talks with Nemira when things were troubling him. And more times than not, the bird had saved him from a few misstep which could have ended in a great deal of pain.
Tonight though, Aedon knew Nemira would have no answers for him, and that if she had any opinions on the matter, would most likely keep them to herself. But still, he took some small comfort in using the bird as a sort of sounding board for things which troubled him. Tonight, it was the meeting between Gillian, Aedon, Thom and the Hand.
He had hoped up unto the last minute another answer could be found. That perhaps Blackthorn would send the aid needed to save one of the towns which had fallen under his rule. But though a couple of new guards showed up to guard the Abbey, the town of Yew at large was really left to its own devices. This of course also included Aegis.
He stood watching tonight as Gillian signed an agreement that named Mikael D’Amavir Protector of Yew. The sight of the Hand standing there gloating over their victory sickened him, and made him want to draw his blade and charge them to whatever end. But this night was for Yews Governor to make what decisions she had and follow through. There would be time later, and plenty of it for regrets and thoughts of what could be done next.
“You should have seen her though Nemira.” Aedon said turning to the large bird. “She stood tall and proud and stated in her own words what she was offering and what was not on the table. Tonight, Gillian looked and acted as Yew’s Governor. I think time will tell where this deal she has wrought will lead us, but bloody hell at least she is leading. And that is the one thing I wanted to see her do. “
Standing, he walked down a few stairs and stared into the west. He knew that someplace out there, beyond the sea the life he had was moving on. With the state of things in Yew, and his disdain for the idea of sitting in the Rest with the Protector of Yew he thought how nice it would be to head home. There was little now to hold him to these lands, and he missed Jan and Kylee. Looking over to Nemira he asked;
“What do you think old girl, is it time that I took wing and returned home?”
Spreading wide her wings the bird took to the sky and started flying in a huge circle, her wings whipping up winds and sending thistly swirling as a hurricane might. Aedon watched her for a moment, and remembered the many times he had watched Nemira open pathways for him. He was excited at the prospect of being home again, and yet a part of him felt a deep sense of regret and loss.
